Witness captures video of plane crashing into water near Mukilteo, WA
MUKILTEO, Wash. - Witnesses captured video of a plane crashing into the water near Lighthouse Park in Mukilteo Sunday. Some bystanders also jumped in the water to rescue the passengers inside. Mukilteo police say the pilot made an emergency landing with the plane at around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Video shows a Cessna dropping towards the water, so close to Lighthouse Park, witnesses could see the pilot and passengers inside. South County Fire Commissioner Michael Fearnehough was enjoying a day off at the park and started recording video on his cell phone when he saw the plane coming in over the water with landing gear down. "The plane flew past our position. I knew they were in trouble, so I said, 'Call 911'," said Fearnehough. He ran towards the docks where the plane went in. "By the time I was able to get across the park here, it had already hit the water and submerged here at the end of the dock," said Fearnehough. Fortunately, the pilot placed the plane right next to the docks and several people went into the water, opened the doors and started pulling people out. "The folks in the plane did seem distressed," said Fearnehough. Mukilteo police say the plane lost power with the pilot communicating with the tower at Paine Field that they needed to make an emergency landing. "I think the entire system worked exactly the way it should have been," said Fearnehough. He says a quick response by onlookers and emergency responders as well as the pilot's skill in landing right near the dock likely saved lives. "Expert piloting if you think about it. The pilot was completely in control, knew where he was going to put the plane in a safe location, and bystanders…were able to retrieve the folks out of the plane quickly," said Michael Fearnehough. Mukilteo police say the three people who were rescued were checked by fire crews and were "doing OK" as of Sunday afternoon. Grayslake man killed in Gurnee-area motorcycle crash
A Grayslake man was killed over the weekend when he failed to negotiate a curve on his motorcycle and collided with an oncoming vehicle, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office. The collision happened at about 6:20 a.m. Saturday on U.S. Route 45 by the Dada Drive intersection, near Gurnee. Police said the man, 27, was headed north on Route 45 on a 2007 Harley-Davidson at a high rate of speed. The cyclist momentarily lost control of his motorcycle on wet pavement. After regaining control, the cyclist continued north but failed to remain in his lane as his vehicle went around a curve. The cyclist crossed into the southbound lane and collided with a 2005 Nissan Rogue being driven by a 69-year-old Lake Villa man, police said. The cyclist was ejected and suffered critical injuries. He was brought to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Authorities have not yet released his identity. The accident remains under investigation.

NY man arrested for allowing 15-year-old to drive car involved in deadly NJ crash
A New York man has been arrested for allegedly allowing a 15-year-old to get behind the wheel of a car that was later involved in a crash in New Jersey, which left another teenager dead. The fatal collision occurred early in the morning of Feb. 28 on the Palisades Interstate Parkway, near the New York state line in Alpine, according to a statement from Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella. Authorities were called to the scene just before 6 a.m. to investigate reports of a crash between a 2025 Nissan Rogue carrying five occupants and a 2019 Honda CR-V, carrying only the driver, who was unharmed. One of the passengers in the Rogue, a 16-year-old from New York who was not identified, suffered serious injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene, the prosecutor's office said. Two of the other passengers were also seriously hurt while the teen driver sustained minor injuries. He was arrested back in March on a slew of charges, including vehicular homicide and operating a motor vehicle without a license during a fatal accident. Authorities said the teen was traveling at a high rate of speed and driving recklessly in the lead up to the crash. Ryan Chambers, 21 of Elmira, N.Y., was the lone adult in the packed Rogue at the time. He was arrested in Elmira Heights earlier this month and has since been charged with four counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Chambers was transported back to Bergen County, where he remains in custody at the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing.
