Eurovision crew member hit with paint as pair try to disrupt Israel performance
The incident took place as the October 7 survivor sang her entry New Day Will Rise, which was greeted with cheers and boos, as BBC Eurovision Song Contest commentator Graham Norton said there was a 'mixed response' in the arena in Basel, Switzerland.
A spokesman for Swiss broadcaster SRG SSR said: 'At the end of the Israeli performance a man and a woman tried to get over a barrier on to the stage.

'They were stopped. One of the two agitators threw paint and a crew member was hit.
'The crew member is fine and nobody was injured. The man and the woman were taken out of the venue and handed over to the police.'
Swiss police confirmed the two people were handed over to them and that they have now been released.
A spokesman for Basel police said: 'The organiser handed the two people over to the police. The police checked the two people and then released them. It is now up to the organiser to decide whether to press charges.'
Earlier, there were pro-Palestinian protests near a free concert in the centre of Basel to demonstrate against Israel's inclusion, with a small group nearby also protesting with Israeli flags.
Later the group advocating for Israel to be removed from Eurovision moved across Basel, where they were met by a significant police presence, and tear gas was seen being used.
It comes after Raphael's rehearsal for the semi-final of the competition was 'disrupted' by six people with 'oversized flags and whistles' who obstructed her act.
SRG SSR, which is organising the event in Basel after Nemo triumphed for Switzerland with The Code in Malmo 2024, said the group was quickly ejected from the St Jakobshalle arena.

A spokeswoman for SRG SSR said of the incident: 'During the dress rehearsal for the second semi-final of the ESC this afternoon, the performance of Israeli singer Yuval Raphael was disrupted.
'Six people, including a family, disrupted the rehearsal with oversized flags and whistles.
'Security personnel were able to quickly identify those involved and escort them out of the hall.
'We would like to thank all the artists, delegations, staff, fans and guests, including many children, who are making ESC 2025 a unique experience.
'At the same time, we would like to emphasise that the organisers are committed to a neutral, safe, inclusive and respectful environment at the ESC.'
Videos on social media appeared to show a large Palestinian flag being extended in the crowd across several people, while an Israeli symbol was also seen in the audience.

Yet, many have only just cottoned on to the charming tradition that heralds the birth of babies in Switzerland. Curiosity has been piqued among travellers to Switzerland who've spotted curious signs adorned with animals or characters, alongside a name and date of birth, leaving them puzzled about their meaning. An Australian woman, now residing in Switzerland and known as Aussie Spat mum online, has taken to sharing fascinating customs she's encountered since her move. In a video, the mum revealed: "In Switzerland, when a baby is born, the whole village gets the news... literally!". She elaborated: "Birth signs with the baby's name and date of birth pop up on buildings, balconies and front yards to welcome the newest little one!". These birth announcements, referred to as 'Geburtstafeln', are essentially birth signs usually mounted on poles or trees. They remain on display until family and friends have visited to fete the new arrival, after which they are removed. Commenting on the Instagram post, an individual explained: "Let me share how it's done in central Switzerland: you get them from friends, family, godparents or your 'verein'. After one year, the parents are supposed to take them down with a 'Täfelifescht'. This means you organise a barbecue or similar social gathering event where all the people are invited who got you a sign." Another Swiss person chimed in: "We use this as an open competition for the worst baby names." While one commenter was charmed by the tradition: "I need to experience this land of joy and happiness." One user shared that they follow a similar custom in the Netherlands, while someone else noted: "In Germany some people show it by hanging newborn clothes or a little wooden stork outside as well." On Reddit, a Nidwalden resident mentioned: "I live in Nidwalden, close to Lucerne and they're so normal here that it's seen as odd when people don't do it. They're called 'Geburtstafeln', so literally 'birth signs'. They are hanged on the balcony when a child is born and they have the name of the child and its birth date written on them." Another Reddit user added: "This is common in Switzerland especially in the German speaking part. They have this and later on the kids keep them." Someone else pointed out former US practices, stating that although this used to be more common stateside, "police recommend against it because it puts your child at risk of abduction." Meanwhile, Welcome Switzerland highlighted the unique cultural practice on Facebook, saying: "In Switzerland, welcoming a newborn means more than just cards and social media posts!". The first event was held twelve years ago in Brighton when British performance group Shambush came up with the idea in 2013. And this year, people came together to recreate the dance in the song's iconic video in Scotland's capital city. Music fans of all ages dressed in gorgeous, bright red dresses similar to the one that Kate wore in the original video. And many beamed as they were taught the same dance moves while music played in the background. Many women wore long red dresses with black belts, and little girls wore matching outfits and red jumpers with red hairpieces. Some men were even spotted wearing red dresses as well as they got in on the action. The event started at 4pm, giving performers time to get checked in, fix their outfits and collect merchandise before a welcome at 4.30pm. A warm-up then started at 4.35pm before the dance was taught ten minutes later. After a quick water break, the dance started at 5.10pm and attendees performed it twice before posing for a group photo. It read: "Welcome to The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever – Edinburgh 2025! "Get ready to dress up in your best red dress and join us for a fun-filled afternoon of dancing and celebrating the iconic music video by Kate Bush. "The event will take place on Saturday, June 7, at 4.30pm as part of the programme at the Meadows Festival. INSTANTLY CAPITVATED KATE Bush wrote her chart-topping song Wuthering Heights whe she was just 18 years old. The hit song was her debut single and became an unexpected number one hit almost 50 years ago back in 1978. It was actually the first song that was written and performed by a female artist to reach the UK top spot. Despite the song being named after Emily Brontë's novel, it wasn't the book itself that inspired Kate, now 66, to write the song. In an interview in 1978, she told the BBC that the broadcaster's 1967 TV series of the story is what gave her the idea. Kate explained that she came across an episode of the telly adaptation and was blown away by it's startling imagery. At the time, she said: "I just managed to catch the very last few minutes where there was a hand coming through the window and blood everywhere and glass. "And I just didn't know what was going on, and someone explained the story." "Let's come together as a community and recreate the magic of the Wuthering Heights dance. "Don't miss out on this unforgettable experience!" Pictures and videos of the event have been widely shared on social media, and many flocked to the comments to praise the dancers. One person said: "Wish I was there... great!" Another added: "Omg, I wish I'd been there!" Someone else wrote: "Love it! Well done". And a fourth posted: "That's pretty cool!" While a fifth chimed in: "Wow, this looks fabulous! Well done".
