Former Ohio State star wide receiver hired by in-state college
Former Ohio State and Pittsburgh Steelers star wide receiver Santonio Holmes is getting into the college coaching ranks.
According to a social media post by an in-state HCBU school, Central State, Holmes is joining the coaching staff as the wide receivers coach. It's quite the splashy hire for the Mauraders and something to keep an eye on as Holmes looks to move up the coaching ladder after jumping in for the first time.
Even the casual football fan should know about the playing days of Holmes. He had quite the career for the Buckeyes, hauling in 140 passes for 2,295 yards and 25 touchdowns during his OSU career that spanned from 2003 through 2005. He was a First team All-Big Ten performer in 2005 and went on to be selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the 2006 NFL draft where he blossomed into a deep play threat.
The pinnacle of Holmes' career is no doubt being awarded MVP for Super Bowl XLIII when he clinched the Steelers' sixth Super Bowl win with a six-yard catch from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger en route to a 27-23 win over the Arizona Cardinals. He finished the game with 131 yards receiving on nine catches, including the iconic touchdown catch.
Holmes was traded to the Jets in 2010, and played in New York until 2014 when he signed a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears, but was ultimately released in season, ending his NFL playing career. Now, he'll give it a go on the sidelines and we have little doubt that he'll be successful.

NFL insider provides injury update on Falcons RT Kaleb McGary
McGary was carted off the field during Wednesday's practice due to a leg injury. According to a report from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Atlanta Falcons will be without right tackle Kaleb McGary for some time. McGary was carted off during Wednesday's practice due to a leg injury. The team had McGary get an MRI after practice and despite there being no official update, most expected the former first-round pick to miss time. While there is no current timetable for a return date, Fowler said McGary will be out of the lineup. "Kaleb McGary will miss time on the apparent leg injury suffered Wednesday, per source, who added the exact timetable was not immediately known, but for now he's out of the lineup," Fowler wrote on Twitter. Backup offensive tackle Storm Norton is dealing with an injury of his own. According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, Norton underwent an ankle surgery and is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks. When healthy, the Falcons have one of the NFL's best offensive lines, but there isn't a ton of depth behind the starting five. Seventh-round pick Jack Nelson is one option, although the rookie lacks the NFL experience to be Michael Penix Jr.'s blind-side protector. The Falcons can get a good look at some of their reserve offensive linemen during Friday night's preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys.
