K-pop fans vent fury at organisers as Mainland Chinese scalpers invaded G-Dragon's KL gigs
Tickets for Korean singing sensation G-Dragon's two live shows in Kuala Lumpur over the weekend (July 19 and 20) had sold out shortly after going on sale.
In fact, they were all snapped up within hours of being made available for public sale on May 29 which left thousands of adoring fans disappointed.
Worse yet, many had to resort to tickets scalpers who re-sold the tickets at many times the face value. Thus, imagine these fans shock, disappointment and even disgust to see plenty of empty seats at the venue during both shows at the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil.
What was even more galling was that it seemed that a large portion of the crowd seemed to be foreigners. This was based on the lack of response when the artiste conversed in Bahasa Malaysia and the unfamiliarity of many attendees with G-Dragon lyrics.
Kamen Liew's post on Facebook seem typical of the responses that are flooding social media in the aftermath of the KL gigs.
The lacklustre atmosphere was highlighted which proved hugely disappointing for this particular fan who was probably right in pointing out that G-Dragon may have been expecting more from the crowd given this was his first gigs here in eight years.
She must also be fearing that such poor crowd interaction would dissuade other K-pop performers from including Malaysia in future tours.
Similarly, many also vented their fury at the organisers – Star Planet Sdn Bhd. It was perceived that its poorly managed ticketing system has led to a scenario whereby tickets ended up with foreign fans – notably Chinese nationals – instead of locals.
if you think you want to be a successful organiser @StarPlanetMY , why don't you be a concert organiser in CHINA instead of Malaysia? you really LOVEEEE that country so much is it 😙😙😙❤️❤️ u don't even care at all about Malaysian people 🤓

One fan even included video footage of the K-pop icon conversing in Malay and looking somewhat confused at the lukewarm response.
It must be noted that K-pop fans take great joy in interacting with their idols and when these stars make the effort to learn some local lingo, it is expected that appreciation be shown …. Loudly!
Alas, the seemingly poor response will reflect poorly on local FAM (name for G-Dragon fandom).
🐲: 'Korang dah makan?'
'Jumpa nanti'
'Terima kasih'
Look how he tried his best to speak in Malay but at last, he seems got confused as probably lack of ppl could confirm what he prob heard..anyway kudos to Malaysians who responded in Malay👏#GDRAGONinKL #GDinKL pic.twitter.com/4IdH3Xmh2b

Further proof was presented with a video purportedly showing large sections of the crowd only singing to portions of tunes that were in their own language.
This is not the given thing as K-pop fans go to great lengths to learn and memorise tunes in the artistes' native tongue. Such poor fandom was again seen as reflecting on local FAMs or VIPs (name given to fans of his pop group Big Bang).
Proof that the crowds are not Malaysian. They only know to sing in their own language and even GD LOOKS SHOCKED as they only sing that part.
I dont blame them, i blame STARPLANET for ripped the opportunities from Malaysian fans. #GDinKL #GDRAGONINKL #GDRAGON pic.twitter.com/neVP35APgy

Few things to note from these gigs.
Firstly, ticket scalping is nothing new. The bigger the act, the more likely it will happen. Oasis fans were subject to the same with the recent reunion concerts.
Black Sabbath's final farewell show earlier this month sold out in a record-breaking 16 minutes with scalpers making a killing on the secondary market.
It is entirely up to the organisers and to an extent, the artiste, to fix this pertinent issue.
Secondly, sold out concerts are great for the economy, more so when visitors flock to the country for those shows.
However, it is not so great for local fans who miss out on tickets. Supply and demand will determine this but something will need to be done to minimise empty seats at venues to avoid 'sold out' shows feel anything but. – July 22, 2025

Gripping new Korean drama 'The Defects' that tackles a modern-day illegal adoption ring makes its way to Tonton
"The Defects," a new ENA drama based on the Kakao Webtoon of the same name, which has already recorded over 51 million views, is an action thriller depicting the desperate survival and revenge of children who were abandoned by their adoptive parents and barely survived at the brink of death. The dark and gripping new Korean drama that tackles a modern-day illegal adoption ring started airing on Tuesday (July 21) on Tonton. Starring talented actors such as Yum Jung-ah, Won Jina, Choi Young Jun and Kim Jin Young (DEX), this series promises a storyline full of drama, conflict, and questions that challenge human instincts. The drama's premise, an illegal adoption cartel where adoptive parents can buy children and even request refunds if not satisfied, already sparked buzz for its provocative subject matter. For the record, more than 140,000 children had been sent overseas by Seoul following the devastating 1950-53 Korean War. The drama also comes in for fans when the South Korean government announced recently that the country is set to end the decades-old practice of outsourcing adoptions to private agencies, after a damaging investigation concluded the country's government-endorsed foreign adoption programme violated the fundamental human rights of adoptees. South Korea will now introduce a 'newly restructured public adoption system, under which the state and local governments take full responsibility for the entire adoption process', South Korea's Ministry of Health and Welfare said. As for "The Defects", the series is an action thriller drama that tells the story of a group of children who are illegally purchased by their adoptive parents, and then trapped in the dark world of human trafficking. Behind this world, there is Kim Se-Hee (played by Yum Jung-ah), a renowned doctor and high-profile hospital director who also heads an illegal adoption syndicate run by Jung Hyeon (played by Kim Jin Young). The organisation offers a "guaranteed return," a cruel system that can eliminate these children simply because they do not meet the expectations of their adoptive parents. Then comes Kim A-Hyeon (played by Won Jina), one of the survivors who managed to escape. Now, she rises to lead other children to reclaim their persecuted future and avenge the betrayal of the past that continues to haunt them. This brave story is lifted from a popular webtoon that once sparked a phenomenon, with the original work receiving international recognition through the "Best Creative Award" in the Webtoon category at the International Content Market SPP 2017, an achievement that proves the strength of the narrative and the message it carries. "The Defects" also marks Kim Jin Young, better known as DEX's return to acting, and this time in a suspenseful thriller full of dark secrets. The actor, who is also a former special forces soldier and reality show star, DEX continues to expand his artistic talents, and his appearance this time is certainly highly anticipated. In a recent interview in Seoul, DEX said: "I like to focus intensely when I work, and the appealing part about acting is being able to deeply explore and lead a character," he said. "I approached it with a sense of guilt, wondering if I would be a flaw [among the cast]. I pulled out everything I could to work on this project." "The Defect" is an eight-episode show and for more information on the show, fans can follow Tonton on Facebook, Twitter, TikTok and Instagram di @tontonmy.

(Video) SEVENTEEN's Joshua, DK, & Dino Confirm Visit To Malaysia For Upcoming Mister Potato Event
Fans never tire of hearing exciting news about their favourite K-pop idols coming to Malaysia for concerts, fan meetings, or special appearances at brand events. We're only halfway through 2025, and the list of stars set to visit our shores is constantly being updated. Joining the list are three members of a popular boy group. Recently, Mister Potato Malaysia shared a photo featuring the silhouettes of three male idols, teasing K-pop fans with the news that they'll be making their way to Kuala Lumpur for a special appearance. Many made their guesses on who they could be, and it seems that the majority are correct! Last week, Mister Potato Malaysia announced their Jinjja Crunch collaboration with SEVENTEEN (세븐틴) members Joshua, DK, and Dino. The announcement video features the idols posing with three different flavours of the popular snack; Original, BBQ and Sour Cream & Onion. While an official statement regarding their visit to Malaysia has yet to be confirmed, the singers themselves appeared to spoil the surprise by posting a behind-the-scenes vlog of them filming promotional content for the brand. In the video posted yesterday (Tuesday, 22nd July), the members can be heard excitedly announcing that they'll be coming to Malaysia soon. 'We have 진짜 exciting news for you guys. We love you, Mister Potato! See you in Malaysia!' they said in the vlog. That particular moment quickly went viral among Malaysian fans, with many expressing their excitement about the visit. Some commented on how surprised they were to hear the news directly from the members before the brand had made an official announcement. Others are hoping that the upcoming event will be held at a larger venue, rather than a shopping centre, to accommodate not only meet-and-greet winners but also other fans who wish to see them in person. However, Joshua, DK, and Dino were not the first to spoil the surprise as MAMEE-Double Decker Group CEO, Mr. Pierre Pang, previously posted on his IG Story about the event when the brand first teased about the collab. At the time of writing, Mister Potato has yet to make the official announcement about the upcoming event with the 3 SEVENTEEN members. While we wait for more details, here's the behind-the-scenes vlog of the singers confirming their visit: The promo announcement video they filmed: Sources: Instagram, YouTube

Behind Prison Walls: A Daughter's Love Marks Najib's 72nd Birthday
Subscribe to our FREE Today marks a milestone that would typically call for family gatherings, birthday cake, and celebration. Instead, Datuk Seri Najib Razak is spending his 72nd birthday behind the walls of Kajang Prison – but his daughter's touching tribute on social media proves that love knows no barriers. As the clock struck another year for the former Prime Minister, his daughter Yana Najib took to Facebook with a message that cut straight to the heart. She opened with a quote from former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, that seemed to capture everything: 'A brave man is not one who is not afraid but one who conquers his fears.' The timing wasn't coincidental. Today, 23 July, 2025, Najib turns 72 – a birthday that marks his third consecutive year celebrating behind bars, and his daughter wasn't about to let it pass unnoticed. Three Years of Separated Birthdays 'Happy birthday Daddy,' Yana wrote in Malay, her words carrying the weight of years of separation. May Allah SWT grant you strength and good health for Daddy. The reality she acknowledges is stark: 'We haven't been able to celebrate with Daddy for 3 years, separated from us.' Yet her message carries no trace of bitterness, only hope wrapped in faith: 'May all matters be made easy and God willing, we can be together again in the near future.' Yana's heartfelt tribute sparked a wave of solidarity across social media, as Najib's supporters joined in marking his 72nd birthday. Facebook and other platforms are filled with nostalgic posts from loyalists sharing fond memories of better times – photos from political rallies, screenshots of his achievements as Prime Minister, and throwback images of him with family during happier occasions. Among the throwback moments was a particularly endearing video clip showing Najib singing Cliff Richard's 1961 classic 'The Young Ones' – a moment that captured a lighter, more personal side of the former Prime Minister that many supporters fondly remember. Finding Light in Dark Times Yana's post reads like poetry born from pain: 'A calm heart behind the silence. A ray of hope illuminating the path in adversity. Surely there is wisdom behind every trial. More wise, patient and kind than before.' These aren't just words – they're a daughter's way of making sense of a situation that has redefined her family's reality since 23 August, 2022, when Najib began serving his sentence for the Najib has repeatedly denied wrongdoing. Today's birthday carries particular significance because it brings the family closer to potential reunion. The Pardons Board's February 2024 decision to That's just over three years away, making today's 72nd birthday a marker on a countdown that his family clearly holds dear. At the same time, the Attorney General confirmed the existence of a royal order that is crucial for Najib's Beyond Politics, Pure Love In a political landscape often defined by division and rhetoric, Yana's birthday message stands apart. Her hashtags #bossku and #dsn (Datuk Seri Najib) show unwavering support, but her words transcend politics entirely. This is simply a daughter honouring her father on his birthday, separated by circumstances but united by unbreakable bonds. The Mandela quote she chose resonates deeply – a reminder that even leaders who've faced imprisonment can emerge with wisdom and strength. As Najib marks his 72nd year today, his daughter's message suggests she sees this chapter not as an ending, but as a test of character that will ultimately reveal more profound truths.
