Queen 'branded Meghan Markle and Prince Harry a catastrophe' in 'startling' dig
The late Queen branded Meghan Markle and Prince Harry"a complete catastrophe" in the weeks before she died, according to a source.
King Charles ' mum, who passed away at the age of 96 in September 2022, was said to have made the comments during a drinks reception at Balmoral in August of that year. A source claimed the late monarch branded the Duchess of Sussex "evil" as the relationship between the Sussexes and the Firm reached an all-time low.
She was allegedly "regretful" that Harry had stepped down as a working royal and had moved to California with his family, according to the source, who claimed the way the Queen spoke about Meghan saw "everybody's eyebrows hit the ceiling." The insider told The Spectator: "It was out of character for the Queen to use such a word as 'evil' to describe Meghan, but she saw straight through her. It was a startling sentence to hear from the most forgiving woman on Earth.
"At the drinks before the dinner, a small group were talking to the monarch and she explained that Harry meeting Meghan had become a complete catastrophe and described her as evil. By this point, we all knew the Queen's health was in decline and she had months left, she seemed regretful about how things had panned out."
The alleged comments came after Harry and Meghan made a number of serious allegations about the Royal Family, including claims of racism over their son Archie's skin colour and that Meghan had not been shown support while struggling with mental health problems. The allegations by the Sussexes were made in their Netflix series, in an interview with Oprah Winfrey and also in Harry's memoir, Spare.
Despite their claims, however, Harry and Meghan have always spoken highly of the Queen, with the former Suits actress telling Oprah that the late monarch was "wonderful" to her. She added: "I've loved being in her company. She's always been warm, welcoming, and inviting."
Meghan, who was in tears at the Queen's funeral, told Variety in 2023: "There's been such an outpouring of love and support. I'm really grateful that I was able to be with my husband to support him, especially during that time.
"What's so beautiful is to look at the legacy that his grandmother was able to leave on so many fronts. Certainly, in terms of female leadership, she is the most shining example of what that looks like.
"I feel deep gratitude to have been able to spend time with her and get to know her. It's been a complicated time, but my husband, ever the optimist, said, 'Now she's reunited with her husband.'
"I've reflected on that first official engagement that I had with her, and how special that felt. I feel fortunate. And I continue to be proud to have had a nice warmth with the matriarch of the family."
Meghan and Harry were in Europe on other engagements when the Queen passed, which allowed Harry to travel to Balmoral to be with his family immediately after her death. The couple remained in the UK until the funeral, joining the new Prince and Princess of Wales to view floral tributes in Windsor. It was the first time the two couples were seen together since their fall out and Meghan and Harry's bombshell Oprah interview.
"In big moments in life, you get a lot of perspective," Meghan explained, "It makes you wonder what you want to focus your energy on. Right now, we feel energized and excited about all of the things we've been building toward. We're also focused on our foundation. So much of the work we do includes the philanthropic space."

'Woke' Netflix bosses axe iconic scene from Pride and Prejudice remake to 'avoid objectifying men'
Netflix bosses have axed an iconic moment from Pride and Prejudice in a new 'woke' move to avoid 'objectifying men'. The unforgettable scene of Mr Darcy - played by Colin Firth - emerging from a lake was all the rage in 1995. But show bosses have confirmed it will not resurface in the forthcoming version of the rom-com. According to reports, many fans will be disappointed as the famous BBC scene is said to have 'got millions of women hot under the collar'. A source told The Sun: 'It is also credited for sparking subsequent moments of male objectification on screen - likes Aidan Turner's famous topless scything scene in Poldark.' It's claimed that Netflix bosses 'don't want a repeat'. The saucy scene soon became one of the most favourite TV scenes, however it didn't actually feature in Jane Austen's original 1813 story. Arguably the most iconic wet shirt ever worn sold at auction for £25,000 - double its estimated sale price. The famous scene turned Oscar-winner Firth into a sex symbol and also rocketed the shirt's sale price 30 years later, after auctioneers estimated it would be sold for between £7,000 and £10,000. The sale contained costumes archived by Cosprop, a costume house founded by Oscar-winning designer John Bright in 1965. Oscar-winner Firth played Fitzwilliam Darcy in the 1995 BBC adaptation of Jane Austen's novel, opposite Jennifer Ehle as Elizabeth Bennet - who is surprised when she visits his estate, Pemberley, to find him wet and not properly dressed. The moment has been re-imagined in Netflix series Bridgerton, when British actor Jonathan Bailey steps out of a lake, and was also referenced in Bridget Jones's Diary, which stars Firth as another Mr Darcy, a nod to his portrayal by writer Helen Fielding. The famous 'wet shirt' was designed by renowned costume designer Dinah Collin and then made by Cosprop. Cosprop's general manager Chris Garlick said multiple versions of the shirt were made as it was worn in wet and dry scenes, and in case of re-takes. The whereabouts of three fully verified shirts are known, according to Kerry Taylor. Almost 30 years after the scene first aired, the now dry shirt was sold for a hammer price of £20,000, with the buyer's premium of £5,000 taking the overall total to £25,000, all of which will go to charity. Costumes from TV drama series including Poldark, Peaky Blinders and Downton Abbey also went under the hammer.

Harry and Meghan 'frustrated' after details of secret 'peace summit' between Sussexes' spokesperson and King's aide is caught on camera
Harry and Meghan are said to be frustrated after a meeting between their chief of communications and an aide of the King was caught on camera. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex last night denied leaking details of the rendezvous between Meredith Maines and the King's communications secretary Tobyn Andreae in London on Wednesday. Liam Maguire, who runs Harry and Meghan's UK public relations team, was also at the meeting at the Royal Over-Seas League near Clarence House – a private members' club, which, somewhat ironically, champions international friendship and of which the King is patron. It is not known whether it was Charles or Harry who arranged the 'peace talks' but pictures of the two sides enjoying drinks raised hopes of a reconciliation. Both Harry, 40, and his father, 76, are said to be keen to reconcile, especially after the King was diagnosed with cancer last year. However, Harry and Meghan are said to have been frustrated that pictures of the extraordinary meeting were published in The Mail on Sunday. Sources close to Prince Harry insisted the Sussexes were not responsible for passing details of the meeting on to the newspaper. A secret meeting took place between Head of Comms for Royal Family Tobyn Andrea and Meridith Maines head of comms for The Sussexes Harry and Meghan are said to have been frustrated that pictures of the extraordinary meeting were published in The Mail on Sunday A source said the summit was only the 'first step towards reconciliation between Harry and his father, but at least it is a step in the right direction' They acknowledged that having the details splashed across newspaper front pages was not an ideal start to what they had hoped would be a new period of peace, The Telegraph reported last night. Pictures of the meeting show Ms Maines, carrying a black Louis Vuitton bag, arrive by taxi with Mr Maguire at 3:50pm on Wednesday. Mr Andreae turned up minutes later carrying a gift from Berry Bros & Rudd, the official wine supplier to the Royal Family. The trio were later seen chatting over drinks in the 26C (78F) sunshine on a first-floor garden terrace overlooking Green Park. After ten minutes they resumed their discussions inside. A source said the summit was only the 'first step towards reconciliation between Harry and his father, but at least it is a step in the right direction'. The source told The Mail on Sunday: 'There's a long road ahead, but a channel of communication is now open for the first time in years. There was no formal agenda, just casual drinks. There were things both sides wanted to talk about.' Royal experts suggested the meeting was 'more of a courtesy call' than peace talks. Royal commentator Ingrid Seward said she believed it was simply a chance for Ms Maines, who was appointed earlier this year, to meet her British counterpart, respected royal aide Mr Andreae. King Charles III walks with his son Britain's Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex as they arrive at St George's Chapel on September 19, 2022, ahead of the Committal Service for Queen Elizabeth II The Palace refused to comment on whether Prince William was aware of the meeting but royal experts said it was unlikely to have gone ahead without his approval. The 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham is one opportunity for a public reconciliation reportedly being discussed by both sides. Buckingham Palace and Mr Andreae declined to comment last night. The Sussexes' representatives did not respond.
