WWE Women's United States Champion Zelina Vega has revealed she had little notice before her title victory. She was informed of the decision just before the show.
In an exclusive interview with WrestleStar, Vega confirmed the title change was a last-minute decision. She was told about one or two hours before the show began.
Zelina Vega On The Victory
Vega explained that it was a very busy day for her personally. Her main focus was on the return of her husband, Malakai Black, which took place on the same night.
"Probably about an hour or so, maybe two, before the show started," Vega said. "So it was pretty close."
She said the reality of the win did not set in until right before broadcast. Her focus was split between her match and her husband's return.
"I think that because I was so focused on my husband's return... it didn't actually come to, 'oh yeah, by the way, you're winning' until, like, maybe an hour or two before the show started," she stated.

Zelina Vega's Career-Defining Singles Championship
Vega won the championship on the April 25, 2025, episode of SmackDown. She defeated the inaugural champion, Chelsea Green, to capture the title.
This marked her first-ever singles championship win in WWE. It was a career-defining moment for the former Queen's Crown tournament winner.
Before her singles success, Vega first made a name for herself as a manager for Andrade. She also held the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship with Carmella.
While she did not win a tournament to become the inaugural Women's United States Champion, she achieved a career-defining moment on the April 25, 2025, episode of SmackDown. On that night, she defeated the first-ever champion, Chelsea Green, to capture the title.
This marked her first singles championship win in WWE. As the reigning champion, she continues to be a prominent star on the SmackDown brand, most recently entering a feud with the debuting Giulia.
Before she was Zelina Vega, she competed in TNA from 2011 to 2013 under the name Rosita. She debuted as the storyline cousin of fellow wrestler Sarita, and the two immediately formed a successful heel tag team.
Their biggest accomplishment came when they defeated Angelina Love and Winter to win the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championship. Later in their run, she and Sarita joined the Mexican-American faction led by Hernandez. While she gained valuable experience, her TNA tenure primarily featured her in this tag team role, a starting point for the prominent managerial and singles career she would later forge in WWE.

Karrion Kross Makes First Post-WWE Move

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Just days after their WWE contracts officially expired, Karrion Kross and Scarlett have been announced for their first post-WWE appearance. The booking at a major independent convention seems to be the strongest evidence yet that their departure from the company is legitimate. The Big Event NY announced on Wednesday night that Kross and Scarlett will appear at their EXS Entertainment x Sports Expo. The event will take place on Saturday, November 15, in Brentwood, New York. First Post-WWE Booking Announced The appearance at one of the biggest autograph shows in the Northeast is the first step in a new chapter for the duo. It comes after a chaotic week of conflicting reports and public statements that left their future in question. This news broke just hours after Kross gave a tell-all interview to Ariel Helwani. In that conversation, Kross provided a detailed, blow-by-blow account of his failed contract negotiations with WWE. The Plot Thickens In the interview, Kross confirmed that his contract expired on August 10th. He stated that he was not given a contract offer until last week, and when he asked for the data behind the company's valuation, the offer was rescinded after a 24-hour deadline. WWE/Getty Images Despite the messy exit, Kross maintained that he and Scarlett still want to return to WWE. This, combined with WWE's recent history of "worked shoot" storylines like the one with R-Truth, has led many fans to believe that his departure is all part of an elaborate angle. More news: WWE Superstar Announces Retirement Match Is The "Work" Finally Over? This new, independent booking is the first concrete evidence that Kross and Scarlett are truly free agents. WWE typically does not allow contracted talent, even those involved in a storyline, to be advertised for unaffiliated convention appearances. While a small chance of a swerve always remains, this booking suggests that Kross's departure is indeed real. Kross and Scarlett were officially moved to the alumni section of this past Sunday. As two of the hottest free agents in wrestling, promotions like AEW and TNA are now expected to make offers to the former two-time NXT Champion and his wife. Their appearance at The Big Event in November will be a highly anticipated one for their dedicated fanbase. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports.

John Cena Shuts Down WWE Rumor Ahead Of Retirement Match

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. As his legendary career winds down, John Cena has revealed how his final opponent will be chosen, and the answer is simple: he will not be the one to choose. Appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the 17-time world champion reiterated his career-long philosophy of letting WWE decide his path, even for his final match. Cena, who is in the midst of his 2025 farewell tour, confirmed that he has just 11 dates left before he hangs up his boots for good. His last match is expected to take place in Boston this December. John Cena: "I've Never Operated Like That" When host Jimmy Fallon asked if he had a final opponent in mind, Cena was definitive in his response. He explained that he has never hand-picked his opponents and will not start now, as his goal is to serve the business. "No, no. I've never operated like that," Cena said. "My goal has always been to leave WWE better than I found it. So whoever they deem appropriate to get that energy, man, I'm cool with that." The Ultimate WWE Man Cena's philosophy is a perfect example of the "company man" reputation he has built over two decades. As the face of WWE, he was known for his incredible work ethic and his willingness to do whatever was asked of him, both in and out of the ring. Photo byThis stance is highly unusual for a legend of his stature on a retirement tour, a time when most icons would be hand-picking a "greatest hits" of dream opponents. Cena's humble approach is a testament to the professionalism that made him the top star for so long. Making Way For A New WWE Generation Cena also explained that a major reason for his retirement is his desire to not take screen time away from the next generation of superstars. He recalled his own early days in 2002, when he was a "young, hungry" kid looking for a chance to make an impact. More news: WWE Superstar Announces Retirement Match "I think if I hang around any longer than now, I'm just taking time away from those young guys who can be the next chance to make an impact," he said. "It's time, man. It's time." John Cena's Legendary Final Stretch While Cena may not be choosing his opponents, WWE is ensuring his farewell tour is a legendary one. His next major match is scheduled for the Clash in Paris premium live event on August 31, where he will face the current United States Champion, Logan Paul. Following that, he is slated to headline a new premium live event in Indianapolis on September 20. At that show, he will write the final chapter in his rivalry with the returning Brock Lesnar. Frieren: Beyond Journey's End season 2 – Release date speculation, cast updates and plot details

By Aman Shukla Published on August 14, 2025, 20:00 IST Last updated August 14, 2025, 14:14 IST Ever since Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 1 left everyone in tears and awe, fans have been itching for Season 2. The anime's mix of heart-wrenching moments, gorgeous animation, and a fresh spin on fantasy hooked millions. So, what's the deal with Season 2? Let's dive into the latest on the release date, cast, plot, and everything else buzzing around this epic series. Buckle up—this is gonna be a ride! When Can We Expect Frieren Season 2? Waiting for Frieren Season 2 feels like an eternity, doesn't it? Good news: Crunchyroll spilled the beans that the show's coming back in January 2026, kicking off the winter anime season with a bang. No exact date yet, but fans are betting on a Friday drop, likely January 2 or 9, since that's when anime tends to hit. Who's in the Cast for Season 2? The characters in Frieren are what make it so special, and the voice actors behind them are absolute gems. While the full cast list isn't locked in yet, the heavy hitters are expected to return, bringing back the magic of Season 1. Here's who's likely stepping back into the spotlight: Atsumi Tanezaki as Frieren, our timeless elf mage who's still learning what it means to feel. After some health scares earlier this year, word is she's doing better and ready to shine. Kana Ichinose as Fern, the badass apprentice who's now a First-Class Mage and stealing scenes left and right. Chiaki Kobayashi as Stark, the sweet warrior who's got Fern's back and fans' hearts. Nobuhiko Okamoto as Himmel, the hero whose flashbacks hit like a truck. Hiroki Tochi as Heiter, the priest with a knack for tugging heartstrings. Yoji Ueda as Eisen, the dwarf mentor who ties into Stark's story. Word from Anime Expo 2025 is that new characters are joining the crew, stirring up the group's vibe. Producer Yuichiro Fukushi teased some fresh faces, and fans are already buzzing about who they might be. With Madhouse at the helm, expect the animation to match the cast's emotional firepower. What's the Story Gonna Be? Season 1 of Frieren covered about 60 chapters of Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe's manga, ending with Fern acing the First-Class Mage Exam. That left Frieren, Fern, and Stark ready to head into the Northern Plateau, but Frieren's 1,000-year ban from the Magic Association is gonna make things spicy. Season 2 will likely pick up from chapter 61, kicking off with the Continued Northern Travels arc and maybe stretching to the Goddess' Monument arc (up to chapter 119), matching Season 1's 28-episode, 60-chapter pace. What's coming? Picture Frieren's crew facing off against a demon in the Divine Revolte arc, tearing through a village in the Rufen Region. Then there's the Golden Land arc, which is gonna hit hard with ties to Frieren's past. The story will keep blending present-day quests with those gut-punch flashbacks, diving deeper into Frieren's struggle with mortality, her old party, and her messy history with demons. Expect new allies, tougher fights, and moments that'll have you reaching for tissues. The trailer's already got fans on X losing their minds, calling it 'peak storytelling' and hyping the new vibes.
