Coach Conor says Cambodian women footballers deserve encouragement after Hong Kong draw
PHNOM PENH: Cambodia women's national team head coach Conor Nestor expressed his satisfaction with the 1–1 draw against Hong Kong.
Following the result, which secured a point in their group opener, Conor emphasised that his players deserve encouragement for their efforts as they head into the next two matches in Group G.
In the AFC Women's Asian Cup Australia 2026 qualifiers (Group G) opener, match held at the National Olympic Stadium on Sunday (June 29), the Cambodian team struggled, particularly in defence. Communication issues between the defenders and the goalkeeper allowed Hong Kong several chances in front of goal.
During one of these plays, Cambodian defender Vibol Serysitha (#13) attempted to clear a shot from Hong Kong forward Leung Hong Kiu Anke but ended up fouling her in the penalty area. The referee awarded a penalty, which Leung (#22) successfully converted in the 31st minute to give Hong Kong a 1–0 lead.
However, the Cambodian team showed resilience and improved significantly in the second half. The stadium erupted with cheers when forward Voeun Sothan scored an equalising goal in the 81st minute, securing a 1–1 result.
'I was really excited to score and help the team equalise. Even though the other team is strong, we played well together today and showed strong determination,' said Sothan.

She also called on Cambodian fans to attend the next two matches in greater numbers to support the team, noting that Sunday's game had a relatively small crowd.
Nestor observed that the Cambodian women played well in the second half and urged the public to give them more encouragement to help boost their morale ahead of their upcoming matches against the Philippines and Saudi Arabia.
'The Hong Kong team has a lot of experience in international competition, so I was pleased to hear the final whistle with a 1–1 result. It was the first time our players have competed at this level,' he told a post-match press conference.
'If our team plays like we did in the second half for the next two games, I believe we can reach a strong position in this group stage of the AFC Women's Asian Cup qualifiers. Our players deserve to be encouraged for their hard work,' added the Irish coach.
Hong Kong head coach Jose Ricardo Rambo expressed disappointment that his team couldn't hold on to their 1–0 lead until the end. He acknowledged that Cambodia's pressure in the second half forced the momentum to shift.
'After scoring in the first half, our level dropped a bit. We started the second half quite well, but Cambodia pressured us hard, which made it difficult to play and maintain possession. We tried to change tactics, but it wasn't enough to regain control,' he said.
Also on Sunday at the Olympic Stadium, the Philippines women's team defeated Saudi Arabia 3–0, taking the top spot in Group G, for now. Cambodia will next face the Philippines on July 2, while Saudi Arabia will play Hong Kong. - The Phnom Penh/ANN

Cricket-David blasts fastest T20 ton for Australia in series win over West Indies
(Reuters) -Middle order batter Tim David smashed the fastest Twenty20 International century for Australia as they sealed a six-wicket victory over the West Indies in the third T20 on Friday to take an unassailable 3-0 lead in their five-match series. David hit 11 sixes and six fours to finish on unbeaten 102 off 37 deliveries, with Australia crushing the hosts with 23 balls to spare at Warner Park in Basseterre, Saint Kitts. "I was just having a great time in the middle playing for Australia...I didn't think I would get the opportunity to get a hundred for Australia so I'm stoked," David said. "The pitch was good and small boundaries so you have to back your strengths. Warner Park is a great place to bat and it was great to have experience here in the CPL (Caribbean Premier League). "I've spent a lot of time working on power hitting but now I'm working on my shot selection." Put into bat after Australia won the toss, West Indies got off to a solid start helped by a 125-run opening stand between Shai Hope and Brandon King. Mitchell Owen provided Australia with a much-needed breakthrough when he took out King, who had holed out to deep forward square, while Shimron Hetmyer (9), Sherfane Rutherford (12) and Rovman Powell (9) were all removed cheaply. West Indies' total was boosted by a fine unbeaten 102 off 57 balls by captain Hope as they posted 214-4. Australia's reply initially stuttered as they found themselves 61-3 in 5.5 overs, but David scored a sparkling ton to eclipse Josh Inglis' record (43 balls) for fastest T20 century for Australia by six deliveries. "I don't think we had enough runs on the board. On a pitch like that with the dimension of the ground, we know it's going to be hard to defend. I think we fell a few runs short and with the ball we needed to pick up more wickets," Hope said. "We're very powerful strikers but we have to give credit to the Australian bowlers, they've bowled very well in the death overs." Australia had won the first T20 by three wickets and second by eight wickets. "We've played well so far in the series. We've executed well with the ball and there are no words for that innings from Tim David. We're giving guys opportunities in different roles. As a group we've played really good cricket," Australia captain Mitchell Marsh said. (Reporting by Pearl Josephine Nazare in Goa; Editing by Jacqueline Wong)

ASTAF: Hatyai Safe for Thai King's Cup Sepaktakraw
THE 38th Thai King's Cup in Hatyai remains safe, peaceful and fully under control, the Asian Sepaktakraw Federation (ASTAF) said today following concerns over regional security. ASTAF president Datuk Abdul Halim Kader said the situation in Hatyai is unaffected by the recent military skirmishes near the Thailand-Cambodia border, which is more than 900 kilometres from the tournament venue. 'We encourage all participants, especially Malaysian and Singaporean fans, to proceed with their travel plans confidently and join us in rallying behind Team Malaysia and Team Singapore as they compete at the pinnacle of international sepak takraw,' he said in an advisory today. Abdul Halim said Thai authorities have also reinforced security at all official accommodations and the tournament venue at the Hatyai Hall inside Central Hatyai Shopping Mall, with additional personnel deployed. As part of precautionary measures, he also said all 18 participating national teams have been advised to remain vigilant and return to their official hotels immediately following each match to ensure smooth tournament operations and safety. It was reported yesterday that a Thai civilian was killed and three others, including a five-year-old child, were seriously injured following a clash between Thai and Cambodian troops in a disputed border area early Thursday. The two Southeast Asian neighbours have been disputing an 817-km undemarcated border for decades, which continues to sour diplomatic ties- BERNAMA
