[UPDATED] RMN speedboat crashes during Lima '25 rehearsal, no injuries reported

KUALA LUMPUR: No injuries were reported after a Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) speedboat lost control during a rehearsal for a maritime demonstration ahead of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (Lima '25).
In a statement, the RMN confirmed the incident and said that the crew involved had been taken to a nearby hospital for further medical examination as a precautionary measure.
"A board of inquiry will be convened to determine the exact cause of the incident," it said.
Earlier, a 22-second video related to the incident went viral on social media, capturing the moment a Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) speedboat collided with a moored vessel before careening onto the shore.
Meanwhile, Langkawi police chief Assistant Commissioner Shariman Ashari said that the incident occurred at 4.34pm.
He said the incident involved an RMN vessel carrying five personnel on a training exercise, and a civilian tourist boat that was anchored near the shoreline.
"Two security personnel have been referred to hospital for further examination, and no civilian injuries have been reported," he added.
Shariman said that as of now, the police had not received any official report regarding the incident.
"The public is urged not to speculate or circulate unverified information. Please await an official statement from the security forces for accurate details," he said.

"First and foremost, let us take a moment to reflect and recite Surah Al-Fatihah for the nine heroes of the Royal Malaysia Police from the Federal Reserve Unit Unit 5, Sungai Senam, who lost their lives in a road accident on May 13," Razarudin said.

'The Lima Operations Room received an emergency call via the land search and rescue team, informing them of a road accident involving five vehicles, namely a navy lorry and four cars. 'There were 30 victims involved, of whom five men and one woman sustained injuries. One of the victims suffered a neck injury,' he said in a statement yesterday, Bernama reported. He added that more than 40 officers and personnel from the police, navy, Malaysian Civil Defence Force and Health Ministry also assisted in the operation. The public is advised not to make any speculation that could interfere with the investigation,' it said.
