Warriors could have perfect trade resolution to Jonathan Kuminga saga originally appeared on The Sporting News
The Golden State Warriors have struggled to find the right pieces through the draft in recent years, but they might be able to fix one of those issues.
Over the past few years, the Warriors have mostly been struggling to find consistent success. While their title run in 2022 was the culmination of the first post-Kevin Durant era moves, they haven't been able to find any real success since.
With a couple of disappointing second-round exits and a play-in loss in the three years since, the Warriors are coming to terms with some of their not-so-great decisions. One of Golden State's most questionable decisions in recent memory was selecting Jonathan Kuminga in the 2021 draft with the No. 7 pick.
However, as Jake Fischer recently revealed, Kuminga wasn't the Warriors' ideal target. Instead, the Warriors were hoping to land Josh Giddey, who went a pick earlier to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Fischer also noted recently that if there were any possibility of a Kuminga-Giddey swap, Golden State could be interested. Considering Kuminga's relationship with the Warriors is rather rocky, a sign-and-trade has been on the table all summer and would likely still be within reach if the right situation pops up.
However, this situation is probably nothing more than a hopeful dream from the Warriors' side. The Chicago Bulls have seemed committed to Giddey throughout the restricted free agency process, looking to work out a deal they view as reasonable after the Australian point guard had a solid first season in Chicago.

Carlos Rodón avoids ‘disaster' to pitch seven-inning gem in Yankees' win

Try it free The bases were loaded three batters into the game, but Carlos Rodón dug in and went to work from there. The Twins scored just one run in that first inning on an infield out, and Rodón retired 17 consecutive batters into the sixth to front the Yankees to a 9-1 victory Tuesday night over Minnesota at the Stadium. The All-Star lefty permitted just one hit — a leadoff single by Austin Martin to start the game — over seven stifling innings to improve to 12-7 in 25 starts this season. 'We were set up for disaster there, but we got through it,' Rodón said after the game. 'We pushed one across [in the bottom half], and it was like a 0-0 game for me and I just wanted to put up a shut down inning [in the second]. 'Offensively we were able to swing the bats and put up nine runs, and that made it easier for me to fill up the zone and just attack hitters.' Aaron Judge, Anthony Volpe and Giancarlo Stanton went deep in support of Rodón, who completed at least six innings for the first time in five outings since July 11, his final start before the All-Star Game. Rodón needed 31 pitches to navigate the opening frame, but no more than 13 in any inning thereafter. Carlos Rodón allowed just one run over seven innings in the Yankees' 9-1 blowout win over the Twins on Aug. 12, 2025. Corey Sipkin / New York Post 'Not really expecting [to go seven] after 31 pitches in the first, but baseball's a funny game,' Rodón added. Martin opened the game for the Twins with a single to center, and Rodón proceeded to walk Byron Buxton and to hit Ryan Jeffers with a pitch to load the bases before recording an out. Corey Sipkin / New York Post But the $162 million lefty whiffed Luke Keaschall for the first out and Kody Clemens for the third around a run-scoring infield out by Royce Lewis. The Yankees quickly recouped that run on Judge's first homer in seven games since returning from the injured list, and they went up 4-1 on Volpe's three-un shot one inning later. Rodón took it from there, not allowing another base runner until walking Jeffers with two outs in the sixth and no other hits until Tim Hill replaced him with a 7-1 lead to start the eighth. 'It's one of those like, is he gonna get out of the first inning? That's where your mind is for a minute,' Aaron Boone said. 'But he gets the big strikeout and gets the ground ball and it's like, 'Hey, we got a chance to limit damage here.' Then he just settled in and I really thought it looked a lot different, even in the second. Really big effort by him to be able to give us seven innings after a 30-plus pitch first inning, when it's looking like it's going to be rough. It was really big.'

Rockets' Kevin Durant Facing Significant Pay Cut in Next Contract

Rockets' Kevin Durant Facing Significant Pay Cut in Next Contract originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It is not likely that anyone will be shedding a tear for newly minted Rockets star Kevin Durant as he heads into the final year of his contract, a deal that paid him $195 million in total and will give him $54 million in its fourth and final year. Durant is getting old, no doubt, with his 37th birthday looming next month, but no one is expecting to see him in the bread line anytime soon. But there has been new speculation around what, exactly, Durant can expect from his next deal, whether it is an extension with Houston or a new contract in free agency next summer. It's unlikely he wants to go to unrestricted free agency in the summer--most of the teams with cap space are rebuilding outfits--but Durant if he works out a new deal with the Rockets, it is unlikely it will be for a max deal. How much would it be? Well, NBC Sports' Kurt Helin cites a source giving some parameters: "One source who spoke to NBC Sports during Summer League suggested KD might dip to about the $100 million mark for two years, around $10 million a season below the max but still $50 million a season. " Kevin Durant Not a Certainty for a Rockets Extension That's a pay cut, a rarity for a player of Durant's caliber at a time when the NBA salary cap consistently is on the rise. Durant has averaged 26 or more points every year for the last seven seasons, and gets his points efficiently--he's a career 50.2% shooting who makes 39.0% of his 3s. But it's not all that much of a cut, and if Durant is willing to take a short deal, he can likely remain near the NBA max, even if below it. From this week's "Hoops Collective" podcast with ESPN NBA reporters, Tim MacMahon said, "By all appearances and by what I've heard, they're not going all in on an extension for Kevin Durant. Now, doesn't mean it won't happen, but there've been rumblings of KD not going to push for the full max. I don't know that the Rockets are going to put anything on the table that's close to the max.' Now, $50 million per year is close to the max the Rockets could offer on a per-year basis, and they could well agree to that. But they're not going to extend Durant for much longer than two years. Another early-season Lakers game has been leaked

The full NBA schedule for the 2025-26 season will be released this Thursday, Aug. 14. In the meantime, there have been a few leaks as far as marquee matchups that will be on the schedule. The Los Angeles Lakers will be hosting Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors in their first regular-season game, which will be on Oct. 21. Then, on Christmas Day, they will face Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets at Arena. Sean Cunningham, a reporter for KCRA, Sacramento's NBC affiliate, posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the Lakers will visit the Sacramento Kings on Sunday, Oct. 26. The Kings have mostly been a bad or mediocre team for almost two decades, although they have improved over the last three seasons. They made major changes dating back to last summer, starting with their acquisition of veteran wing DeMar DeRozan and that three-team trade in February that sent De'Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs while netting them Zach LaVine. They likely won't make the playoffs or perhaps even the play-in tournament this coming season. However, with studs such as DeRozan, LaVine and Domantas Sabonis, as well as former Laker guards Malik Monk and Dennis Schroder, the Kings are a team the Lakers cannot ever take lightly.
