What to expect on Netflix thanks to Harry and Meghan's new deal

Leader Live4 hours ago
Harry and Meghan have given the streaming giant first options on their output from Archewell Productions.
Here is what to expect from the couple on Netflix in the coming months:
– With Love, Meghan – Season 2
The second instalment of Meghan's lifestyle show will debut later in August.
Netflix said: 'Meghan returns with a fun and heartwarming new season, welcoming celebrity chefs, talented artists, and beloved friends for hands-on adventures filled with laughter and discovery.'
A post shared by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex (@meghan)
It promises 'playful cooking challenges' and 'DIY projects', adding: 'Meghan and her guests explore bold flavours, experiment with new techniques, and discover simple ways to add beauty to everyday life.'
The show, Netflix says, is 'all about embracing playfulness over perfection and finding joy in creating together'.
Season one was not, however, well received by critics and the show has a 3.2 rating out of 10 on imdb.com.
– With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration
The special holiday episode of With Love, Meghan will air in December.
Netflix invites viewers to 'join Meghan in Montecito for a magical holiday celebration'.
It adds: 'Together, friends and family deck the halls, create holiday feasts, craft heartfelt gifts, and share lots of laughs – with simple how-tos to follow at home.
'It's a holiday wonder with warmth, tradition, and a generous dose of joy.'
The Sussexes used to spend Christmas with the royal family at Sandringham but Harry and Meghan, who moved to the US five years ago, last did so in 2018.
Harry is estranged from his brother the Prince of Wales after a bitter fallout and has a troubled relationship with his father the King.
– Meet Me At The Lake
The 'romance feature' is an adaptation of the bestselling novel by Carley Fortune.
'This romantic drama follows a decade-spanning love story that begins with a chance encounter and a broken promise,' Netflix says.
A post shared by Carley Fortune (@carleyfortune)
No date has been announced for the project – news of which first emerged two years ago.
The story deals with mental health, postnatal depression and childhood trauma over losing a parent in a car crash, with some of the themes said to have similarities with Harry and Meghan's own experience.
– Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within
The new documentary short, by Campfire Studios in Association with Wontanara Productions and Archewell Productions, will focus on a tiny orphanage in Uganda which was borne out of the HIV/Aids crisis.
Harry and Meghan are listed among the producers and the documentary will be released later this year.
The duke only recently stepped down from Sentebale, the charity he founded nearly 20 years ago to help children orphaned by Aids in Lesotho, following a boardroom battle with its chairwoman.
Harry, who was left devastated by the development and who is considering starting a new humanitarian charity, vowed to continue his commitment to supporting youngsters in the region.
Netflix says: 'In the heart of Uganda's Masaka region, where the shadows of the HIV/Aids crisis linger, a small orphanage becomes a beacon of hope.
'Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within goes beyond the viral videos to reveal a vibrant, one-of-a-kind community where orphaned children transform hardship into joy, dancing their way toward healing, belonging, and the promise of a brighter future.'
It is not known whether Harry and Meghan will feature in the documentary.
– Future projects
Archewell Productions says it is 'in active development on additional projects with Netflix that span a variety of content genres'.
The Sussexes' contract has been described as a 'multi-year, first look deal for film and television projects'.

Celebrity SAS viewers slam lying recruit kicked out for 'cutting corners'

Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins viewers have slammed a recruit after he was told his 'integrity and honesty stinks'. Last month the Channel 4 reality show returned to screens – welcoming 14 new famous faces who are put through their paces to try and achieve SAS selection. This year's line-up has included S Club's Hannah Spearritt, X Factor's Lucy Spraggan, Love Island stars Tasha Ghouri, Chloe Burrows and Adam Collar, Drag Race's Bimini and The Traitors winner Harry Clark. Along the way several have voluntarily withdrawn, but on tonight's episode Harry left both the Directing Staff and viewers enraged after he was caught 'cutting corners' and lying. During a challenge the group were tasked with doing 20 burpees, however it was quickly noticed that Harry had only bothered to do half. So far on the show the former British Army engineer, who left the forces two months before filming on SAS began, had only passed one challenge. When being interrogated at the end of the episode the 24-year-old was called out for his shady actions by Chief Instructor Billy Billingham and Foxy (Jason Fox). The pair had been going through the day's events, when it was raised that Harry had failed in leading his team. They went on to say he was 'bluffing' things and had also lied about doing the burpees required of him. 'His integrity and honesty stinks to a point of it being unacceptable,' Billy declared. Harry was then hauled in to meet with the DS after they reviewed footage that proved he'd not completed the exercise task. He was then asked about being a team player and if he 'cut corners', claims he denied. The DS then made him watch the footage himself and count out the number of burpees he'd done in total. The reality star then claimed he'd stopped early because he was 'slow and letting his team down' – a response that enraged Foxy. 'Are you trying to pull the wool over my eyes? I asked you to do 20. You've just sat there as an ex-military man and spoken about honesty, integrity and how you do your best and don't cut corners. Do you think I'm an idiot,' he said. Slamming the table and making Harry flinch, Foxy told Harry to be honest, before he and Billy called in the guard. Harry was then made to stand in front of his fellow recruits and admit his deception, before he was ordered to hand in his armband and was kicked off the show. Soon after, many viewers weighed in on what had unfolded. 'That is a humiliating way for Harry to leave. Making him count when both he and they know he'd cheated was a masterstroke,' Charlotte posted on X. 'Ironic, the very skill that won Harry the whole game on The Traitors was his entire downfall on SAS,' Kirsty shared. 'Harry is unbelievable – still trying to cover his tracks even after being found out! Thought Billy and Chris were going to explode!' Angela added. Others called it 'harsh but fair' to boot him. Seemingly not concerned about what he'd been caught doing, on Monday Harry posted a video of himself exercising on Instagram, writing: 'Practicing my burpees because apparently I can't do them.' Speaking ahead of the show premiering, Harry said he signed up to 'test' himself'. However, when asked to sum up his experience on the show, he explained: 'It was confusing because the course broke me physically and mentally. But that was actually the kick I needed and the experience I needed at that time. More Trending 'It was definitely a growing point for me. That's what I've matured from, what's taught me that not everything goes perfectly to plan. 'So yeah, I would say it's confusing because of the amount of emotions I felt. I felt every single emotion you can feel from a TV show, on that course!' After deceiving his way through The Traitors, Harry took home £95,150 in the 2024 season of the BBC game show. Cate Blanchett reveals how Squid Game cameo was kept secret and teases spin-off

Cate Blanchett has addressed how her hugely-secretive Squid Game guest appearance in the show's final episode came about and where it could go next. The South Korean Netflix phenomenon bowed out this summer after becoming the biggest show ever to hit the platform, detailing a dystopian death match that's now entered the popular vernacular, with a pink and green wardrobe that's Halloween-ready. Among the many surprises during the final season, at the top of the list was Blanchett, 56, appearing in the final scene as a Squid Game recruiter based in Los Angeles. In the scene, the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) is driving through the city when he looks down an alley and spots Blanchett's character, suited and booted, playing a game of ddakji with a homeless man. The set-up is identical to how Gong Yoo's salesman first recruited Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) on a subway platform at night, playing the same slap-centric version of the game. Blanchett has now said the offer to appear on the show 'came out of the blue' before she agrred to film the top-secret final scene. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video She told Variety: 'Because it's such a cult series and they were shooting in LA of all places, everyone was on a need-to-know basis.' The 56-year-old told the publication that she didn't even do a wardrobe fitting for the unnamed role, instead bringing her own suit to filming and learning 'very quickly' to play ddakji. 'I had to practice and practice,' she said. 'I knew there were four or five setups that they were going to do, and I knew what they needed from every shot, and then I was given the [script pages]. But it was one of the more mysterious jobs.' TV Editor Sabrina Barr shares her take… The final season, which Metro was able to watch in its entirety before the release, is darn near-perfect. Almost. While creator Hwang Dong-hyuk didn't initially have the three seasons mapped out, he concludes the tale of Player 456, Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) in a seamless way that feels as though it was always meant to be a three-part story. As for why season three isn't a clear 10/10, the main qualm I have pertains to a group of characters who are so distracting they bring me back to real life with a sharp jolt – the VIPs. Their presence is jarring and feels unnecessary, even if the intention is to demonstrate who the game is being held for. But, the final moments of season three genuinely made me jaw drop in the best way possible. The chief takeaway from Blanchett's cameo, as well as the scene's reveal that an international version of the Game exists, was that Netflix appeared to be setting up a show spin-off. It's not a suggestion Blanchett denied in the interview. More Trending So could she be the star of a new English-language version of the show? Blanchett says she is 'wildly open to anything'. 'In a world that is so beautifully, magically created like that, for sure,' she said. 'They're amazing world-builders, and that series has been eaten alive. I don't think there's a corner of the globe that it hasn't touched in some way.' View More » Squid Game is available to stream on Netflix. Got a story? More info Strictly Come Dancing celebrity Alex Kingston endured a turbulent romantic history before discovering happiness with her current husband. The Doctor Who star, 62, has joined the latest series of the popular BBC dancing show as she gets ready to showcase her moves on the ballroom floor. She won over Doctor Who fans after securing the part of River Song, with her character featuring during David Tenant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi's time on the science fiction programme. Her television work has included appearances in American medical series ER, historical dramas The Fortunes and Misfortunes of Moll Flanders, Arrow and A Discovery of Witches. (Image:for Netflix) The actress has never been shy about her desire to participate in Strictly. In 2019, she revealed: "Sarah Hadland and I talked about how much we'd like to do Strictly Come Dancing. Then I discovered she's a trained ballet dancer. 'Hang on a minute! That's not fair!' So, I can't do it on a season when she is on it!" Off-screen, Alex has experienced her own personal dramas. She met Oscar-nominated actor Ralph Fiennes at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1983. The couple married ten years later, but their relationship ended disastrously when Ralph fell for a woman 18 years his senior. Reflecting on their split, Alex once said: "We were like strangers – very fragile," reports the Mirror. "His mother was dying and somehow we thought the wedding was going to heal everything. But that was crazy, of course." (Image: NY Daily News via Getty Images) In 1995, Ralph starred in Hamlet at Hackney Empire opposite Francesca Annis-who played Gertrude, his character's mother. Despite the age gap, their romance resulted in him abandoning Alex and declaring his love for Francesca. Ralph, aged 32 at the time, began a relationship with Francesca, then 50. Francesca, who has three children with photographer Patrick Wiseman, allegedly left him for the actor. Alex disclosed the extent of her emotional turmoil following their divorce to the Daily Mail, stating: "I was feeling worthless, that I would never find anyone else as good as my husband, which is ridiculous, but I had so little self-esteem. "Divorce is awful but it is also something I don't regret happening to me because it has shaped who I am now." (Image: Ron Galella Collection via Getty Images) Ralph and Francesca were together for 10 years between 1997 and 2006 and dismissed age gap criticisms. "Of course I don't spend days agonising over the age difference. How can I? There is nothing I can do about it," she once said. "Ralph and I have been together ten years now so, whatever happens, we have had a very good, different relationship and an interesting time." Their romance crumbled following a shocking infidelity claim as Romanian singer Corneila Crisan alleged she had conducted a two-year affair with Ralph. (Image:for Pragnell) The following day, Ralph and Francesca declared their decision to part ways, stating: "Miss Annis confirms today that she and Ralph Fiennes are to separate." Ralph's infidelity had a devastating impact on Alex, who confessed to contemplating suicide. She later tied the knot with German writer Florian Haertel and together they welcomed daughter Salome in 2001. However, their marriage ended in 2009 and their divorce was finalised four years later. Fortunately, Alex has since found love again and is now happily married to TV presenter Jonathan Stamp, with the couple exchanging vows in Italy in 2015. Strictly Come Dancing returns to the BBC later this year.
