Navy truck involved in five-vehicle crash, six people injured
The Front Commander of the Langkawi International Aerospace and Maritime Exhibition (Lima'25) operations room for the Kedah Fire and Rescue Department, Senior Fire Superintendent I Ahmad Aminuddin Abd Rahim, said they received a call regarding the incident at 3pm on Friday (May 23) and arrived at the location five minutes later.
"The operations room received an emergency call via the land search and rescue (SAR) team, informing them of a road accident involving five vehicles, namely a navy lorry and four cars.
"There were 30 victims involved, of whom five men and one woman sustained injuries. One of the victims suffered a neck injury," he said in a statement on Friday.
He added that more than 40 officers and personnel from the police, Navy, Malaysian Civil Defence Force and Health Ministry assisted in the operation.
The Navy, in a statement, said that the three-ton truck carrying personnel for the Lima'25 maritime segment demonstration went out of control and skidded.
"There were no fatalities and all 25 personnel involved were taken to the maritime segment medical room for initial treatment. Two personnel were taken to Sultanah Maliha Hospital, Langkawi, for further treatment due to leg injuries.
"The Navy will establish a board of inquiry to determine the cause of the incident," it said.
Langkawi police chief Asst Comm Shariman Ashari confirmed the incident and said any further information would be announced later. – Bernama

Man arrested for setting fire to family home in Kedah
SUNGAI PETANI: A 39-year-old man has been arrested for setting fire to his family home in Sungai Lalang, Bedong, yesterday. The incident also destroyed a neighbouring house. Kuala Muda police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said the suspect, the complainant's younger brother, was detained shortly after the fire. "Initial investigations found that the suspect admitted to starting the blaze by lighting pieces of paper with a lighter inside the house. Earlier, firefighters rescued a man during the 7.52pm incident. Kedah Fire and Rescue Department Zone 2 chief Senior Fire Superintendent II Mohd Naim Mat Jaafar said the fire destroyed two houses before it was brought under control.

Langkawi cops arrest seven over counterfeit cash scam
ALOR SETAR: Police have arrested seven individuals, including two women, in connection with a counterfeit money scam involving fake RM100 notes used at several retail premises around Langkawi. Langkawi OCPD Asst Comm Shariman Ashari confirmed that authorities have received four reports of counterfeit RM100 notes being used in transactions at businesses in Chenang, Padang Matsirat, and Kuah. "Following the reports and tips from the public, police apprehended five men and two local women, aged between 24 and 36 years old, in two separate locations starting from 8.30pm yesterday," he said in a statement Sunday (Aug 17) night.
