Chiefs looking at Toyota Cup to build team spirit
Chiefs will continue to intensify their preparations for next season when they face Asante Kotoko of Ghana in the Toyota Cup at Moses Mabhida on Saturday (3pm).
The results didn't go their way as they lost four games and won one. But that didn't matter as coach Nasreddine Nabi was pleased with the lessons learned.
Chiefs recently returned from a two-week pre-season tour of the Netherlands where they tested themselves against Dutch outfits.
Kaizer Chiefs' midfielder Thabo Cele has lifted the lid on the team's camaraderie and their chances of change of fortunes ahead of the upcoming Premier Soccer League season.
Cele, who was speaking to Chiefs' media following a rousing welcome at King Shaka International Airport Thursday afternoon, explained what it meant to be back on home soil.
'It's a lot to dissect within a minute,' Cele said 'I'd say for me since I came back, it's been a blessed journey. We are looking forward for things to come as a team and as individuals.
'So, to be back at home, it's always a special feeling. The love I get here, I can't explain it. It's just something for the heart.
'It just drives you to go further, and do more - seek ways to do more. Coming from the Netherlands pre-season, there's togetherness and we want to fight.'
Chiefs' army has been boosted by the club following the arrival of six players during the ongoing winter transfer window.
These include Ethan Chislett, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Paseka Mako, Thabiso Monyane, Flavio Silva, and Nkanyiso Shinga.
Having only Chislett, Monyane, Silva and Shinga flown out with the team to the Netherlands, Cele has described what it felt like to link up with Ndlovu and Mako as well.
'It was important for the new guys to come in,' Cele said. 'We know that they are going to add value to our team, and we need them.
'I feel like they also understand the mission at hand. I feel there's positivity in the team, and it's not fake positivity. It's real!
'In the Netherlands, we played some difficult games and got tested. Through being tested is where you become a team, so in those tests we become together more.
'We talk among ourselves about the mission of this season, so we know. So like l said, it's about every 90 minutes and getting those three points.'

Pirates and Sundowns both successfully progressed through the quarter-finals of the MTN8 over the weekend, while Chiefs fans watched on with envy as their side did not qualify after finishing outside the top eight for a second season in a row. Now, the Betway Premiership kicks off this weekend in earnest with Sundowns in action first at 3pm on Saturday away to Chippa United. Pirates begin their campaign at 5.30pm at home as they welcome Sekhukhune United. Chiefs have to wait until Sunday to travel to Stellenbosch FC in a 5.30pm kick-off.

'Not what we're looking for' – Nabi on Kaizer Chiefs linked foreign striker
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has shared his thoughts on the club potentially signing former TS Galaxy star Dzenan Zajmovic. The Bosnian striker scored eight goals in 25 matches for the Rockets last season. In recent weeks, he was linked with a move to the Chiefs, but has since refuted reports that he was in contact with the Soweto giants. Nabi has confirmed the striker's statement, saying the player might not be what Kaizer Chiefs is looking for. 'I don't want to start about the striker from Galaxy. I don't know if he is in the vision of the club. I also don't know if his administrative problem is finished,' he told the media. 'I don't know. But if we have the opportunity to recruit him, particularly if he has residence automatically, yes. 'The window is not closed. I think if you have opportunities, our scouting team will do the work. If you have a good opportunity, then why not? 'But I want a player with more qualities than I have. I don't want a player with the same quality,' Nabi concluded. Kaizer Chiefs made six signings this season, but only one of them is a striker. With Ranga Chivaviro released, Amakhosi need a top striker to assist the new man, Flavio Silva and also Ashley Du Preez. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. Barker ‘excited' about his squad as Stellies welcome Chiefs in league opener
There can be few people looking forward to the start of the 2025-26 campaign more than Steve Barker, the irrepressible, 57-year-old coach of Stellenbosch FC. This is despite Stellies having to almost rebuild their team every season with the big Gauteng clubs snapping up many of Barker's gems produced by his club's excellent scouting and academy. In recent seasonss Barker, who has been with Stellies since their promotion seven seasons ago, has lost players such as Ashley du Preez to Kaizer Chiefs, Deano van Rooyen and Sihle Nduli to Orlando Pirates and Iqraam Rayners and Jayden Adams, who were recently joined by left back Fawaaz Basadien at Mamelodi Sundowns. Centreback Tylon Smith, the 20-yearold who was player of the tournament as Amajita win the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations this year and who was expected to shine at Stellies in the coming season, was sold to English championship side Queens Park Rangers.
