‘It will be a super move for CSK if they let go of R Ashwin': Krishnamachari Srikkanth backs spin legend's exit
The Indian Express had reported that the former India all-rounder has gained interest from a couple of franchises and has had talks with CSK over his future as a player. But what is adding to the intrigue is the fact that Ashwin is currently also serving as the head of CSK's High Performance Centre and Super Kings Academy
However, Srikkanth backed Ashwin's exit for the good for CSK after his underwhelming reunion with MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja last season.
'Actually I am with CSK and if they do it, it will be a super move. I think they can muster up around 42 crores and with the youngsters who performed well at the end of the season, they can form a good side,' Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.
While Srikkath recognised the legendary Ashwin's qualities, he exhorted that franchise cricket remains results-driven. Ashwin had one of his poorest IPL seasons earlier this year, picking up only seven wickets in nine matches at a 40.42 average. 'They thought it was a good pick, but unfortunately, you've got to understand that it's franchise cricket at the end of the day and not Tamil Nadu cricket. Yes, all of us admire him for his records, he has done brilliantly for IPL, CSK, India, and Tamil Nadu. But that apart, you have to win championships. The last two years CSK have not qualified for the playoffs,' Srikkanth said.
Srikkanth also added that no cricketer in India is indispensable, citing Ashwin's mid-series Test retirement during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2024.
'Even Washington Sundar was preferred over R Ashwin in Australia. The point is that he's had a brilliant career but this is franchise cricket and this is bound to happen. It's corporate cricket — what can you do? It's the same corporate cricket that gives you a lot of money,' he added.

‘I don't think the quality was as good as '05': Michael Atherton on Anderson-Tendulkar when compared to 2005 Ashes
The recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar trophy ended up in a 2-2 draw. There were many nerve-wracking moments through the series, and also a few heartwarming ones. However, as far as the quality of cricket goes, former England cricketer Michael Atherton said he preferred the 2005 Ashes, which is touted as the best Test series in the modern era, over the 2025 England vs India one. 'I don't think the quality was as good as '05. I don't think I've seen a better series than the '05 Ashes. It was a great team on the decline and the emerging team, absolutely great players at the top of their game,' Atherton said while speaking on Sky Sports. 'But it was probably the best series since '05. The 2023 Ashes was fantastic, but I'll put this series as the best series since '05 because of those dramatic moments, like Woakes and like Rishabh Pant,' Atherton added. Former Indian cricketer R Ashwin said this one is better than the 2025 England-Australia showdown. 'A lot of people are comparing this series with the 2005 Ashes, but I think this series was slightly better than even the 2005 Ashes – because there was so much more imperfection, from both sides,' Ashwin said on his YouTube channel, Ash ki Baat. 'If you look at that Australian team, there was Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne, you had Michael Kasprowicz, Shaun Tait. From this side [England] you had Simon Jones, Steve Harmison, you had Ashley Giles. There was a lot of experience in the bowling attacks. There was experience in the batting too. There was a lot of hard-fought cricket, where you couldn't see a lot of mistakes. It was hard-fought.' While Ashwin did acknowledge this as a good series, he also mentioned it was an imperfect series. 'In this series, there were a lot of mistakes,' Ashwin added. 'But the young players have corrected their mistakes and gotten better through the series. You had somebody like KL Rahul who's not put a foot wrong in the series. Then you had somebody like a Rishabh Pant or Shubman Gill, who made errors – both got run out once – they played some poor shots and got out at the crucial moments.'

'My Life, My Career': IPL's Rs 23.75 Crore Star Snubs Critics Not On His 'Contact List'
Last Updated: After an underwhelming IPL season, Venkatesh Iyer critics will continue to have their say and he has learned to focus only on those who have a direct impact on his life. For Kolkata Knight Riders, IPL 2025 was a forgettable affair. They started the season as the defending champions and finished eighth in the standings – failing to even qualify for the playoffs. KKR's critics had already sharpening their knives well ahead of the start of the campaign given the franchise had released their title-winning skipper Shreyas Iyer ahead of the mega auction who was then signed by their rivals for a jawdropping amount and he led them to a runners-up finish. Additionally, KKR splurged a whopping Rs 23.75 crore to re-sign Venkatesh Iyer – an allrounder who was part of their roster in IPL 2024. Iyer's amount was the third-highest of the two-day IPL mega auction after Rishabh Pant and Shreys Iyer. Naturally, he was the center of attention during the season as the astronomical sum that KKR shelled out to ensure he remained within their fold had to be justified. Like KKR, Iyer too had an underwhelming season. He mustered 142 runs from seven innings and didn't bowl in any of the 11 games he was part of. Every time, he failed with the bat, the price-tag became a talking point. However, the 30-year-old has no time for the critics of his hefty price-tag and choses to pay attention to only those who have a direct impact on his life. 'People who had these questions are not even on my contact list," Iyer told Sportskeeda. 'So why do I have to even think about what they are thinking? It's my life, my game, my career. And it's my team that has chosen to spend so much on me. So these things don't phase me. See, for a boy who wanted to just play IPL cricket, even ₹20 lakh would sometimes feel like a significant amount. And over the years, this is what I've learnt. Not just me, but all the cricketers have learnt this: there are a lot of eyes on you, but it's important to know what to pay heed to." 'People who have had a direct impact on my life, I am answerable to only them," he adds. Iyer though doesn't feel that one should just simply ignore the criticism coming there way. 'A lot of people have opinions – good and bad. But I only take opinions from people who directly impact me. And of course, legends were talking in analysis. And not paying heed to them is not correct, but you should understand where they are coming from. It is important to understand the fact that it's me who's battling in that situation. So it is tough to deal with those opinions when things don't go your way," he said. Iyer, who has 1468 runs from 62 IPL matches including a century and 12 fifties, says the legends of the game who have been criticial of his performances have been nothing but helpful. 'I am sure all these legends must have gone through a similar phase. And they understand as well. When I met these people, they were extremely kind enough to tell me what was going wrong and how to kind of negate all those things. I do take the learnings and not the critics part of it," he said.
