Marc Marquez outduels brother Alex for ‘dream' Thai MotoGP win
Six-time world champion Marc Marquez used all his experience to fight back from a mid-race wobble to outduel his brother Alex Marquez for a 'dream' win in yesterday's season-opening Thai MotoGP.
It completed a dominant debut for his new factory Ducati team, with pole-sitter Marquez having romped to victory in Saturday's sprint at the Buriram Circuit for a maximum 37 championship points.
The Spanish great took his 63rd MotoGP victory by 1.732sec from younger sibling Alex, who is still seeking a first chequered flag, with Italian two-time world champion Francesco Bagnaia third.
Marc Marquez had opened a 1.5 second gap at the front in searing heat, when on lap seven he suddenly slowed on turn three with a tyre pressure problem to relinquish the lead to his brother.
Marc tucked into second spot, lurking ominously on Alex's back wheel for another 15 laps as he managed his tyres expertly and kept the pressure issue under control.
His strategy paid off as he made a decisive move with less than laps of the 26 to dive under Alex on turn 12 before stretching away to complete a second family one-two, after Saturday's sprint.
'Yesterday I was happy, today I am super happy,' said Marc Marquez. 'I mean it's a dream. I cannot ask for more.

‘Italian genius' Inzaghi to coach Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal

Top seed Sinner outclasses Bublik to reach French Open semis
Jannik Sinner booked himself a second consecutive semi-final appearance at Roland Garros yesterday with a typically ruthless straightsets victory over unseeded Kazakh Alexander Bublik. The world number one cruised through his quarter final match 6 -1 , 7-5, 6-0 in one hour and 49 minutes on Court Philippe Chatrier, and is still yet to drop a set at the French Open this year. The 23-year-old will next face either 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic or third seed Alexander Zverev for a place in Sunday's final. 'I just tried to stay focused on my side of the court, so tried to stay as solid as possible because he (Bublik) can have ups and downs,' said Sinner. 'It was a good performance from my side… against these kind of players you have to be very consistent. 'I'm very happy with how I've arrived in the semi-finals, semi-finals in Grand Slams are very special.' World number two Carlos Alcaraz said his last-eight dismantling of Tommy Paul on Tuesday was in part 'inspired' by Sinner and his time-sensitive approach to tennis over the last fortnight. Sinner has spent less than 10 hours on court through his first five matches as he has systematically taken apart his opponents for the loss of very few games. 'He (Sinner) inspired me in some ways just to give my 100 percent every match and I see how important it is just to play such a great level in the whole match, just to have more time then to recover after the match,' Alcaraz told reporters after his 94-minute win. And the Italian showed centre court just what his rival meant by wrapping up the first set in just over halfan-hour. Bublik, ranked 62, managed to get a foothold in the second set as he matched Sinner game for game through the majority of the frame, but never managed to force a break point and really put pressure on the Italian.

Piastri triumphs in Spanish GP
Oscar Piastri drove with exemplary calm and control in a torrid race yesterday to beat rival and teammate Lando Norris as McLaren claimed a first Spanish Grand Prix victory since 2005 with a resounding 1-2 triumph. The 24-year-old Australian came home 2.4 seconds clear of Norris to extend his lead in the drivers' championship to 10 points with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc finishing third after a dramatic finale. Four-time champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull went for a three-stop strategy that resulted in him losing third place in the final laps before being handed a 10-second penalty for crashing into Mercedes' George Russell who finished fourth. It was Piastri's fifth win of the season and the seventh win of his career – and his eighth consecutive podium finish for McLaren, a feat that had only been achieved before by threetime champion Ayrton Senna and seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton. Nico Hulkenberg was fifth, from 15th on the grid, for Sauber ahead of Hamilton in a Ferrari, Racing Bulls' rookie Isack Hadjar and Pierre Gasly of Alpine. Two-time champion and local hero Fernando Alonso finished ninth for Aston Martin with Verstappen classified 10th after his bruising late incidents which prompted 2016 world champion Nico Rosberg to suggest he deserved to be black-flagged and disqualified. 'Great weekend' 'It was a bit of a surprise to see Max try a three-stop and it nearly worked for him,' said Piastri. 'But it's been a great weekend overall. The overall pace was really good and we could turn it on when we needed to – and I am just very proud of the work we've done this weekend. 'It's a nice way to bounce back from Monaco. It's been a superb weekend.' Monaco winner Norris started second but ceded his position to Verstappen on the first lap before battling back to follow his teammate home. 'Oscar drove a very good race today,' said Norris. 'I didn't quite have the pace to match him. We gave it our best shot. It's a long race and anything could have happened at the end of the race. 'We both got pretty sideways with the safety car restart. It was a good, fun race and for us as a team to finish one-two is even better.'
