New York Yankees pick up huge three-game sweep in St. Louis originally appeared on The Sporting News
The temperatures on the field reached as high as 98 degrees, but that did not cool down Aaron Boone and his New York Yankees.
The Bronx Bombers took care of business with a massive three-game series sweep over the St. Louis Cardinals.
New York got on the board early, with Jasson Dominguez, Ryan McMahon and Jose Caballero all driving in a run in the fourth inning.
St. Louis came all the way back, and took a 4-3 lead, before the Yankees scored the final four runs of the game.
The ninth inning was aided by some poor St. Louis defense, as Thomas Saggese made two errors to cost a big inning. JoJo Romero was the pitcher of record, allowing four runs, and retiring just two batters.

New York needed just eight hits, with former Cardinal star Paul Goldschmidt coming away with three, while Dominguez picked up two of them in the game.
The win for New York puts them back to 10 games over .500, and with the Toronto loss on Sunday, they are now 5.5 games out of first place in the American League Central.
The Yankees will put their three-game winning streak on the line Tuesday when they play the first of two straight at the Rays.

Robinhood app to allow local wagers on Boston College football despite state ban

Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up To avoid state regulations, Robinhood partnered with Kalshi, a New York-based prediction market that offers contracts to bet on Advertisement Instead of having a bookmaker such as FanDuel or DraftKings set odds, collect bets, and pay winners, prediction markets allow participants to buy and sell contracts that pay off if an event occurs or expire with no value if the event does not occur. Before an event occurs, the price of a contract varies based on demand from buyers and sellers. Advertisement The Commodity Futures Trading Commission in Washington, DC, tried for years to block prediction market wagers entirely, 'Customers in Massachusetts will be able to access prediction markets for supported in-state colleges,' a Robinhood spokesman said. 'The event contracts offered by Robinhood Derivatives are regulated by the CFTC and offered through CFTC-registered entities.' A spokesperson for the Massachusetts Gaming Commission confirmed that the prediction market activity is regulated by the CFTC. The commission 'is responsible for regulating casinos, sports wagering operators, and horse racing in the Commonwealth,' the spokesperson said in an email. 'The Commission is monitoring CFTC action and prediction markets in general.' However, Secretary of State William Galvin has Current state rules such as the ban on betting on local college games are enforced on a geographic basis, so no one using a mobile app can bet on a Massachusetts college game while in the state. The restriction doesn't apply when a user is located in another state, even if they are a Massachusetts resident. Since prediction markets moved into sport-related wagers, at least six states have sued to block the offerings, with mixed results. Federal courts in Nevada and New Jersey ruled in favor of the prediction markets, while a Maryland federal court favored the gaming commission there. All of the rulings have been appealed. Advertisement 'The law is quite unsettled here,' said attorney and independent consultant Mark Hichar, who has represented sports betting operators in the past. 'We are in a exciting time for sports lawyers, because we have a conflict among courts, which could be resolved by the US Supreme Court.' If wagering on sports via prediction markets continues to expand, it could endanger revenue and profits at companies like DraftKings and FanDuel that offer state-regulated bets — and pay significant state taxes, Hichar added. That would risk eliminating tax revenue, which totaled $116 million in the first year from mobile app sports betting in Massachusetts. DraftKings declined to comment on Robinhood's new offering. On a quarterly earnings call with analysts this month, chief executive Jason Robins said his company is 'actively exploring' prediction markets and could launch its own similar product in the future. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The New York Yankees know Anthony Volpe hasn't been himself lately, and the fanbase has urged the organization to bench their starting shortstop. However, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic is confirming the team currently has no plans to bench Volpe. TAMPA, FLORIDA - AUGUST 20: Anthony Volpe #11 of the New York Yankees fields a ground ball in the third inning against the Tampa Bay Rays at George M. Steinbrenner Field on August 20, 2025... TAMPA, FLORIDA - AUGUST 20: Anthony Volpe #11 of the New York Yankees fields a ground ball in the third inning against the Tampa Bay Rays at George M. Steinbrenner Field on August 20, 2025 in Tampa, Florida. More"(José) Caballero is the hot new toy in Yankeeland," wrote Kuty. "He can do no wrong right now. But, no, they will not be benching Volpe for Caballero. Volpe's -9 OAA (Outs Above Average) at shortstop this season is tied for last in the majors with CJ Abrams, Bo Bichette and J.P. Crawford, but the Yankees believe he's much better than what the public metrics suggest. They are all-in on Volpe being the shortstop; Caballero having success in a small sample won't change that." The Yankees have invested a lot into Volpe, and this bad stretch isn't going to change their perspective on him. New York knows that Volpe still has some untapped potential, and it is waiting for him to showcase that both at the plate and defensively. However, Kuty does provide an option for the Yankees to consider going forward. "What Caballero's presence could mean is more off days for Volpe," wrote Kuty. "He sat for one game in the St. Louis series, and that could be something the Yankees choose to explore more if Volpe struggles. He's in one of his usual prolonged slumps (6 for his last 44)." Caballero's hot streak will allow the team to be more flexible, but it appears the Yankees believe he hasn't done enough to permanently bump Volpe from the starting lineup.
