Former Ohio State star wide receiver hired by in-state college
Former Ohio State and Pittsburgh Steelers star wide receiver Santonio Holmes is getting into the college coaching ranks.
According to a social media post by an in-state HCBU school, Central State, Holmes is joining the coaching staff as the wide receivers coach. It's quite the splashy hire for the Mauraders and something to keep an eye on as Holmes looks to move up the coaching ladder after jumping in for the first time.
Even the casual football fan should know about the playing days of Holmes. He had quite the career for the Buckeyes, hauling in 140 passes for 2,295 yards and 25 touchdowns during his OSU career that spanned from 2003 through 2005. He was a First team All-Big Ten performer in 2005 and went on to be selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the 2006 NFL draft where he blossomed into a deep play threat.
The pinnacle of Holmes' career is no doubt being awarded MVP for Super Bowl XLIII when he clinched the Steelers' sixth Super Bowl win with a six-yard catch from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger en route to a 27-23 win over the Arizona Cardinals. He finished the game with 131 yards receiving on nine catches, including the iconic touchdown catch.
Holmes was traded to the Jets in 2010, and played in New York until 2014 when he signed a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears, but was ultimately released in season, ending his NFL playing career. Now, he'll give it a go on the sidelines and we have little doubt that he'll be successful.

Caitlin Clark Surpassed as WNBA MVP Betting Favorite

Caitlin Clark Surpassed as WNBA MVP Betting Favorite originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Even as she sits on the bench, missing multiple games due to injury, Caitlin Clark remains the center of attention in the WNBA. Clark last saw game action on May 24, a 90-88 loss to the reigning WNBA champion, New York Liberty. She was then diagnosed with a strained left quadriceps, requiring approximately two weeks of recovery. Advertisement The Indiana Fever continued to lose their next two games before picking up their first win without Clark against the Washington Mystics 85-76 on Tuesday. While the Fever were in the midst of winning their third game of the season, Clark and her betting fans received unfortunate news. As per @PolymarketSport on X, Clark was surpassed as the favorite to win the WNBA MVP award this season. The new frontrunner to win the award is now the Minnesota Lynx', Napheesa Collier. Collier's odds are now minus-160, becoming the overwhelming favorite. Collier has emerged as one the WNBA's most consistent, talented players. She finished as the runner-up in MVP voting last season to A'ja Wilson. Advertisement Collier and the Lynx are playing as well as any player and team in the league right now, and were active on Tuesday night as well. Collier finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, and one block during the Lynx' 88-65 win over the Phoenix Mercury. The Lynx remain one of only two undefeated teams in the WNBA at 8-0. The Liberty are the other undefeated team, sitting sit at 7-0. New York Liberty Remain Undefeated With Historic Win Against Washington Mystics

New York Liberty Remain Undefeated With Historic Win Against Washington Mystics originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The defending WNBA champion, New York Liberty continue to pace the league. After taking down the Washington Mystics 86-78 on Thursday night, the Liberty remain undefeated. They now sit at 8-0 on the season, tied for the best record in the WNBA with the Minnesota Lynx. Advertisement The Liberty seek to become just the fourth team in WNBA history to win back-to-back championships. While their roster consists of multiple MVP candidates, they win with a balanced attack. Their franchise's recent accomplishments also rival the best New York has to offer in the sports world. With a city that dons multiple professional teams in nearly every sport, the Liberty are the most recent to win a championship. As deep as New York sports history runs, the Liberty stand as the only team to hoist a championship trophy in more than a decade. The New York Giants are a distant second, last winning a Super Bowl in 2012. With that in mind, the Liberty's 8-0 start to this season is not only impressive, it's down right historic. As per @statmuse on X, the Liberty are the first professional New York basketball team to start a season 8-0. In the history of professional basketball (NBA, ABA, and WNBA), no team has ever gotten off to a start like the Liberty. Advertisement Statistically speaking, the Liberty are the best team in the WNBA this season on both sides of the ball. The Liberty's offense leads the league in points per game (91.1). Their defense leads the league in points allowed (72.1). And they also lead the league in field goal percentage (48.6) as well as blocks per game (5.7). New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu (20) celebrates with forward Breanna Stewart (30), guard Natasha Cloud (9) and center Jonquel Jones (35) after getting fouled on a made basket in the fourth quarter against the Las Vegas Aces at Barclays Center. Mandatory Credit: Wendell Cruz-Imagn Images The Liberty's chance to remain undefeated and move to 9-0 comes on Tuesday when they take on Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. EDT on ESPN. Pitt Football Defense Preview 2025: The Panther Pass Rush Will Dominate

It's the Pitt defense. You know how this pass rush will be otherworldly, with the plays behind the line coming from everywhere. Pitt was sixth in the nation in sacks and fourth in tackles for loss.
