Lions Rookie Isaac TeSlaa Shares His Hatred for the Green Bay Packers

Lions Rookie Isaac TeSlaa Shares His Hatred for the Green Bay Packers

Yahoo21-05-2025

The Detroit Lions made a surprising decision in the third round of this year's NFL Draft.
They traded their third-round pick along with two third rounders in next year's draft to move up to pick 70 and select wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa.

The move was seen as a bit of a reach at the time as TeSlaa wasn't all that productive in his two years at Arkansas.
That narrative has been changing a bit since the draft as it was revealed there were multiple other teams who could have selected TeSlaa around pick 70 and the Lions faced competition to trade for the pick.

Now he has taken a step to endear himself to fans that might make them happier with the pick.
During the most recent episode of the "St. Brown Podcast" TeSlaa told new teammate Amon-Ra St. Brown that he already hates the Green Bay Packers.
TeSlaa told St. Brown, "I hate the Packers with a burning passion."

TeSlaa already having strong feelings about the Lions' rivals shouldn't come as a big surprise.
The rookie receiver grew up in Michigan and has been rooting for the Lions for years.
He even mentioned on the podcast that he had shown up to his pre-draft visit with the Lions wearing a custom Lions jersey that had his high school jersey number on it.
Luckily for TeSlaa, he won't have to wait very long to put his hatred of the Packers to good use.
The Lions are scheduled to head to Green Bay for a Week 1 matchup against their division rival.
TeSlaa can quickly help Lions fans forget how much he cost if he puts together a solid performance in that matchup.

Jordan Love "can't wait" to face Aaron Rodgers when Packers play Steelers

The Packers visit the Steelers on Sunday Night Football in Week Eight, and Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love already has his meeting with Pittsburgh quarterback Aaron Rodgers circled on his calendar. 'It's going to be fun. It's going to be awesome. I'm excited for it,' Love told Jason Wilde of 'I can't wait to be on different sides, meeting up, and I know we'll talk pre-game, things like that. And hopefully we can exchange jerseys after.' Advertisement Green Bay drafted Love in the first round in 2020, and Love stood on the sideline and watched as Rodgers had MVP seasons in both 2020 and 2021. But after three years as Rodgers' backup, Love got to become the Packers' starter when Rodgers was traded to the Jets in 2023. It was similar to Rodgers' own experience backing up Brett Favre for his first three NFL seasons. 'I appreciate definitely the way A-Rod handled being in that situation, and I think a big part of it — which he told me — was he knew how it was for him being in that same position, and the things that he went through and the way the situation might've been handled [differently],' Love said. 'I think his perspective was, 'I'm trying to go about this a little bit differently,' which I think was awesome. In my time with A-Rod, we had a great relationship. It was awesome being in the same room with him, being able to learn. He was amazing with everything. And I definitely appreciate the way he handled everything on the outside with obviously him leaving and me taking over, and he's been very supportive of me [since]. It definitely helped with some of the negativity that might've come with that. But A-Rod handled it like a pro and did very right by me.' Love said he thinks Rodgers will do well in Pittsburgh. 'I was excited for A-Rod. I don't think I was too surprised,' Love said. 'I feel like there were a lot of rumors going on throughout the whole offseason about him going to the Steelers. I was excited for him, that he was obviously coming back and going to be playing. There were also some rumors that he might be done, so just knowing he's going to keep playing, that's pretty awesome.' But in Week Eight, Love is hoping to out-play Rodgers and earn the Packers a win over their longtime franchise quarterback.

Two former Wisconsin Badgers land on PFF's list of the NFL's top guards for 2025

A pair of former Wisconsin Badgers appeared on ProFootballFocus' recent list of the NFL's top 32 guards entering the 2025 season. Detroit Lions right guard Kevin Zeitler, a three-year Badger from 2009-11, and Buffalo Bills left guard David Edwards, who represented the Badgers from 2015-18, earned designations on the outlet's 32-man hierarchy. Advertisement Zeitler, a native of Waukesha, Wisconsin, landed at No. 9 on the list between Los Angeles Rams guard Kevin Dotson (No. 8) and San Francisco 49ers run-blocker Dominick Puni. The former Badger signed with the Detroit Lions ahead of the 2024 slate following his 2023 Pro Bowl campaign with the Baltimore Ravens. He's now entering his 14th professional campaign. In offensive coordinator Ben Johnson's scheme, Zeitler helped the Lions rush 534 times for 2,488 yards and 29 scores with David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs starring in the backfield. Zeitler started at right guard in all 16 of his appearances. Despite being one of the older players at his position, Zeitler is about as effective as anyone not named Joe Thuney, Chris Lindstrom, or Quenton Nelson. Here's PFF's analysis: "Although Zeitler enters 2025 at age 35, he continues to prove he isn't slowing down. In his lone season in Detroit, Zeitler earned his highest PFF overall grade (86.5) in a decade, finishing as the NFL's third-highest-graded guard. While his pass protection dipped a bit in 2024, his 87.2 PFF run-blocking grade stands as the best of his career." Meanwhile, PFF ranked Edwards down at No. 29. The 2019 First-team All-Big Ten team member has played six professional seasons with the Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills. Shortly after winning a Super Bowl with the Rams in 2021, the lineman joined the Bills in 2023 as a backup before starting all 16 games during the 2024 campaign. Advertisement With reigning MVP Josh Allen and dynamic rusher James Cook as primary ball-carriers, the Bills rushed for 2,230 yards and a league-best 32 touchdowns a season ago. Here's what PFF said about Edwards ahead of his third season in Buffalo: "2024 marked Edwards' first season in a starting role since 2021. He earned solid PFF overall grades, but really stood out as a zone blocker, recording a 78.1 PFF run-blocking grade on zone concepts — good for the 93rd percentile and the fifth-highest mark among qualifying guards." Zeitler's Lions will square off against the Packers on Sept. 7 to begin the season, while Edwards' Bills will play the Ravens the same day, beginning their quest for a second straight AFC Championship game appearance.
