Director David Sandberg received death threats from fans after Shazam! Fury of the Gods release
Washington DC [US], April 27 (ANI): Director David F Sandberg has decided to never work on Intellectual Property (IP) based projects after receiving death threats and negative reactions from fans after the release of 'Shazam! Fury of the Gods', reported Variety.
In an interview with GamesRadar, Sandberg spoke candidly about his experience working on the 'Shazam!' sequel and how it drove him away from seeking out IP-based projects, at least temporarily.
The 'Lights Out' director revealed that he received death threats from the fans after the release of the 'Shazam' sequel. This paved the way for the director to think that "IP-based movies" are not worth his efforts.
"I mean, to be honest, fans can get very, very crazy and very angry with you, you can get, like, death threats and everything, so after 'Shazam 2,' I was like, 'I never wanna do another IP-based movie because it's just not worth it.'" said Sandberg as quoted by Variety.
After the sour experience with 'Shazam', director Sandberg landed on the script of his upcoming movie 'Until Dawn,' which he believes to be a "so good" script to pass.
"I was sent this script, and I was like, 'Ah, this would be so much fun to do, to do all these kinds of horrors? I kind of have to do it, and hope that the people see what we're trying to do and like it.' I really thought it was brilliant of the writers to come up with this time loop idea where the night starts over, because then you do kind of get that feel of the game, when you're replaying it and making different choices. I think it's very much in the spirit of the game," said Sanberg as quoted by Variety.
The movie is based on a video game of the same name.
As per the outlet, the "Until Dawn" video game was first released in 2015 and makes use of a 'butterfly effect' mechanism, forcing players to make spur-of-the-moment decisions that alter the course of history.
"What I loved about the script [is] that it wasn't trying to recreate the game. Trying to condense 10 hours into two, or something like that. But it is scary still, even though we're doing a new thing," Sandberg added as quoted by Variety.
Sandberg's 'Until Dawn' stars actors Ella Rubin and Michael Cimino in the lead roles. The film is currently in the theatres. (ANI)

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 1 (ANI): Actor Sanjay Dutt, on Sunday, paid a heartfelt tribute to his mother and legendary actress, Nargis Dutt, on her birth anniversary. Sanjay shared a series of pictures on his Instagram handle. The first one was a monochrome photo of Nargis, while the other was a throwback image of his mother, late father, and actor Sunil Dutt. In the caption, he wrote, 'Happy birthday maa, I miss you everyday and love you more.' Born on June 1, 1929, Nargis is widely known as one of the finest performers of all time, having acted in a variety of genres ranging from comedy to drama. She began her film career as a leading lady in the early 1940s and continued to perform until 1967. She made her final appearance in the psychological thriller film 'Raat Aur Din.'She made her screen debut in a minor role at the age of five with Talash-E-Haq (1935),[6] but her acting career actually began with the film Tamanna (1942). In the early '80s, Nargis was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and she died on May 3, 1981. Nargis and actor Sunil Dutt fell in love with each other after a fire broke out on the sets of their 1957 film 'Mother India', and he reportedly rescued were said to have come closer while recuperating from the injuries. The couple tied the knot on March 11, 1958. Her best-known role was that of Radha in the Academy Award-nominated Mother India (1957), a performance that won her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. She appeared infrequently in films during the 1960s. Some of her films of this period include the drama Raat Aur Din (1967), for which she received the inaugural National Film Award for Best Actress. Along with her husband, Nargis formed the Ajanta Arts Culture Troupe which hired several leading actors and singers of the time and held stage shows in border award for Best Feature Film on National Integration in the Annual Film Awards ceremony is called the Nargis Dutt Award in her honour. In the early 1970s, Nargis became the first patron of The Spastic Society of India and her subsequent work with the organisation brought her recognition as a social worker and later a Rajya Sabha nomination in 1980. Nargis Dutt was the second actor, the first being Prithvi Raj Kapoor, to be nominated, and she was in the Rajya Sabha for two years, 1980 and 1981. She was also awarded the Padma Shri in 1958. When asked if the film industry is conducive to new mothers like her, Radhika said, 'I don't think they are. I don't know how I'm going to navigate that going ahead.' This comes after reports of Deepika recently turning down Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Prabhas-starrer Spirit after her requests for an 8-hour workday and a better remuneration package weren't met. Ajay Devgn and Kajol publicly supported her, while Saif also advocated prioritising family time. Radhika claimed that it was difficult to balance her work and new motherhood, stating, 'It's really difficult to work in our film industry, given the number of hours and how we film generally, and the time for which we don't get to see the child. So I guess I'll just have to figure it out now.' The actor has been splitting her time between Mumbai and London for a while now, making it even more difficult. Radhika, who gave birth to a baby girl in December last year, opened up to ANI recently about the emotional highs and lows she has experienced. Shiva Rajkumar denies clapping for Kamal Haasan's Kannada remark as Thug Life release in Karnataka remains uncertain
Ever since actor Kamal Haasan remarked that Kannada was born out of Tamil while promoting his upcoming film Thug Life in Karnataka, he has caused a huge uproar in the state. Kannada actor Shiva Rajkumar, who also attended the promotional event, denies clapping when Kamal made this statement, even as a pro-Kannada outfit threatens theatres not to release Thug Life in the state. (Also Read: 'All Kamal Haasan films to be banned in Karnataka', says minister after actor refuses to apologise on Kannada remark row) Talking to the press, Shiva, who previously defended Kamal, made it clear that he does not agree with Kamal's statement about Kannada. He said, 'All the languages are important to us. But when it comes to the mother tongue, Kannada is the first priority, there's no doubt about that. I've said this before, I can give my life for Kannada. I should not tell that (Kamal Haasan must apologise). He is a senior actor, and I am the biggest fan of him.' He then clarified that many seem to be under the misconception that he showed support for Kamal's remark at the event by clapping when he said it. Shiva agrees he did clap, but it was for a different statement. He said, 'At the event, I did not understand what was going on. But they're showing clippings as if I'm clapping for that. I was clapping because he told, he was my chithappa (uncle).' According to ANI, a pro-Kannada organisation, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, warned the owners of Victory Cinema Theatre in Kamakshipalya, Bengaluru, not to release Mani Ratnam's Thug Life. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has also banned the film's release in Karnataka, asking the actor to apologise for his remarks. Praveen Shetty, who belongs to the organisation, told the news agency, 'Kamal Haasan has spoken against the Kannada language. We will not allow Kamal Haasan's film to be released in Karnataka. They said that the film will be released at the Victory Cinema. We came here today and told the theatre owners not to release Kamal Haasan's film. If the film is released, the government will be held responsible for any untoward incidents that follow.' Thug Life, which also stars Silambarasan TR and Trisha Krishnan in lead roles, is directed by Mani Ratnam. According to Sacnilk, Mani's previous film, Ponniyin Selvan—Part 1, earned ₹28.12 crore in Karnataka, while Part 2 made ₹22.55 crore in the state. After Tamil Nadu, Karnataka was the highest-earning state for both films. Kamal's Indian 2 made ₹8.55 crore there. The actor, however, has refused to apologise for his comment, telling the media, 'It is a democracy. I believe in law and justice. My love for Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala is true. Nobody will suspect it except for those who have an agenda. I've been threatened earlier too, and if I am wrong, I would apologise, if I'm not, I won't.'
