EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: £4million mansion on a Caribbean island, favoured by Princess Margaret for hosting lavish parties, is set to be transformed
He was surely the only man who could have transformed an insect-plagued island of two square miles into a Caribbean playpen favoured by Princess Margaret. Alas, for Colin Tennant, 3rd Lord Glenconner, he not only let Mustique slip from his grasp but died before he could repeat his magic on St Lucia, to where he moved in 1992 – accompanied by his pet elephant, Bupa. But I can disclose that now, at last, the showman's vision is materialising some 15 years after his death aged 83, courtesy of discreet British brothers who already own 'a collection of luxurious properties around the world'. They're acquiring the peer's final property, Beau House, and have released an image showing how it will look after redevelopment. In his later years, Glenconner lived far more modestly than he had on Mustique where, at his 50th birthday party, local youths, resplendent in gold-painted codpieces, formed an honour guard as Princess Margaret crowned him 'King of Mustique'. In St Lucia he lorded it over not much more than a rum hut, a chicken restaurant and about 200 acres of mostly undeveloped land. But he managed to create another 'Great House', just as he had in Mustique, with the bonus that Beau is breathtakingly sited between the Pitons, twin 2,500ft volcanic hills on St Lucia's coast. After his death, the property remained empty during a seven-year legal tussle between his grandson, Cody, and estate manager and carer, Kent Adonai, to whom Glenconner had bequeathed his entire estate – to his family's bewilderment. A settlement awarded half the land and Beau House to Cody who, in 2023, put the lot up for sale at £18million, before deciding to sell the land in smaller plots in 2024, when the house and two acres were marketed for £4.35million. Diana's niece and her fiance on a high Lady Eliza Spencer, the niece of Princess Diana, is enjoying the high life with her fiance. The model, 33, announced her engagement to businessman Channing Millerd last week, and I spotted the couple (right) celebrating at Mayfair's highest restaurant, Shanghai Me. Earl Spencer's daughter was also joined by her identical twin sister, Lady Amelia, who was with her husband, Greg Mallett. The eatery is on the 28th floor of the London Hilton on Park Lane, where guests and diners can see directly into the gardens of Buckingham Palace. Pin-up Porter: I prefer cuddly men No need to take Ozempic or Mounjaro for a man who fancies romance with Gail Porter. The TV presenter, whose naked image was once projected on to the Houses of Parliament, is dating again and says she would prefer to be wined and dined by a plus-sized gentleman. Divorced from musician Dan Hipgrave, and now sporting a wig due to her alopecia, Gail, 54, says: 'I like fat people because they are cuddly. I'd like someone to take me out for tea, or dinner. And not call me a lot.' Gail, who works with charities including Prince William's homelessness awareness initiative, Homewards, says: 'I've been single for ten years and I'm comfortable on my own. I've been married once – and once is enough.' Nepo Nico is set to net a million Often labelled a 'nepo baby' due to being the child of Bafta award-winning actress Thandiwe Newton and film director Ol Parker, Nico Parker (left) is amassing a fortune of her own. I can disclose that the How To Train Your Dragon star, 20, is well on the way to making her first million. The actress channels her earnings into a private firm, Maggie Productions, and its first trading accounts reveal that it has £871,000 in assets. It made a profit of £172,000 after bills in the year to July 2024. Nico, who played a nanny in Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, is an ambassador for French cosmetics giant Lancome. While Prince William has reportedly enjoyed a getaway aboard a superyacht off a Greek island, he's giving travellers the chance to live like a king back home. The heir to the throne is letting a holiday home on his Duchy of Cornwall estate for a staggering £5,475 a week. Clement Barn, at Tresemple, sleeps up to 12 people and that price is for a week at Christmas. Seven days in August will set you back £5,016. 'This spectacular barn conversion has been stylishly decorated and furnished,' the Duchy says. Dame Joanna Lumley has discovered a silver lining to the ageing process. 'It's nice now that I'm granny age, as I can smile at anybody,' the Absolutely Fabulous actress, 79, says. 'In the olden days, if you smiled at everybody, you'd get into a few scrapes.' The former Bond girl admits to having a 'resting b**** face'. She says: 'Sometimes I catch myself in a shop window and think, "Holy smoke, you look dreadful", but if you smile, you don't.' Some famous figures enjoy meeting their fans. Pink Floyd star David Gilmour does not appear to be among them. Talking about being on tour, the guitarist, 79, says: 'When we're in these beautiful cities, we socialise, have a meal together and go out into parks or something, depending on who's around. 'Frankly, it's not easy. It doesn't take long before you're picking up a little trail of followers. It starts getting a little tiresome. I'm quite private. I love to play music for my fans. The rest of it I consider to be my private time.'

Look inside this palatial East Lothian dream home with a secret - yours for £1,300,000
As we approach Fringe by the Sea (August 1-10) and ice-cream weather hits, the urge to move to North Berwick is getting stronger. Our current favourite East Lothian property to hit the market is this gorgeous five-bedroom Arts & Crafts style house, which is situated on Dirleton Avenue and on the market via Coulters Property at a cool price of offers over £1,300,000. It's approached by a gated driveway, and is situated just a few minutes' walk from the sea, with a total floor area of a rather palatial 257 square metres. That's spread across three levels, with three living areas and the same number of bathrooms. Whoever bags the main bedroom also gets an adjacent dressing room and an en suite shower room. Other notable features include a vast lawn that's perfect for playing rounders, a sunken sun terrace for summertime Aperol spritzes, a contemporary kitchen and other open plan spaces, a home gym, a shower room that's lined with Portuguese tiles that are reminiscent of a mermaid's tail, and a family room with a fireplace. This lovely home is currently owned by a couple, Scott and Eithne Wedell, who told us more about their property, including its surprising real age, see below. Tell us about the building - when does it date from and are there any interesting features? The house has period property looks but was actually built in 2017 and to Passive House Standards, so it's actually very energy efficient and that results in low bills for a big house. It doesn't ever have any heating on the bedroom floor as it's not needed (which was a brave decision for Scotland). Any upgrades you've made while living there? We built it from scratch in 2017 so not really. Since moving in, most of our effort probably switched to a focus on the outside landscaping and the planting out there. We worked hard to try and 'settle' the house into the garden (and vice versa). Tell us about the decor and how would you describe your style? The house was largely designed in a style to match Glenconnor House, the grounds of which we sit in. It was built by Charles Tennant, who became Lord Glenconner, owner of Mustique, and he has an interesting story. With a nod to the Arts & Crafts movement of that period, the colours and design of our house's exterior are prominent, so we were both keen on injecting colour into the interior to make it both a little more interesting and also 'homely'. We also took elements of the period that had inspired the building and used it in the wood panelling, doors and other features. The painted staircase is very cool, where did you get that idea? The staircase is actually dark green and we wanted some colour to help bring out the runner carpet on the stairs. We're not sure which came first…the stair colour or the carpet. And where did you find your lovely slipper bath? The main bathroom's stone bath was sourced online from a company called Lusso. We wanted something a little different and they make some beautiful designs. What have been your happiest times at the house? This has been our house for the past eight years and in that time we've seen our kids grow up and we've also welcomed a new addition in our Irish setter, Seamus, so the house has always had a busy energy. The house has also hosted some great parties over the years, with guests roaming the house and the garden. At one party, a person thought it was really cool that we had a dedicated disco downstairs, though they were actually talking about the sitting room! Favourite rooms at the property? The kitchen and diner is the hub of the house. We eat and relax there and its openness to the garden means the picture is always changing. What's growing in the garden and what does well? As you can see from the pictures, the garden is very open and south-facing so it's easy to try lots of different plants. As well as classic Arts & Crafts country style to bring a lot of colour, we planted a plenty of roses and they have really thrived. The other major planting was the pleached trees, which we added to provide screening from the road. They were a slight gamble for the coast in Scotland but we also chose magnolia grandifloras that are now established and even starting to produce huge white flowers that look great. What are your favourite things to do in the area? North Berwick has a great vibe with lots going on. We probably spend most of our time either walking the dog on the beach, which generally ends with a coffee in town, or standing at a touchline for our kids' sports sessions. The food and drink options are great for a small village so we are spoiled for choice. Things like the Fringe by the Sea are amazing for a small place like this. Getting to see big acts in your home place along with a great festival vibe is brilliant in the summer. We may be moving but we're glad that it won't be far, as North Berwick will continue to be our home. For more information on the property at 28a Dirleton Avenue, North Berwick, which is on the market for offers over £1,300, 000, see 3 . Why Queen Elizabeth Told Friends Kate Middleton Was a "Problem" Early in Romance With Prince William
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. After marrying Prince William on April 29, 2011, Kate Middleton appeared to develop a strong relationship with her husband's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. However, several royal experts have suggested that the late Queen shared some concerns about Princess Kate with friends, and allegedly went so far as to say she had a "Kate problem." Royal expert Katie Nicholl discussed Queen Elizabeth II's viewpoint in the book William and Harry: Behind the Palace Walls. "If Kate was not with William at Balmoral then the couple were skiing or holidaying on Mustique," Nicholl explained (via the Daily Mail). "Kate was there so often the press dubbed her Queen of Mustique, a title that had previously belonged to Princess Margaret." As a result, the late monarch was allegedly concerned about the optics regarding Princess Kate, with Nicholl writing, "Such frivolous displays of wealth were unpalatable to [Queen Elizabeth]." View Deal Queen Elizabeth was apparently so concerned about Kate that she wanted Prince William to wait before proposing marriage. "The Queen believed an announcement should be postponed until Kate was settled in a career," Nicholl explained. According to the royal expert, an "insider" shared, "It is Her Majesty's opinion that if Kate is one day going to be William's consort, then she needs a proper job." The Mail on Sunday (via the Daily Mail) quoted a senior royal aide who allegedly told them, "The Queen has had conversations with a few trusted friends about how to tackle what is being called the Kate problem." Per the outlet, the aide suggested that the late monarch believed Princess Kate was "a nice enough girl," but Elizabeth had "no idea what Kate actually does." Essentially, it seems as though Queen Elizabeth wanted Princess Kate to be "in a stable job" by the time Prince William proposed to her, per the Daily Mail. Of course, the Princess of Wales did have two jobs prior to marrying Prince William. She worked for the Middleton family business, Party Pieces, before securing a part-time role with womenswear brand Jigsaw, where she worked as an accessories buyer.

Peek inside William's inner circle: How Kate Middleton's 'quiet' father became the Prince's secret advisor
He may have once been described as the 'quietest member of the Middleton family', but this didn't stop him from receiving a standing ovation for his speech at his daughter's wedding. Michael Middleton, the father of Catherine, the Princess of Wales, turns 76 today and, as is his nature, is likely to celebrate quietly, away from the public eye. While Michael and Kate's mother, Carole, generally maintain a low profile, the public has occasionally been granted glimpses into their lives. Katie Nicholl, a former royal correspondent for the Mail on Sunday, wrote in her book, William and Harry, that Michael and Carole met while they were working for British Airways as ground crew. 'Carole is a go-getter who knows what she wants and usually gets it. 'Yes, she likes the fine things in life, but she and Michael have worked hard to get them. 'When they dine in Mustique and she hears a plane coming into land, she puts on her best air hostess voice and announces the flight name and landing time - it's very funny. 'Michael is a man of fewer words, but you can tell he adores his family,' she wrote. 'He always sits at the head of the table and you can see his delight as he listens to his children chat about their recent adventures.' Carole established Party Pieces, a company making party bags in 1987, and by 1995 was managed by both Michael and Carole. The Middletons' business was successful at that time though later collapsed. Along with trust funds inherited by Michael from his aristocrat grandmother, Olive Christiana Middleton, the business enabled the family to continue the Middleton family tradition of sending their children to board at independent schools. All three children were sent to St Andrew's School, Pangbourne, and both daughters were sent to Downe House School, a girls' boarding school in Cold Ash, and Marlborough College, in Wiltshire. The British press created the term Upper Middleton Class to describe the family's social position. During an episode of the podcast Dynasty: The Royal Family 's Most Challenging Year, Nicholl described Michael as a 'really wonderful' father-in-law to William. 'I know they have a close relationship, and that William will often turn to Michael for advice,' she said. 'He has a great sense of humour and I think he's someone who is a cool head in a crisis.' Michael has rarely spoken publicly about his son-in-law, William, but royal observers caught a glimpse of their relationship in his speech at his daughter's wedding. Nicholl said: 'I always remember his father-of-the-bride speech on the wedding day and how he had everyone at the tables just in fits of laughter when he was recounting the story of William, who was training at the time as a helicopter pilot, buzzing in on the Middleton family home and sweeping in on his helicopter,' she said. 'Obviously, as a father, thinking, "What on earth is going on here?" while simultaneously realising this was the future king of England really courting his daughter in a pretty spectacular way.' Michael also delivered an emotive speech for his youngest daughter, Pippa, on her wedding day in 2017. Nicholl added that the closeness of the Middletons led to jokes among royal correspondents. 'They would always stick together. They were a very tight unit and they're still the same today.' Nicholl's co-host Erin Vanderhoof added that the Middletons had given Prince William 'a normalcy' that was previously lacking in his life. 'I think, as kind of a man as King Charles is, he was not necessarily the warmest, most open person,' she said. Speaking of the father of the bride's speech at Kate's wedding, one guest said: 'Mike's speech was all about Kate, and he did very, very well - what a difficult speech to do, but it was very well delivered. 'He talked about her childhood, how the couple met and what a wonderful couple they make.' At the royal wedding, Michael told guests: 'Today was everything I had hoped for and I'm thrilled that equality ruled the day. 'Everybody appears as equal and our two families joining together has been an easy process. 'I thank the Royal Family for welcoming us as easily as they have.' And this wasn't the only time we got a glimpse at William's close relationship with his father-in-law. On the day of William and Kate's wedding, Michael held his daughter's arm as she walked towards her husband-to-be and future King. 'We're supposed to have just a small family affair,' William joked to his father-in-law, Nicholl wrote in her 2013 book, Kate: The Future Queen. The day was a grand celebration and certainly not a 'small family affair' as William had quipped. William's joke perhaps suited his nervous father-in-law's sense of humour as in less formal settings, he is reportedly known to enjoy making people laugh. 'My father has developed this funny tradition of surprising us at some point by appearing in fancy dress,' Michael's daughter, Pippa Middleton, previously told The Spectator. 'He buys a new costume each year and typically gets a bit carried away. A couple of Christmases ago, he appeared in an inflatable sumo outfit.' Writing for Vanity Fair in April 2011, Nicholl wrote: 'He affectionately calls Kate's father Mike and on occasion Dad. 'Because they do everything together, friends call them the En Masse Middletons. 'They are a close knit family, which is one of the reasons William loves spending time with them and has joined his future in-laws on several trips.' A friend of the family told the author: 'William loves his holidays with the Middletons because they are so relaxed. The official christening photo of Prince George photographed in the Morning Room at Clarence House in London on October 23, 2013 'He's always saying how much fun Carole is. She's very young in spirit and a great entertainer.' Nicholl said the Middletons surround themselves with a 'very loyal circle of friends' who they trust not to divulge secrets about the Wales' family, which is why not much is known about what goes on behind closed doors. However, she revealed Michael and the rest of the family had been on hand to help out during Kate's cancer recovery. 'They've been an anchor for her, more so now than ever before.'
