How long would the tasks we're putting off actually take? TikToker Christi Newrutzen has gone viral for timing herself completing chores she has been avoiding. 'I have been procrastinating on making a dentist's appointment for three years,' Newrutzen said in one video, viewed 3.6m times (presumably by people like me, ducking their own drudgery) before filming herself doing it in a mere nine minutes. Clearing her shower drain for the first time ever took only seven (albeit impressively revolting) minutes.
Newrutzen is comfortingly unvarnished and relatable; people have started thanking her for inspiring them to tackle the long-neglected corners of their own lives. After a week of algorithmic nudging to watch her, I too felt compelled to try, despite a sense of foreboding. (Surely I have good reasons for letting things fester?)
I started a timer and tried to reply to a long-overdue email from my accountant. I assumed this would be simple, but soon realised it would require me to confront some of the things I loathe the most: password-protected portals, Excel and, worst of all, my bank statements. I hacked away for 38 miserable minutes, just long enough to pass the buck, temporarily, to my husband.
Next, getting a doctor's appointment to have the weird-looking mole I found in December checked. One perfectly pleasant phone call later, it was booked: nine minutes, 47 seconds. I rewarded myself by tackling a plate of miscellaneous bathroom flotsam I had been looking at, thinking, 'I should do something about that' every time I brushed my teeth for the past four years.
However, in a devastating turn of events, during the eight minutes and 50 seconds it took to clear the plate of shame (Thai coins from 2015, tags from long-dead trousers, a bewildering number of screws), my husband had retaliated, lobbing a horrible heap of documents back into my inbox. Some hours later, I also realised I had booked my doctor's appointment for a day when I would be out of the country and remembered why I started procrastinating in the first place: because chores beget more chores. This stuff will never, ever end, so I might as well watch more TikTok.

The forward enjoyed a storied career as he spent 18 years with boyhood club Santos before embarking on a journey in the United States with the New York Cosmos where he retired in 1977. Pele became a worldwide ambassador for the sport and supported numerous charitable causes after his footballing career but fell seriously ill in 2021 when he was diagnosed with colon cancer. After undergoing treatment in the following months, he later died in December 2022 at the age of 82 with his cause of death being multiple organ failure, a complication of his previous cancer diagnosis. The Santos icon's penultimate residence was a million-pound mansion on Pernambuco Beach in Guaruja that included a football field, a swimming pool, a tennis court and a bar. It was in 2024 that the property was entered by influencer Lucas Wesley and two of his content creator friends. Wesley – who posted the 90-minute video on TikTok in October 2024 which garnered over 2.5million views – said he was able to enter the property after finding the garage door slightly open. The influencer reposted the footage he captured on Instagram earlier this month that led to his findings gaining attention on social media once again. He said he nobody had responded inside the property and found it to be empty. "Getting to know this place and seeing up close everything that once belonged to Pelé is indescribable," Wesley said. "For anyone who is a football fan and knows Pelé's history, they would certainly be moved by everything there, just as we were." However, he admitted the poor state the property – which is under the control of Pele's son Edinho – had been left in caused him to feel emotional. "[It was] dirty and vandalised," he claimed. "For us fans, it leaves a truly sad feeling." In Wesley's footage, viewers were able to see the football pitch in the garden that was almost completely taken over by foliage while the swimming pool was ridden with algae, turning the water green. The property being labelled as abandoned is said to be incorrect, according to Edinho's lawyer, Augusto Miglioli, who said the property is not abandoned and is purely an inherited property from his father. Part of the mansion was hidden by the undergrowth that looked to have remained uncut for a considerable amount of time. Rust was prevalent on the gates while cobwebs covered sections of the building. Miglioli had warned Wesley and his two friends that they "will be held civilly and criminally responsible". According to lawyer Thyago Garcia, it is only when the owner of a property expresses a lack of interest in the controlling of the building can it be considered abandoned. "The mere deterioration, lack of maintenance, or even being unoccupied for a long period of time does not suffice to describe it as legally abandoned," Garcia explained. He added that the ability to enter a property through unlocked doors or open windows does not warrant entry from a third-party without the consent of the owner. "Possession and ownership are protected by law regardless of property condition," he continued. The current state of the property is a far cry from it's previous look decades prior where Pele played host to parties at the mansion for friends and celebrities.

A mother who bears an uncanny resemblance to her daughter has revealed people often mistake them for twins - and even claims bouncers demand to see her ID when she goes clubbing. Lisa Johnston, from Glasgow, Scotland, said people are often 'gobsmacked' when they learn she's 36 and the mother of her 18-year-old 'built-in best friend' Alicia Johnston. The semi-permanent make-up artist was a young mother, who had Alicia when she was just 17 years old. Now, as Alicia reaches adulthood, her mother claims heads turn in public when her daughter calls her 'mum'. The lookalike pair are also often mistaken as sisters on the school run and share clothes, make-up, shoes and even friends with one another. The mother-of-two regularly posts TikTok videos with Alicia leaving baffled users scratching their heads as to who is the mother- something Lisa sees as a 'confidence boost'. Lisa said: 'Everybody's a bit gobsmacked. We've been out a couple of times together at pubs and things like that and everybody can't believe it either. They're like, 'What? Are you friends or sisters?'. 'Someone once asked to see my ID because they couldn't believe it in one of the pubs we were at in town. It is kind of like who's who?' Age-defying Lisa credits her youthful looks to a healthy lifestyle and avoiding unnecessary stress. Lisa said: 'Fitness and healthy eating is a big part of my lifestyle. I go to the gym five times a week. 'I just try not to get too stressed out. I take life as fun, we're all just living life. I don't get myself too riled up on anything, I think that's a big part as well. It really is like having a built-in best friend.' Youthful Lisa is also great pals with all of Alicia's friends and she often hangs out with her daughter and friends. Alicia said: 'My friends love coming over because my mum is like a friend. They'll just chat away to her. 'There will be times where I'm minding my own business and I'll get a phone call and they're like, 'I'm out with your mum right now.' 'She's part of the friendship group. I'm never really bothered when people mistake us for sisters, I think it's funny. 'I would say this only started when I was about 15. I was just starting TikTok and me and mum were making TikTok videos together sometimes. 'As I got older and I looked more like my mum, people were like, 'oh my God, you actually look so similar'. 'We've basically got the same make-up routine and everything. So it's actually good sharing make-up shoes, hair products, everything.' The pair share the same love of looking glam and Lisa has even taken an eyelash course so she can do her daughter's lashes on a budget. Lisa said: 'I ended up showing Alicia how to do them [lashes] as well so that was something that we do together. It was something I could pass down to her. 'I was like, 'as they get older, the girls will want things done and their mum can do it instead of spending hundreds of pounds'.' Social media users have been quick to share their confusion with some even questioning if they are really mother and daughter. One user said: 'That is not your mummy she looks in her 20s.'
