IIT Roorkee launches Strategic Product Management programme to shape future product leaders
Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) has launched a Strategic Product Management (SPM) programme to empower aspiring professionals and freshers to become future-ready product leaders. The five-month program aims to empower learners with end-to-end product thinking, from ideation to go-to-market execution, through live online classes and a three-day campus immersion at IIT Roorkee.
Candidates with a bachelor's degree or an equivalent qualification with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks are eligible to apply for the course. A diploma (10+3) is also acceptable. Selection will be based on a holistic profile evaluation, considering academic performance, current roles, and a statement of purpose.
The institute will commence the programme from August 9 this year.
Program highlights include: live online classes by IIT Roorkee faculty, real-world BYOP project with mentor support, 3-day on-campus immersion at IIT Roorkee, weekend learning format (Saturday and Sunday sessions) and training in industry-standard tools. CEC, IIT Roorkee will also provide a certificate and help in personalized interview preparation
The program will focus on critical areas including:
A senior programme faculty member said, 'This programme empowers learners to think beyond features and roadmaps. It encourages product thinkers to approach innovation holistically combining human insight, data, and strategic intent.'
The programme will culminate in a Post Graduate Certificate from the Continuing Education Centre (CEC), and participants will conceptualize and present a live product with expert guidance from IIT Roorkee faculty and industry mentors.
This IIT-Roorkee led programme will help to build product leaders who can navigate complexity, leverage AI, and translate customer insights into breakthrough innovations.

The making of Chenab rail bridge captured in satellite images
The satellite images of the newly inaugurated Chenab Rail Bridge, the world's highest railway arch bridge, provide a visual journey through the construction of this engineering marvel over nearly a 2017, early satellite imagery captured auxiliary structures on the two mountain peaks flanking the Chenab River in Dharot, highlighting the initial stages of the bridge's construction. By 2022, images showed the steel arch—spanning 1,315 metres—almost complete, with just a small segment left to be joined. The latest image from February 2025 reveals the bridge in its final form: a fully completed structure that used 25,000 tonnes of metal—three times the amount used in the Eiffel Tower. advertisementThe Chenab Bridge is a key component of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project and now seamlessly connects the Kashmir Valley to the rest of India via rail. Its construction in the young and geologically unstable Himalayan range posed numerous challenges. Located in a high seismic zone, the site required Indian Railways to undertake extensive geological and structural studies. The design was modified multiple times to endure simulated wind speeds of up to 266 km/ Roorkee conducted earthquake response modelling, ensuring the bridge could withstand earthquakes as strong as the 2001 Gujarat quake, which measured 7.7 on the Richter scale. Among the toughest hurdles was simply reaching the remote site to deliver heavy construction equipment and materials. Built by Afcons Infrastructure, a part of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, the bridge also meets high security standards. It was engineered to remain standing even if one of its 14 pillars collapses.
