At safari camp, students get acquainted with nature

Raipur: The first batch of the seven-day
Jungle Safari Summer Camp
2025, organized at
Nandanvan Jungle Safari
in Nava Raipur, concluded on April 26 leaving a lasting impression of
environmental conservation
on the young participants.
A total of 40 students aged between 12 and 18 enthusiastically participated in the camp, gaining valuable insights into the natural world.
Designed to foster a deeper understanding of nature and wildlife, the camp offered a wide range of activities such as bird watching, nature walks, seed collection, snake conservation awareness, insect and butterfly identification, wildlife conservation, and ecosystem studies. Creative exercises like nature craft and painting, along with yoga, physical fitness routines, and ecosystem-based games, were also undertaken.
The experience enabled the participants to develop a scientific perspective and a heightened sense of responsibility toward environmental conservation. Students described the camp as a unique and unforgettable experience, expressing eagerness to participate in similar events in the future.

The inaugural session saw inspiring addresses by Hakimuddin Saifi and Mohit Sahu. The closing ceremony featured Dr Manjit Kaur Bal from the Foundation for Ecological Security and Dr. Jagpal Singh Bal from the department of technical education, who emphasized the crucial role of youth in protecting the environment.
Nandanvan Jungle Safari director, Dhammashil Ganveer, interacted with the students during the closing ceremony, encouraging them to act as guardians of nature and carry forward the message of conservation to their communities. Encouraged by the response, the management of Jungle Safari announced the launch of the second summer camp, beginning May 1, 2025.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman V Narayanan on Tuesday said the agency is developing a rocket as tall as a 40-storey building, designed to carry 75,000 kg payloads into low earth orbit . Speaking at the convocation ceremony of Osmania University, Narayanan outlined the upcoming projects, including the NAVIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation) satellite, the N1 rocket, and the launch of a 6,500 kg communication satellite of the USA using Indian launch vehicles. 'You know, what is the capacity of the rocket? The first launcher, (Dr APJ) Abdul Kalam ji, which he built was a 17 tonne lift-off mass, capable of placing 35 kg in low earth orbit. Today, we are conceiving a rocket to place 75,000 kg in low earth orbit. August is one of those months when the sky offers a little more magic, cooler evenings, darker nights, and a sense of calm that invites us to pause and enjoy the beautiful moments to the fullest, as the night skies of August 2025 are offering something special. What are star clusters ? Star clusters are groups of stars that formed together and remain held by their mutual gravity, and are mainly of two types. Firstly, Open clusters, like the Hyades and Pleiades, which are relatively young, in the form of looser formations in the Milky Way's disk. Over time, they drift apart as nearby stars tug at them. Globular clusters, such as the famed Great Hercules Cluster, are dense, spherical congregations of hundreds of thousands of very old stars orbiting the galaxy's halo. The Hyades is around 625 million years old, and because of its clear shape, it's easy to spot in the early morning sky. The Seven Sisters The Seven Sisters, also known as the Pleiades, is a well-known star cluster in the constellation Taurus. You can see it rising in the eastern sky before sunrise. It's made up of over a thousand young, hot stars, but when it is seen through binoculars, the seven brightest stars stand out the most, and this is where the name "Seven Sisters" comes from. The cluster is about 444 light-years away, and its bright blue stars are so shiny that they can still be seen even if there's some city light around. Around mid-August, the Pleiades can be easily spotted about 10 degrees above the Hyades.
