MOF Warns of RM100 SARA Aid Scam Links

The Finance Ministry (MOF) has clarified that recipients of the one-off RM100 SARA aid do not need to register, amid growing concerns over scam links and misinformation spreading online. Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying said the aid will be automatically credited to all eligible MyKad holders aged 18 and above starting Aug 31, and any claims that users must sign up through online portals are false and potentially dangerous. 'We've received numerous inquiries and complaints about fake websites and links related to RM100 Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) aid registration. 'Let me be clear, these are scams. Do not click on or share them,' Lim emphasised, while stressing that no application is needed as the aid will be directly credited to recipients' MyKad. On July 23, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that a one-off RM100 SARA cash aid that will be credited via MyKad to all Malaysians aged 18 and above. This part of broader Madani government initiatives, which also include toll hike postponements and a RON95 fuel price cut to RM1.99 per litre later this year. Lim added that in the event eligible individuals do not receive the payment by Aug 31, the government will provide follow-up information and guidance. Meanwhile, Lim also revealed that the government is reviewing proposals to include wet goods such as chicken, fish and meat under the SARA programme. 'The consideration is part of ongoing efforts to align the programme with real consumer needs, especially among lower-income households. 'We're open to feedback. Any expansion will be thoroughly studied in consultation with relevant stakeholders, including the recipients themselves,' she said. As of May 1, the SARA programme covers 14 categories of essential goods, including food, medicine, hygiene products, school supplies and household cleaning items, amounting to over 90,000 eligible products nationwide. The MOF urges Malaysians to rely only on official government channels for accurate updates and to report suspicious messages or websites related to the aid. Related

‘Just like football, can't rely on the sole striker': Johari urges Umno team unity ahead of GE16

SHAH ALAM, July 27 — UMNO members have been advised to continue working as a team, which is free from internal squabbles, in preparation for the next general election. UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said the formation of a machinery as a solid team could prove decisive towards achieving success in the general election. 'In football, when we play against another team, you can't just rely on one striker. If you only have one performing striker, while the rest are not, it'll be difficult. So, we must play as a team. 'If the team is right, solid and has no squabbles, particularly in facing the general election, Insya-Allah, 50 per cent of the battle is won. The others depend on issues cropping up in the government and the country,' he said after officiating the Shah Alam UMNO Division delegates meeting here today. Johari, also the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, advised UMNO members to consider the views of the younger generation, in particular, who form 40 per cent of the total number of voters nationwide. 'They have a very different thinking compared to our ancestors. This happens globally when our audience, who are 18 years old, can automatically become voters. 'If we, as a party, cannot understand the thinking of our youngsters, how are we going to cultivate and constantly produce young leaders who understand?… our problems will be bigger next time. Commenting on the statement by opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin yesterday that the opposition is considering tabling a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Parliament, Johari said each Member of Parliament (MP) has the right to do so. 'In this Parliament, any MP can table that motion (of no-confidence). Nobody can stop it. 'So, the motion is tabled in Parliament… then we will see who has the support and who hasn't. Parliament will determine this,' said the Titiwangsa MP. — Bernama

Judge the govt on facts, not political sentiment, Anwar urges Malaysians

PUTRAJAYA: The public should assess the government's efforts and policies based on facts rather than political sentiment, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Prime Minister said that although the government has implemented various initiatives, there were still parties spreading inaccurate information, such as claims of rising fuel and commodity prices, when in reality, the opposite was true. "This is a free and democratic country, but we must provide clarification. During interviews (at the gathering in Dataran Merdeka), some claimed fuel prices had gone up, when in fact they had gone down. There are many (such false claims). "This reflects political sentiment and hatred, not facts. Therefore, we suggest that people make judgments based on facts. If there are shortcomings, we are open to improvement,' he told reporters after attending the Organisational Strengthening Seminar and PKR president's tour of the Federal Territories here on Sunday (July 27). Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, acknowledged that while not every government initiative was perfect, efforts were continually being made to resolve issues. "…I'm not saying what we've done is perfect, but we constantly listen and make adjustments where needed,' he said. Meanwhile, Anwar said he was open to the Opposition tabling a vote of no confidence against his leadership in the Dewan Rakyat. The PKR president and Pakatan Harapan chairman said such a move was part of a legitimate democratic process. "We are open to it. This is the correct process. If they want to table it (a vote of no confidence), go ahead. He (Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin) has been saying that for three years now,' Anwar said. He was responding to comments made by Hamzah, the Opposition Leader, during a gathering at Dataran Merdeka on Saturday (July 26), where the latter claimed the Opposition is currently considering submitting the motion to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul soon. Earlier, Anwar arrived at the closed-door event at around 12.30pm, where he delivered his presidential address and engaged with PKR members in attendance.- Bernama
