Tennessee forces game three over Nebraska following 3-2 Saturday battle
The No. 19 Nebraska softball team (43-14) needed one more win against No. 7 Tennessee (44-15) to punch its ticket to the College World Series on Saturday. But the Volunteers denied the Huskers the ticket, forcing a game three with a 3-2 victory.
Both teams scored two runs in the opening frame but then grew quiet in the batter's box for the next six innings. Tennessee managed to break the tie in the third, earning an RBI off a sacrifice fly to make it 3-2.
Nebraska managed to get the tying run to third base and the winning run at second base with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. But the Vols didn't falter, spoiling the Huskers' perfect run.
Jordyn Bahl, Samantha Bland, Hannah Camenzind, Bella Bacon and Emmerson Cope accounted for all of Nebraska's on the night, each delivering one. Camenzind earned two RBIs off her lone hit, striking a two-run RBI single in the first.
Bahl (26-7) suffered her first career NCAA Tournament loss on the night, throwing a complete game for the Huskers. She struck out six batters and allowed four hits and three runs.
Nebraska now enters its second-ever winner-take-all Super Regional game in program history. The last time the Huskers faced a game three in the Super Regional, they defeated the Oregon Ducks to qualify for the College World Series. Game three is set for Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. (CT) on ESPN.

Pitcher NiJaree Canady signed her second seven-figure NIL deal with Texas Tech, keeping her on campus through her senior season. On Friday, Canady's manager, Derrick Shelby of Prestige Management, told ESPN about her new deal with Texas Tech's Matador Club collective. The Topeka, Kansas, native signed a historic deal in 2024 that included $1 million in direct payments and $50,000 for living expenses after transferring from Stanford. The details of her new deal were not disclosed. "Nija Canady is the most electrifying player in softball. She's box office and she goes out every day and competes," Shelby told ESPN. "The decision to stay at Tech was not difficult. This program has taken care of her. They have showed how much she is appreciated. The entire staff, her teammates, the school in general have been great. Tonight she is playing for a national championship and she is making history. Everything she wants from this game she can get here at Texas Tech." Canady is now in her third straight College World Series after leading Stanford to back-to-back appearances as a Cardinal. She posted a 0.97 ERA during the regular season, and has been a stalwart for the Red Raiders on the mound this WCWS. The 6-foot and 3-inch, 210-pound younger Witten earned an offer from Clemson Wednesday after showcasing his skills at the Dabo Swinney football camp. Witten moves with ease and has run a 10.91-second 100 meters. His elite closing speed and football instincts make him one of the premiere defenders in his class.
