13-year-old girl kidnapped in Prakasam dist over financial dispute, rescued

Vijayawada: A 13-year-old schoolgirl district was rescued by police after she was allegedly kidnapped in Chimakurthy of Prakasam over a financial dispute between her father and a person named R Eshwar Reddy (33). Eshwar Reddy abducted the girl and demanded money. Special teams tracked him using CCTV and vehicle checks, rescuing the child safely near Kavali in Nellore district. According to superintendent of plice (SP) A R Damodar, the eighth-grade student of Vidya Niketan School in Chimakurthy left campus around 12:30 pm after attending Independence Day celebrations. Outside the school, a man who was previously acquainted with her family when they lived in Tirupati allegedly lured the girl by offering to take her home and suggesting they pick up sweets, then left the area with her on a motorcycle. The SP said the suspect soon telephoned the girl's father, demanded repayment of money he claimed was owed, and threatened to harm the child if his demand was not met. The family approached Chimakurthy police station, after which senior officers were alerted. The SP constituted special teams across Prakasam and neighboring Nellore districts. All check posts were directed to conduct intensive vehicle checks, and Nellore police were put on alert. Using technical surveillance and CCTV footage, teams identified the motorcycle number and tracked movements along the corridor toward Tirupati. A team intercepted the vehicle near Kavali in Nellore district and safely rescued the child. The accused identified by police as Eshwar Reddy, from the Tirupati area—was taken into custody. Police registered a case and said further investigation is underway, including inquiries into the financial dispute alleged by the suspect. The SP stated that schools and parents have been urged to reinforce student safety measures, including educating children not to accept rides or approach unknown persons, and to promptly report any suspicious contact. Institutions were advised to ensure comprehensive CCTV coverage and cooperate with law enforcement during emergencies. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Peddler crashes car into median near Hyderabad, lands in police net with 16 kg ganja

1 2 3 4 5 6 Hyderabad: A ganja peddler was caught after he crashed his car into a road divider at Bata Singaram on the National Highway (NH) 65 on Friday night. The Abdullapurmet police reached the accident spot and discovered that the vehicle was loaded with ganja and seized 16 kg of the contraband. According to the Abdullapurmet police, the incident occurred at 9:22pm near the Nirmala Service Station at Bata Singaram. Blue plaques go missing from 3 heritage structures

1 2 Kolkata: Blue plaques, installed by KMC to indicate the heritage status of old structures in the city, have gone missing from three Grade I structures — two temples and a chapel — in the past month. The thefts were reported a month ago from Circular Road Baptist Chapel on AJC Bose Road near Nonapukur, Sabarna Roy Choudhury family's Dwadash Mandir and Sanjher Atchala temple—both in Behala—within five months of the plaques being installed at the heritage structures. KMC officials suspect drug addicts, selling metals for money, might have stolen the plaques. "We were informed about the thefts last month, and our team inspected the heritage sites and found the plaques indeed missing. We suspect that drug addicts might have stolen them," a senior official of KMC's heritage department told TOI. "We have informed police about the missing blue plaques." Circular Road Baptist Chapel founded in 1821 is in Ward 61. The heritage properties of the Sabarna Roy Choudhury family are on Sabarna Para Road in KMC's ward 126. But the plaques are yet to be reinstalled at the Behala temples. "We completed the blue plaque installation on heritage buildings in the city a few months ago. Tenders were floated for the procurement of the plaques, based on KMC's list of Grade I heritage buildings. Right now, we don't have extra blue plaques in stock. To get them, we will have to float a new tender, and the process will take some time," said a senior official. Dwadash Mandir—12 Shiva temples with a 'dol mancha' — was established in 1852 and in 1917, Barisha Girls' High School came up on its premises. The Roy Choudhury family also founded Sanjher Atchala temple in 1608. Devarshi Roy Choudhury, secretary of Sabarna Roy Choudhury Paribar Parishad, said, "Last month, we discovered that the plaques had disappeared from Dwadash Mandir and Sanjher Atchala temple. We alerted the KMC and requested officials to install them again. " Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
