After marrying Prince William on April 29, 2011, Kate Middleton appeared to develop a strong relationship with her husband's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. However, several royal experts have suggested that the late Queen shared some concerns about Princess Kate with friends, and allegedly went so far as to say she had a "Kate problem."
Royal expert Katie Nicholl discussed Queen Elizabeth II's viewpoint in the book William and Harry: Behind the Palace Walls. "If Kate was not with William at Balmoral then the couple were skiing or holidaying on Mustique," Nicholl explained (via the Daily Mail). "Kate was there so often the press dubbed her Queen of Mustique, a title that had previously belonged to Princess Margaret."
As a result, the late monarch was allegedly concerned about the optics regarding Princess Kate, with Nicholl writing, "Such frivolous displays of wealth were unpalatable to [Queen Elizabeth]."

Queen Elizabeth was apparently so concerned about Kate that she wanted Prince William to wait before proposing marriage. "The Queen believed an announcement should be postponed until Kate was settled in a career," Nicholl explained. According to the royal expert, an "insider" shared, "It is Her Majesty's opinion that if Kate is one day going to be William's consort, then she needs a proper job."
The Mail on Sunday (via the Daily Mail) quoted a senior royal aide who allegedly told them, "The Queen has had conversations with a few trusted friends about how to tackle what is being called the Kate problem."
Per the outlet, the aide suggested that the late monarch believed Princess Kate was "a nice enough girl," but Elizabeth had "no idea what Kate actually does."
Essentially, it seems as though Queen Elizabeth wanted Princess Kate to be "in a stable job" by the time Prince William proposed to her, per the Daily Mail.
Of course, the Princess of Wales did have two jobs prior to marrying Prince William. She worked for the Middleton family business, Party Pieces, before securing a part-time role with womenswear brand Jigsaw, where she worked as an accessories buyer.

From Snoop Dogg to Tom Brady, stars flock to English second-tier clubs

When Snoop Dogg sang the praises of Swansea City, it signalled the unlikely arrival of the latest celebrity owner in the once unfashionable Championship, English football's second tier. The American rapper has joined the Welsh club's ownership structure, investing an undisclosed sum to rub shoulders with former Real Madrid stalwart and World Cup finalist Luka Modric, who has also sunk his money into the club. "The story of the club and the area really struck a chord with me. This is a proud, working-class city and club. An underdog that bites back, just like me," Snoop said in an introductory video. In North Wales, Wrexham are dreaming of an extraordinary promotion to the Premier League this season on the back of the enthusiastic and lucrative support of Hollywood star Ryan "Deadpool" Reynolds and fellow actor Rob McElhenney. Meanwhile, former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady has a minority stake in Birmingham City, very much the second club in England's second city after Premier League outfit Aston Villa. His arrival in 2023 was not met with universal approval, with one fan asking "Tom Brady, who's he?" in the Amazon Prime Video series "Built in Birmingham: Brady and the Blues" which follows his early, whirlwind involvement in the club that includes the sacking of manager Wayne Rooney. Brady says his is a "visionary role" and he tries -- not always successfully -- to pass on his experience of winning seven Super Bowl winner's rings to the Birmingham players and their young manager, Chris Davies. But why do so many celebrities want to invest a slice of their fortunes into the Championship? Christopher Winn, course leader at the University Campus of Football Business (UCFB), told AFP the principal reason was because they see it as an attractive investment -- with the carrot of the Premier League's riches if the team can gain promotion proving irresistible. "There is the notion of long-term returns, in other words buying low (in a lower league) and selling high," Winn told AFP. "While on-field success and subsequent off-field returns are no guarantee, should the promised land of the Premier League be reached, a significant profit would likely be generated on any future sale of the club, in other words generating returns for investors well beyond their initial investment and operational outlay. "Granted, that does not mean the investors are all out to make a return -- football can often be a game of utility maximisation after all, and for some a personally funded passion project." - 'We could make money' - Brady's friend and co-owner at Birmingham, the New York-based investor Tom Wagner, reveals in the documentary they originally tried to buy a Premier League team but the deal fell through. Then the chance to snap up Birmingham presented itself. "We thought we could make some money, have a good return, which is our ultimate objective, so we just couldn't pass it up," Wagner says. Birmingham manager Davies has quickly felt the effect of having a sporting icon breathing down his neck -- he good-naturedly recounted to The Times that his attempts to relax on a family holiday in the Maldives were disrupted by Brady insisting on scheduling daily conference calls at the children's dinner time. In Wagner and Brady's first season, Birmingham crashed down into League One, or England's third division, but with Davies in charge they emphatically secured promotion to the Championship this year, romping away with the League One title with a record points total. That was largely due to the Americans' injection of funds for new players such as forward Jay Stansfield, acquired from Premier League club Fulham for £15 million ($20.3 million), a huge fee for League One. Celebrities are active behind the scenes at other Championship clubs. Birmingham kicked off the season last week with a 1-1 home draw against Ipswich Town, who count multi-million-selling music star Ed Sheeran among their financial backers. Ipswich confirmed last year that Sheeran had bought a 1.4% stake in his local club and he has been the shirt sponsor for the last four years – although in a cautionary tale for other star owners, his involvement did not stop Ipswich being relegated from the Premier League last season. gj/mw

The 1 Netflix Idea Harry & Meghan Are Refusing to Do Amid Reports Their New Deal Is a Massive ‘Downgrade'

The drama surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Netflix deal has taken center stage over the past few weeks. The pair's Netflix deal was set to expire in September, and reports indicated it would not be renewed. However, other reports indicated that this wasn't an indictment of the couple and didn't demonstrate a desire on Netflix's part to stop working with them. Instead, it all had to do with the streamer's changing strategy, which had them pushing away from the type of long-term deals signed with Harry and Meghan, and more towards deals that were of the 'first look' type. Former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama had exactly the same thing happen to them, and like Meghan and Harry, they signed another deal soon afterwards. More from StyleCaster Where Diana Would Have Stood in Harry & William's 'Profound' Feud After Reports the Heir 'F-ing Hates' His Brother The 1 Meghan-Related Ultimatum Charles Gave Harry Before Agreeing to Reconcile-'This Is About Father & Son' Related: Here's what each royal inherited from Queen Elizabeth 'We're proud to extend our partnership with Netflix and expand our work together to include the As Ever brand,' Meghan said in a statement when the new Netflix deal was announced. 'My husband and I feel inspired by our partners who work closely with us and our Archewell Productions team to create thoughtful content across genres that resonates globally, and celebrates our shared vision.' The streamer's involvement in the As Ever means the brand 'will continue expanding into new product categories with new items continuing to be released throughout the remainder of the year.' According to the Sun, the deal does not include the possibility of another documentary like the one Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made for their first Netflix project, titled Harry & Meghan. Instead, the deal is geared toward funding projects the couple wants to bring to the screen. The deal also means Netflix will continue to back Archewell Productions, with funding reportedly covering staffing and office costs. Season 2 of Markle's lifestyle series With Love, Meghan, will premiere later this month, with a holiday special, With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration, set to premiere in December. In addition, Archewell is set to produce two upcoming projects: Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within, a documentary about children in the Masaka region of Uganda, and Meet Me at the Lake, a romance adaptation of the novel of the same name by Carley Fortune. Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told Fox News Digital that the new deal was 'a clear sign that the Sussexes are not A-listers and that, despite the appeal of their brand, they have taken a bad hit.' 'There clearly is no repeat of the reported $100 million Netflix offered before. This first-look deal is certain to be less, probably a good deal less. It is true that Netflix continues to link with As Ever, Meghan's lifestyle brand, and that may be the most commercially successful part of this new arrangement.' However, others claim the deal isn't actually all that uncommon these days. Branding expert Doug Eldridge told Fox News Digital, 'While it appears like a negative downgrade on first pass, that's akin to reading only headlines versus the fine print,' Eldridge said. 'In other words, Harry and Meghan still have several other creative projects with Netflix, as well as an expanded relationship around the As Ever lifestyle brand. The latter will be a revenue generator for both sides, which is difficult to create (much less sustain) around traditional reality television.' 'This might not be a home run for Markle, but it's certainly not the strikeout critics might have been hoping for,' he added. Netflix's own statement made it clear they're happy to be working with the couple. 'Harry and Meghan are influential voices whose stories resonate with audiences everywhere,' Bela Bajaria, Netflix's chief content officer, said in a statement. 'The response to their work speaks for itself — Harry & Meghan gave viewers an intimate look into their lives and quickly became one of our most-watched documentary series.' 'More recently, fans have been inspired by With Love, Meghan, with products from the new As Ever line consistently selling out in record time. We're excited to continue our partnership with Archewell Productions and to entertain our members together.' So, they might not be doing another documentary series, but we'll be seeing plenty of other projects from Archewell on Netflix.
