Innisfil man accused of driving impaired with child passenger
Police in Innisfil say an allegedly impaired driver with a child passenger was pulled over shortly after purchasing alcohol at a convenience store on Innisfil Beach Road late Thursday evening.
South Simcoe police say officers watched the man exit the store located in a shopping plaza carrying alcoholic beverages and get into the driver's side of a vehicle. The child, they say, got into the passenger side.
'As the driver exited the plaza, police followed the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop,' the service noted.
Police say the 44-year-old man provided two breath samples and was subsequently charged with impaired driving with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood or higher, along with driving without a validated permit and no insurance.
As a result of the impaired charge, the man's licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded. Police say the child was returned home safely.
The incident prompted a reminder from police as we head into the long weekend to make responsible choices. 'Never drive impaired,' police stated. "Road safety is a responsibility we all share and together we can help to ensure every journey ends with a safe arrival. If you plan to consume alcohol and cannabis, do so responsibly, and always plan ahead to ensure you have a safe ride to and from your destination."
