Kansas City Chiefs' Brett Veach ranks second on a top GM list heading into the 2025 season
The Kansas City Chiefs are always expected to be one of the top teams in the league, and the 2025 season will be no different, especially with the front office led by general manager Brett Veach.
NBC Sports' Roto World Football recently ranked Veach as the NFL's No. 2 general manager. He was second to Howie Roseman of the Philadelphia Eagles; ironically, the teams battled in Super Bowl LIX. The Chiefs remain the high standard in the league with their three consecutive Super Bowl appearances.
"Modern NFL dynasties are never just about the football. There's also the finance and personnel management. No matter how well you thread the needle, you still end up with situations like the 2024 Chiefs. Kansas City rode an elite core all the way to the Super Bowl only for their champagne problems to finally be laid bare," wrote Patrick Daugherty. "With Hall-of-Famers Patrick Mahomes, Chris Jones, and Travis Kelce chewing up acres of salary cap space, the Chiefs were short-handed in too many critical areas. That includes the receiver corps, offensive line, and backfield. But the struggles weren't solely about money. The Chiefs could still afford to pay a few more stars, but how do you land them when you are picking at No. 31 or 32 every year?"
Kansas City has continued to face the obstacle of winning and being forced to pick late in drafts. Veach has scored well with late selections and undrafted free agents in past seasons.

The inaugural inclusion of flag football at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles might convince Tom Brady to come out of retirement - again. Brady, 47, was asked if he's felt any urge to represent Team USA since the sport was announced as an addition to the upcoming Games. 'I'm still very competitive,' Brady told Complex Sports on June 4. 'If you put a football in my hand, then watch out. Because that's still in there. That's never going to go away.' Flag football was officially announced as an Olympic sport in October 2023, eight months after Brady retired from the NFL for good. 'They almost need to tame me,' Brady continued. 'They need to put me in a cage when I get around a football field.' When Brady was told flag football will be 5-on-5 instead of the more traditional 7-on-7 format, he said, 'It doesn't matter what it is.' Last month, NFL owners voted at the Spring League Meeting to allow NFL players to play flag football in the Olympics. Each country's team will consist of 10 players and games will take place on a 50-yard field. Women's flag football will also be included at the 2028 Summer Olympics under the same guidelines. While Brady might consider representing his country at the Games, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was not quite as enthused. 'I'll probably leave that to the younger guys,' Mahomes, 29, told reporters May 29. 'I'll be a little older by the time that thing comes around.' Mahomes will be 32 years old at the start of the 2028 Summer Olympics. Brady will be 50. While Mahomes might be on the sidelines, other current NFL players gushed about the potential opportunity to participate. 'Flag football players may be upset at me for this, but yes, I would absolutely love it,' Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jonestold ESPN last month. 'Every other sport gets an opportunity to win a gold medal, and if you're not serving your country in the military, I feel like that's the other highest honor that you can represent your country in.' Jones' teammate, wide receiver Justin Jefferson, said the idea of playing in the Olympics is one he will 'have to weigh in a little bit.'' 'It's three years from now, it's three whole seasons that I'm going to have to go through,' Jefferson, 25, told ESPN. 'Of course, getting older, body is going to be different, but that's definitely always been a dream. Border Patrol will be at the Club World Cup, says it's routine to provide security for such events
Associated Press U.S. Customs and Border Protection said it regularly provides security at big sporting events in response to questions about the agency's presence at the FIFA Club World Cup amid President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown. "U.S. Customs and Border Protection is committed to working with our local and federal partners to ensure the FIFA Club World Cup 26 is safe for everyone involved, as we do with every major sporting event, including the Super Bowl. Our mission remains unchanged," the agency said Thursday in response to an inquiry by The Associated Press. The agency had previously deleted a social media post that said its officers would be 'suited and booted' for the opening round this weekend of Club World Cup games. FIFA President Gianni Infantino addressed questions about CBP involvement during an event earlier this week promoting Saturday's opener between Inter Miami and Al Ahly at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. 'No, I don't have any concerns about anything in the sense that we are already attentive on any security question," Infantino said. "Of course, the most important for us is to guarantee security for all fans who come to the games. And this is our priority.' Border Patrol agents have routinely been called in to help with security for large events, including the Super Bowl. They handle things like screening cargo shipments into stadiums for hazardous materials and contribute to emergency planning. At last year's Copa America final at Hard Rock Stadium, throngs of fans breached security gates and forced the game to be delayed. The Club World Cup opener Saturday comes amid protests in several cities over actions by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Long-time NFL executive Brian Rolapp leaves for PGA Tour
As expected, long-time NFL executive Brian Rolapp is leaving the league office, after more than 22 years. Via Josh Carpenter of Sports Business Journal, Commissioner Roger Goodell sent a memo to all teams on Thursday announcing that Rolapp is moving on. The memo says Rolapp will 'pursue other opportunities.' He's expected to be named the new CEO of the PGA Tour. Rolapp's departure comes at a time when owners expect Goodell to develop a succession plan. On the surface, Rolapp's exit takes him out of the mix. At a deeper level, Rolapp will be getting important experience as the chief executive of a sports organization, while still retaining the knowledge he developed during more than two decades with the NFL. So, basically, he could be back at some point — in theory. If not, he has landed in the top job with another sports organization. Sure, it's not the NFL. But what other sports organization is?
