Thais romp as Wirunya fires 3 goals
Thailand continued their bid to qualify for the AFC Women's Asian Cup finals with a 7-0 demolition of Iraq in their second Group B qualifying tie at Chiang Mai's 700th Anniversary Stadium on Sunday night. The win took Thailand to six points, level with India, who lead on goal difference, and the hosts will aim for a third win when they face Mongolia on Wednesday while Iraq play India. The Chaba Kaew put on a better show than the first match and in the 13th minute, Pichayatida Manowang set Wirunya Kwenkasikum free to score the opener. Pichayatida then doubled Thailand's lead in the 36th minute with a cool finish into the top left corner before Panittha Jeeratanapavibul struck from distance in the first-half stoppage time. Thailand got their fourth goal from Karnajanathat Phomsri, who struck in the 58th minute from a counter-attacking move, before she netted again with a 65th-minute penalty. Wirunya increased her personal tally in the 77th minute for a 6-0 lead, before completing her hat-trick with a fine header to cap an impressive outing for Thailand in the dying moments of the match. Thailand head coach Futoshi Ikeda praised his players' composure after his team's victory in their second match of the qualifiers for Australia 2026. "After the first match, we had only two days to recover and prepare again. We focused on helping the players recover physically and get ready for the match," said Ikeda. "Everyone performed well. There were quite a few changes, but we stuck to our playing style."

Coach Crispin Looks To Light The 'Fire' As AFC Women's Asian Cup Race Heats Up
Last Updated: India and Thailand lead Group B in the AFC Women's Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers with six points each but ahead on goal difference. India face Iraq next, while Thailand play Mongolia. AFC Women's Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers Group B has essentially become a two-horse race after Matchday 2. India and Thailand are both tied with six points, with the Blue Tigresses leading the table on goal difference. Only the group winners will advance to Australia. The teams India has defeated so far – Timor-Leste (4-0) and Mongolia (13-0) – have been eliminated. Iraq, which lost 0-7 to Thailand, is on the verge of elimination. They must defeat India on July 2 to stay in contention. If Iraq fails, the match between India and Thailand on July 5 will serve as a direct play-off for qualification. Until then, accumulating as many points and goals as possible is crucial. Currently, India boasts a +17 goal difference, while Thailand stands at +11. On Wednesday, India will face Iraq in the afternoon, followed by Thailand's game against Mongolia in the evening. After the win over Timor-Leste on Sunday, India coach Crispin Chettri expressed satisfaction with the three points but noted concerns about the team's slow start in the first half. 'Victory is always sweet, but I know we could have done better in the first half. We need to be more focused from the very start of the game, and not just play well in the second half. Overall, though, I'm happy with the result," he said. Of India's 17 goals so far, 12 have been scored in the second half. Despite early goals in their matches (8th minute against Mongolia and 12th minute against Timor-Leste), the team has struggled to find its rhythm in the first 45 minutes. 'The sooner you score, the sooner you settle down. I think we're taking too long to settle. If you look at our first halves, we're not just missing chances, we're somewhat slower in our reactions and follow-ups. So, that's definitely something we need to work on," said Chettri. How Can India Win The Group? On a positive note, the substitutes have been effective. Lynda Kom Serto, Malavika P., and Priyadharshini Selladurai have all scored after coming off the bench. Chettri highlighted the fourth goal against Timor-Leste, crafted by substitutes Lynda and Grace Dangmei. Grace created the opportunity with a run past her marker, setting up Lynda for an easy finish. This marked Lynda's first official goal for India. 'We're always trying different combinations. Last time, we tried Grace and Pyari. This time, we went with Anju and Pyari at the start, and then again with Lynda and Grace in the second half. We need to be prepared for every situation. I think the substitutes did pretty well. Anju was coming back from injury, and she managed to play 80 minutes, so that's a good sign," said Chettri. Manisha Kalyan also played her first match of the Qualifiers, scoring two goals. This was her first start for India since February, following a break after the season with Greek club PAOK. 'Manisha scored two beautiful goals," said Chettri. 'But I still think she can do better. She's coming back after a break. She had a long season in Europe. In Greece, she plays in a different role — as a full-back — and here she plays on the wing. She's still adjusting. But overall, I think she did quite well today." After scoring her 12th and 13th goals for the national team, Manisha stated that scoring for the team boosts confidence for the remaining games. She affirmed their commitment to qualifying for the Asian Cup. Despite India's successful run, the day was marred by an injury to Soumya Guguloth, the current AIFF Women's Player of the Year. She sustained a nasal bone fracture after a collision with Timor-Leste's Idalia Alves Belo and underwent successful surgery. 'Soumya is definitely a big loss. It's an unfortunate blow for everyone here. I wish she could be back as soon as possible. For now, I feel we do have enough bench strength to cope with her absence," said Chettri.

Coach Conor says Cambodian women footballers deserve encouragement after Hong Kong draw
Player number 23, Voeun Sothan (centre), celebrating her goal with teammates. She helped the Cambodia women's team draw 1–1 with Hong Kong on June 29. - CPL PHNOM PENH: Cambodia women's national team head coach Conor Nestor expressed his satisfaction with the 1–1 draw against Hong Kong. Following the result, which secured a point in their group opener, Conor emphasised that his players deserve encouragement for their efforts as they head into the next two matches in Group G. In the AFC Women's Asian Cup Australia 2026 qualifiers (Group G) opener, match held at the National Olympic Stadium on Sunday (June 29), the Cambodian team struggled, particularly in defence. Communication issues between the defenders and the goalkeeper allowed Hong Kong several chances in front of goal. During one of these plays, Cambodian defender Vibol Serysitha (#13) attempted to clear a shot from Hong Kong forward Leung Hong Kiu Anke but ended up fouling her in the penalty area. The referee awarded a penalty, which Leung (#22) successfully converted in the 31st minute to give Hong Kong a 1–0 lead. However, the Cambodian team showed resilience and improved significantly in the second half. The stadium erupted with cheers when forward Voeun Sothan scored an equalising goal in the 81st minute, securing a 1–1 result. 'I was really excited to score and help the team equalise. Even though the other team is strong, we played well together today and showed strong determination,' said Sothan. Action from the Group G opening match of the AFC Women's Asian Cup Australia 2026 qualifiers. CPL She also called on Cambodian fans to attend the next two matches in greater numbers to support the team, noting that Sunday's game had a relatively small crowd. Nestor observed that the Cambodian women played well in the second half and urged the public to give them more encouragement to help boost their morale ahead of their upcoming matches against the Philippines and Saudi Arabia. 'The Hong Kong team has a lot of experience in international competition, so I was pleased to hear the final whistle with a 1–1 result. It was the first time our players have competed at this level,' he told a post-match press conference. 'If our team plays like we did in the second half for the next two games, I believe we can reach a strong position in this group stage of the AFC Women's Asian Cup qualifiers. Our players deserve to be encouraged for their hard work,' added the Irish coach. Hong Kong head coach Jose Ricardo Rambo expressed disappointment that his team couldn't hold on to their 1–0 lead until the end. He acknowledged that Cambodia's pressure in the second half forced the momentum to shift. 'After scoring in the first half, our level dropped a bit. We started the second half quite well, but Cambodia pressured us hard, which made it difficult to play and maintain possession. We tried to change tactics, but it wasn't enough to regain control,' he said. Also on Sunday at the Olympic Stadium, the Philippines women's team defeated Saudi Arabia 3–0, taking the top spot in Group G, for now. Cambodia will next face the Philippines on July 2, while Saudi Arabia will play Hong Kong. - The Phnom Penh/ANN
