It had been expected to go for £7,500 at auction — but there was worldwide interest as it was the first time such an item had come up for sale.
The bidding war meant it was bought for nearly ten times the estimate at Hake's in the US.
With fees, the buyer had to pay nearly £85,000 for the display, with stickers and a coupon.
It set a world auction record for any action figure shop display.

A Hake's spokesperson said: "This was one of the most sought-after Star Wars display pieces and the first time this display had ever been offered at auction.
"The store display was not only the top lot in the auction but also set a world auction record for any store display associated with any action figure line.
"Collectors are definitely showing keen interest in point-of-purchase and promotional materials from the earliest days of popular toy franchises."

Edinburgh Fringe star encounters 'serious problem' because of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info An Edinburgh Fringe star has claimed that she's run into a "serious problem" as she prepares to take the stage - and it's all down to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Alison Jackson, an award-winning photographer who's known for her snaps of celebrity lookalikes, including Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, and the Royal Family, is due to put on a show at the legendary arts festival this month. However, it appears that an unusual issue has arisen due to the controversies surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, whose lookalikes were supposed to feature in her upcoming show. In what the Mail's Richard Eden described as a "serious problem, " Alison detailed how she'd been unable to find actors to play Harry and Meghan, and the show is now fast approaching. Yet, it seems there could be two specific reasons why it's proven to be a difficult task, both of which apply to the public's perception of the Duke and Duchess. (Image: Getty Images) Alison told the Mail: "I have a couple of 'Prince Williams' who've come forward and they look quite good, but no 'Meghan' or 'Harry' has turned up." She explained that the lookalikes have a tendency to "relate" to their characters and claimed that nobody wants to play Harry and Meghan as they're viewed as toxic by some. Alison continued: "I think that people don't like Meghan, they don't trust her and they think she's an operator who sucks everything she can out of Harry." She also theorised that Harry's recent BBC interview, in which he claimed his father, King Charles, "won't speak" to him over "this security stuff" (Harry lost a legal battle over his UK security in May), was to blame. Harry has "gone too far", she claims, adding that his so-called digs during interviews at his father King Charles, who is battling cancer, are "beyond the pale". She also said Meghan's lookalikes "disappear" as she becomes "more assertive". (Image: Getty Images) The Duke and Duchess famously shocked the world when they stepped away from royal duties in January 2020 and left the UK for a new life in Montecito, California, with their two children, Archie and Lilibet. In related news that will likely come as a disappointment for royal watchers, recent reports have claimed that Harry and Meghan will again not be joining the Royal Family for Christmas at Sandringham this year. According to the Express US, it will mark the sixth year in a row that they haven't attended. Speaking about the alleged absence, Vanity Fair's Eve Batey warned that people should "prepare for disappointment". Batey said: "For those who hoped that the British Royal Family's difficult year might end with a happy reunion should prepare for disappointment." She explained that the news came from an anonymous source, paraphrasing that they'd claimed the Duke and Duchess had been "intentionally left off" the Sandringham guest list.

Chloe Ayling's undiagnosed condition that ‘explains so much' revealed 8 years after she was kidnapped & put in suitcase

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) CHLOE Ayling's undiagnosed condition has been revealed eight years after she was kidnapped and put in a suitcase. A new BBC documentary that aired last night has shed light on the horrific episode as the British model says people still don't believe her story. Chloe Ayling has been accused by trolls online of staging her own kidnapping, in a horror which she says "never ends". The outlandish events she described in addition to her unemotional retelling of the story sparked questions on whether it was all a publicity stunt. Her heartbreaking documentary - entitled My Unbelievable Kidnapping - poses an interesting new theory. It takes viewers through the terrifying mission to save the model from Herba's clutches, as well as her appearance on Big Brother just a year after being kidnapped. Towards the end of the documentary, she receives a formal diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder which she said explained so much - not just about her reactions during her ordeal but about her life before and since. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition that affects how people communicate, interact with others, and behave. "I had a lot of difficulties with communication,' she explains in the documentary, while poring over childhood pictures. "I'd react in the wrong way. If I was being told off I would smile. I just had the wrong reactions to things. "My mum would come with me on school trips because I wouldn't be able to say what I wanted or express how I was feeling. "For ages I just said I'm not an emotional person, but now I realise that no matter now hard I try, I just can't express emotion." Chilling moment glamour model Chloe Ayling was kidnapped is recreated in first look at show on Big Brother star's ordeal Trolls claimed she lacked emotion after she delivered a statement from her mother's house. She emerged from the house with a smile and dressed in a revealing vest top and tiny pair of shorts that seemed at odds with the seriousness of the situation. Chloe, now 28, has spent years fighting to convince others about what happened. Upon arriving at the "studio" on that day in 2017, she was driven to a remote warehouse in Truin by Lukasz Herba. 9 She was held in a village in Turin Credit: Ray Collins - The Sun 9 Police reconstructed the kidnapping as part of their investigation Credit: Enterprise News and Pictures Herba was a 30-year-old computer programmer from Oldbury, West Midlands, who held Chloe hostage for a week. He was eventually arrested and jailed for his crime. Despite Herba being jailed, the model revealed that she still faces backlash online for speaking out about his crime. The documentary follows Chloe's recovery from the incident, as well as how she dealt with the scrutiny over a photograph of her shown holding her kidnapper's hand in an Italian village. Speaking about how she remained so calm in CCTV footage, Chloe said: "I had to get him on side to be able to get out. "I want to show a victim doesn't have to fit into a typical box to be believed." A TV series dramatising the event was released on the BBC last year, entitled Kidnapped: The Chloe Ayling Story. It depicts how she was held in the farm house for six days, while her kidnapper demanded €300,000 (£265,000) in ransom money. Herba and his brother Michael were eventually arrested though and handed 16-year prison sentences. 9 Chloe was a successful model before the kidnapping Credit: chloeayling97/Instagram 9 Chloe appeared on Big Brother a year after the kidknapping Credit: Rex Features 9 She says the fallout from the kidnapping 'never ends' Credit: Refer to Caption

Men used to stand me up when they saw my 20st body now I'm half my weight without fat jabs and they race to take me out

Find out the best exercises for weight loss SHAPE SHIFTER Men used to stand me up when they saw my 20st body now I'm half my weight without fat jabs and they race to take me out Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A MUM halved her weight without the help of fat jabs and now men are racing to take her out. Laura Taylor was a heavy size 24 before she embarked on her weight loss journey in March 2024, after struggling with her weight since she was a teenager. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 7 Laura Taylor was previously a size 24 Credit: Kennedy News & Media 7 The mum halved her body weight without the help of fat jabs Credit: Kennedy News & Media The mum claims fellas would flee dates because 'they didn't realise' her size, but now blokes try to woo her with drinks. The 35-year-old says the battle with her weight began when she was bullied for being 'fat' and branded 'tree trunk legs' by cruel bullies at high school. As a result, the mum-of-five didn't wear a skirt for decades and was reluctant to leave the house due to her size 24 figure. The self-conscious cleaning business owner would only share pictures of her face, not of her body, on her dating profiles. Laura says when she did meet up for dates, men would sheepishly admit they 'didn't realise how big she was' before slinking off just an hour after meeting her. After trying and failing to lose the weight naturally, Laura underwent a 'life-changing' gastric sleeve operation in Turkey in March 2024. Since then, she has switched her old diet of McDonald's breakfasts, pub lunches, takeaway dinners, and five cans of Coca-Cola per day for protein coffees, fruit and chicken salads. As a result, Laura has shed a whopping 10 stone in 16 months, initially tipping the scales at 20st 1lb and dropping down to 9st 13lbs and a slinky size eight. Following her incredible weight loss, Laura says men now race to the bar to buy her drinks - and she's finally confident enough to share full body images on her dating profile. Laura, from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, said: "When men tell me that I look beautiful and sexy because I've lost all of my weight I do feel it. I look unrecognisable after my 14st weight loss - it's like my partner has brand new girlfriend "When I was really big I used to go on dates and then an hour later they would say that they had to go and then I'd get blocked. "They used to say that they didn't realise how big I was or that my pictures looked different because they couldn't see my body. "I never used to show my body [on my dating profile], I just used to show my face. "I include pictures of my body now. All of my profile pictures are of my full body because I feel more confident in myself now I've lost weight. "I think I look a lot better, but I think I still have the mindset of when I was fat. "I go out and I've got men coming up to me asking to buy me a drink and I'm like 'what do you see in me really?' Sometimes it's quite hard to take in." Problems with Laura's weight first began when she received cruel comments from bullies at high school. Laura said: "I've had an issue with my weight all my life, really since I was a teenager. "I got a lot of bullying at school because when I used to wear skirts I'd get called 'tree trunk legs' and fat. "After a couple times of wearing skirts I never wore them again. "I never wanted to go to school with a skirt on because I used to get called that all the time. "Food was a comfort for me. I used to sit at home and eat food because I got bullied and I felt like nobody fancied me." After struggling with her weight since she was a teen, Laura decided to commit to having gastric sleeve surgery. What is the difference between a gastric band, bypass and sleeve? The three most widely used types of weight loss surgery are: Gastric band: where a band is used to reduce the stomach's size, meaning you will feel full after eating a reduced amount of food where a band is used to reduce the stomach's size, meaning you will feel full after eating a reduced amount of food Gastric bypass: where your digestive system is re-routed past stomach, so you digest less food and it takes less to make you feel full where your digestive system is re-routed past stomach, so you digest less food and it takes less to make you feel full Sleeve gastrectomy: where some of the stomach is removed, to reduce the amount of food required to make you feel full When coupled with exercise and a healthy diet, weight loss surgery has been found to be effective in dramatically reducing a patient's excess body fat. Recent research in the United States found that people with gastric bands lose around half of their excess body weight. Meanwhile gastric bypasses reduce this excess body weight by two thirds post-op. However, it's not always successful - and patients still need to take responsibility for eating well and working out. Laura said: "I went to the doctors and asked to be put on the waiting list for a gastric sleeve in the UK but they told me I wasn't big enough. "I looked at the prices in the UK but it was £10,500 and I didn't have the money. "When I was pricing it up it was so much cheaper in Turkey than it was over here. "It was £2,400 and then the flights were £600, so about £3,000 in total. "The NHS was a six-year waiting list and I couldn't wait that long because I didn't leave the house. "I didn't see my friends or anything like that because they were all quite skinny and I was the fat one of the bunch." Since having the £3,000 op, Laura says she gets told she looks younger and some of her friends don't even recognise her when they see her in the street. Laura said: "I get told I look younger because I have lost a lot of weight in my face. "I feel good in myself and people say that I look amazing. "I do need to start taking those compliments in because I've been fat all of my life it's hard for me to say I do actually look good. "A lot of friends haven't seen me in the past 18 months and when I've been out they've walked past me. "I've had to tap them on the shoulder and say 'do you not recognise me?'." Laura says she now finally has the confidence to wear skirts and dresses again and will even be wearing a bikini when she goes on holiday in August. Laura said: "I never used to wear the stuff I wear now, there's no way I would be putting on a dress on above my knees. "I don't go out in jeans now, I only wear skirts or dresses." Laura says the operation 'saved her life' and has had a positive impact on her socially. Laura said: "I've always been the one [in my friend group] that's sat in the corner and not really danced because I didn't want to. "I'm on the dance floor before anyone else now because I've got so much energy I want to dance. "The operation saved my life. I'd still be sat in the house now not going out, so it has changed my life completely." Here's what Laura would eat in a day. TYPICAL FOOD DIARY BEFORE WEIGHTLOSS Breakfast - McDonalds breakfast Lunch - Pub lunch mixed grill or English breakfast Dinner - Takeaway or chips and sausages Snacks - Chocolate, sweets, crisps and five cans of Coca-Cola per day TYPICAL FOOD DIARY AFTER WEIGHTLOSS Breakfast - Protein coffee Lunch - None Dinner - Chicken salad, chilli or chicken and rice Snacks - Apples, cheese strings, decaf coffee The 5 best exercises to lose weight By Lucy Gornall, personal trainer and health journalist EXERCISE can be intimidating and hard to devote yourself to.
