Marc Marquez outduels brother Alex for ‘dream' Thai MotoGP win
It completed a dominant debut for his new factory Ducati team, with pole-sitter Marquez having romped to victory in Saturday's sprint at the Buriram Circuit for a maximum 37 championship points.
The Spanish great took his 63rd MotoGP victory by 1.732sec from younger sibling Alex, who is still seeking a first chequered flag, with Italian two-time world champion Francesco Bagnaia third.
Marc Marquez had opened a 1.5 second gap at the front in searing heat, when on lap seven he suddenly slowed on turn three with a tyre pressure problem to relinquish the lead to his brother.
Marc tucked into second spot, lurking ominously on Alex's back wheel for another 15 laps as he managed his tyres expertly and kept the pressure issue under control.
His strategy paid off as he made a decisive move with less than laps of the 26 to dive under Alex on turn 12 before stretching away to complete a second family one-two, after Saturday's sprint.
'Yesterday I was happy, today I am super happy,' said Marc Marquez. 'I mean it's a dream. I cannot ask for more.

Alcaraz claims Cincinnati title
Carlos Alcaraz won the ATP Cincinnati Open title on Monday after defending champion Jannik Sinner retired due to illness in the first set. 'It was a good test this week, trying to understand where my level is.' Sinner lasted for just 22 minutes, calling for the doctor after losing the fifth game and shortly after going to shake hands with Alcaraz. Alcaraz eyes New York It was the second match in a row Alcaraz had won over an ailing opponent, following his win over Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals. Alcaraz won his 22nd career title as he claimed his 17th victory in a row at the Masters 1000 level. He now leads Sinner 9-5 and lost to the Italian in their last match, the Wimbledon final last month. 'Obviously it's not the way that I wanted to win the final,' the Spaniard said. 'First of all, I just want to wish Jan - nik a speedy recovery. Hopefully in a few days he's going to be okay to prepare and practice well to the US Open. 'For myself, I'm just really, really happy to be able to leave the with trophy, since I just lost that final in 2023 (to Novak Djokovic) I just wanted really, really badly this, this trophy, so I just really proud and happy to be able to lift it.' Former Open winner Alcaraz, who was upset in the second round a year ago, is looking forward to a more respectable showing in New York. 'I'm feeling a lot of confidence. New York is a place that I love is where I got my first Grand Slam. 'I appreciate the love and the support that I received there every every year... last year it was disappointing, the level that I played there. Carapaz to skip Spanish Vuelta as he recovers from bug
Former Olympic champion Richard Carapaz, who withdraw from the Tour de France with a stomach bug, is not fit to race in the Spanish Vuelta, his team said yesterday. The Ecuadorian has had a difficult recovery and he not ready for the Vuelta which starts on Saturday. 'I couldn't train for more than two or three days at a time,' he was quoted as saying in a statement by the EF Education team. Carapaz said he was training in Ecuador and would concentrate on the late-season one-day classics and the world championships in September. 'I'm almost fully recovered now,' he said. 'The next goals we've set are the Italian classics, especially Il Lombardia, and also the World Championships in Rwanda.' Carapaz, a former Italian Giro winner, last summer became the first Ecuadorian to wear the yellow leader's jersey on the Tour de France, where he led for a day. Yet he was not selected by his country to defend his Olympic title in Paris. 'It's a very special World Championship,' he wrote. 'That's why I came to Ecuador: to do some altitude training, regain motivation, and focus 100 per cent. Certain factors play in our favour, and we want to make the most of them.'

Marquez wins sprint at Austrian MotoGP
Marc Marquez extended his lead at the top of the MotoGP standings when he won Saturday's Austrian Grand Prix sprint at the Red Bull Ring. It was his 12th sprint victory of the season, his sixth in succession, and it takes the Ducati rider 123 points ahead of his brother Alex Marquez with Sunday's Grand Prix still to come, followed by another nine race weekends in the 22- race season. Early leader Alex (Ducati-Gresini) was second in the 14-lap race with Pedro Acosta (KTM) completing the podium. Marc Marquez, who had never previously won at this circuit, had only been beaten once in sprints this year when his brother Alex outdid him at Silverstone and he had to bide his time to claim fraternal bragging rights once again. With five laps remaining, Alex made a slight error exiting a chicane which opened the door for his elder brother to slide through and take the lead which he held until the end.
