The Live-Action ‘Lilo & Stitch' Is Getting Its Inevitable Sequel
Dean Fleischer Camp's summer blockbuster hit Lilo & Stitch has officially been given the Disney green light for a sequel.
It makes sense for Disney to make the move official today, on June 26—the date co-opted by the company to be an unofficial Stitch holiday inspired by his experiment code from the film, 626. The first film was a blockbuster hit for the studio, which made $920 million globally after being made for a mere $100 million, which is small considering Disney's usually oversized budgets. The endearing found-family sci-fi adventure delighted critics and even generated its fair share of controversies, and of course Stitch has long been a merchandizing stalwart for the company anyway.

We're excited to see Maia Kealoha reprise her role as Lilo too; the young actress stole our hearts as the film's spunky lead. As of publication, not many details have been released about Lilo & Stitch 2, other than the detail in the caption on Instagram that the film 'is now in development.'
There are so many places Disney's family franchise can go from here. The original animated film spun off into its own slate of films and multiple television series centered on the additional experiments Jumba made entering Stitch's orbit after the events of the film. In the remake, a couple of those experiments were teased, including fan favorite and Stitch's love interest, the pink alien Angel. We'll have to wait and see if the movies will follow that thread of the film's main characters going around to help Stitch find his alien family on new adventures, or if the idea will be completely new altogether.

Appearing on a recent installment of Watch What Happens Live, the iconic 77-year-old actor was asked which Terminator film he feels is the weakest in the franchise. Instead of offering a diplomatic answer or shying away from the question, the Conan the Barbarian star offered a fairly blunt response to the query. "I would say the worst was probably the number four [Terminator Salvation], because that was done during the time I was governor [of California] and I was not in it," the Twins actor said. "How do you do a Terminator movie without me being in the Terminator movie?" Schwarzenegger continued. "It doesn't make any sense." Released in 2009, Terminator Salavation jumped ahead in the series' narrative timeline, focusing on the post-apocalyptic between John Connor's (Christian Bale) human Resistance and the cybernetic armies of SkyNet. Starring Bale, Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin and Bryce Dallas Howard, the film earned mostly mixed to negative reviews, halting any plans for an immediate sequel. Ultimately, following Schwarzenegger's tenure as California's governor and his formal return to acting, the series continued with 2015's next installment, Terminator Genisys, which marked the actor's first time portraying his infamous T-800 since 2003's Terminator: Rise of the Machines. The film, like its later retconned sequel Terminator: Dark Fate, both earned similarly mixed reviews upon its release. Universal Horror Unleashed to bring year-round frights to Chicago's River West neighborhood
Get ready for ghosts and ghouls along the Chicago River. United Studios on Thursday announced the first Chicago location of its immersive horror experience "Universal Horror Unleashed," at a now-vacant building across from the new Bally's casino under construction in the River West neighborhood. Universal officials joined Mayor Brandon Johnson and other city leaders Thursday morning to announce the new entertainment venue. "Horror Unleashed is a 114,000-square-foot year-round venue, where guests will encounter bone-chilling scares as they brave their way through a themed immersive area. It's all fear all year, because horror isn't just for Halloween," Universal Destinations & Experiences President Page Thompson said. Slated to open in 2027, the facility will include "terrifying mazes, unforgettable scares, themed bars and unique food and beverage offerings, and a retail space featuring exclusive merchandise," according to a news release from the mayor's office. The mayor's office said the venue will create more than 400 permanent jobs, including operations leaders, merchandise hosts, entertainers, and makeup and prosthetics artists. "This project and redevelopment will also help uplift and revitalize a dynamic neighborhood," Johnson said. "I'm very excited about this announcement, and I have no doubt that fans of this genre will flock to our city for these memorable experiences." City and state officials estimated the project will generate more than $1 billion in economic impact for Illinois. The project will receive tax credits from the state's Economic Development for a Growing Economy program, which provides incentives to encourage companies to create and retain jobs in Illinois.
