Nickelodeon Star Reveals Alleged Maternal Abuse
True Jackson V.P. actor Ashley Argota Torres is opening up about the alleged "physical, emotional, and financial abuse" she faced from her mother while filming the show, and shortly after. During a recent interview with People, the former Nickelodeon child star spoke candidly about struggling behind the scenes, detailing the way her mother allegedly tried to control her every move. "I'm a mom now, so I feel like I have a new perspective and a new outlook on everything," said Ashley, who shares 13-month-old son Michael with husband Mick Torres. "I would never do to my son what my mom did to me." Ashley said her mom's abuse took a new turn when she started filming the popular 2008 teen series, especially when she began to make friends with cast members and others in the industry. "I was starting to make friends and getting close to my cast, so I think she felt her control and her manipulation starting to slip." If she got invited to birthday parties or to hang out with friends, she claims her mother would insist on going with her or waiting in the car. Ashley claims her mother would also frequently criticize her physical appearance: "I would have to sit there and pinch the bridge of my nose all the time because she was like, 'Your nose is too flat, so you need to pinch your nose to make sure it's not flat.'" Ashley recalled earning "a lot of money" from True Jackson V.P., but she claims she never knew how much money she actually made because her mother had full and total control of her finances, including her Coogan account (an account specifically created to protect child performers' earnings). "No matter how much was put away in my Coogan account, she would've spent it. I don't know where that Coogan money went. I was 15, so I totally trusted her with all of the finances. She would say, 'All right, this is the bill, and this is how much you're going to input into the computer, and this is what we're going to pay,' but I never knew how much was on my accounts." As her time on the show came to an end, Ashley got accepted into NYU. She remembered having to sign up for a dorm assignment in secret because her mother told her she could only live at home or with family. Her time at college was the "greatest thing ever" for her because even though her mother would constantly check in, she felt relieved knowing her mom wasn't physically around. But while she was at NYU, Ashley claims her mother decided to buy a new home in LA using Ashley's money. "I just got this video of her with the key to the new house," she said. Then when she returned home during break after her first year in school, she received a letter from her mom saying they couldn't afford to send her back for her sophomore year. "She wrote me a letter that she left in my room that said, 'We don't have enough money. You're not going back to school. You're going to stay home.' We never spoke about it again." But it didn't stop there. There was also an alleged incident that involved Ashley's mom going through her text messages while Ashley was in the shower. Her mom read texts she'd been sending to a co-star she went on a date with from the Romeo & Juliet: Love Is A Battlefield cast. Ashley claims her mother then made her strip, so she could examine her body. "When I got home, she told me to come to her room, and I did, and she asked me to take off the cardigan I was wearing," Ashley added. "I said, 'Why?' She said, 'Because I need to see what he did to you.' I was like, 'Whoa, what? I just went to the movies with him.'" "Then she kept telling me to take off the tank top," she claims. "I was like, 'I'm not going to do that.' She was like, 'You have to quit the show.' I said, 'I'm not going to quit the show. It's not going to happen.' "Out of nowhere, she lunged for me," she continued. "She choked me, she attacked me. It gave me a vocal node, because she had come at me so aggressively. I'd never had a vocal problem in my life until that happened. In that moment I was like, 'I don't know if having a relationship with her is the right thing anymore.'" Ashley left her family home at age 22 and never looked back. Although she revealed she's heard from her mom several times, "usually when something is going well in my life," her mom has not met her son or husband, and she plans to continue "no contact" moving forward. "In addition to blocking my mom, I've had to block my brother's number as well, because she takes his phone," Ashley added. "It's difficult, and I wish things were different there. I hope one day we can have a relationship. I feel like he was caught in the crossfire, and he doesn't deserve that." "My life is so enriched by all of my chosen family. I have so many people around me who really do show us unconditional love. Motherhood has been so healing for me. I mean, down to the features that Michael has of mine, like my nose, I'm like, 'Man, you're so cute. Why did she ever tell me to pinch my nose?'" Cruiserweight Jake Paul and lightweight Gervonta Davis announce they will fight on Nov. 14
ATLANTA (AP) — YouTuber-turned-cruiserweight boxer Jake Paul and undefeated WBA lightweight champion Gervonta 'Tank' Davis have agreed to fight on Nov. 14 at Atlanta's State Farm Arena. Paul's promotional company, Most Valuable Promotions, and Netflix announced the highly unusual matchup Wednesday. Netflix will stream the fight worldwide to its more than 300 million subscribers. The 30-year-old Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs), a three-division world champion, would be the first star near his ostensible prime to face Paul (12-1, 7 KOs), the online celebrity who has become one of the world's highest-paid combat sports athletes despite never fighting an elite boxer. Netflix and Nakisa Bidarian, Paul's business partner, did not refer to the fight as an exhibition, but it's unclear how Georgia officials would allow the matchup to be held as a competitive bout, given the fighters' dramatic difference in size and experience. Paul typically weighs more than 200 pounds in the ring, while Davis is a 135-pound champion who has never fought above 140 pounds. The fighters did not announce a contracted weight or the number of rounds in their planned bout. The fight would mark a return to Netflix for the 28-year-old Paul, whose victory last November over the then-58-year-old Mike Tyson drew an estimated 108 million viewers globally. After Paul beat a tepid Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. by decision earlier this summer, he entered the World Boxing Association's cruiserweight rankings at No. 14, making him eligible to fight for world titles. Bidarian said Paul and Davis are 'favorites of the Gen Z and Gen Alpha audiences,' and that their bout will 'determine the true face of boxing's next generation.'

Restaurant owner speaks out after car smashes through window where food creators were filming
A Texas restaurant is open for business again after a vehicle came crashing through the eatery over the weekend. The incident occurred at around 4 p.m. on Saturday at Cuvee Culinary Creations in Houston, according to restaurant owner Ivory Watkins. Two content creators who were dining at the establishment narrowly missed being struck by the vehicle, unintentionally capturing shocking footage of the moment, which the restaurant later shared on its Instagram page. Nina Santiago, known online as Nina Unrated, was filming her YouTube series, "Nina Unrated Eats," alongside fellow content creator Patrick Blackwood when a driver in an SUV plowed through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows where they were seated, knocking over the table and scattering the dishes directly in front of them, according to the video footage. In the video, fellow patrons and restaurant staff can be seen in the background looking on in shock as Santiago and Blackwood scramble out of their seats. Santiago wrote in an Instagram post afterward that she was "beyond grateful to be alive." She shared several photos from inside an ambulance and the hospital where she and Blackwood were apparently treated for their injuries, which show cuts on their faces, necks, arms and hands. Santiago and Blackwood did not immediately respond to ABC News' requests for comment. Watkins described the incident as "a freak accident," telling ABC News he had just walked away from Santiago and Blackwood's table seconds prior to the moment of impact. "I was looking at my two customers and thinking, 'What is going on? This is crazy,'" he recalled. "We never know what God has in store for us -- I'm glad they're safe." Watkins said he called 911 as soon as the incident occurred, adding that the manager of the restaurant was quick to tend to Santiago and Blackwood in the immediate aftermath and helped provide care for their cuts and scrapes until paramedics arrived on the scene. Watkins said "police came out and did their due diligence" and a report was filed by the Harris County Sheriff's Office. The owner apologized for the incident, saying, "My job at my restaurant is to keep my guests safe. I fell short." "We were glad that we didn't have any more guests [at the time of the crash]," he added. "The main thing is everybody is safe." The restaurant's windows are currently boarded up, however Watkins was able to reopen for service on Sunday. He said the establishment has new safety measures in place, including two company vehicles and two employee vehicles that are parked in the parking spaces in front of the restaurant's window seating.
