WHEN it comes to travelling, Bobby Bolton dived in headfirst with nothing but £600 to his name, his dog, and a truck.
Now, he's been through 41 countries, gained a fiancée and has written a book called Truck It!.

Talking to Sun Travel, Bobby revealed all about his adventures, from his favourite islands, to affordable stops and the best way to travel on a budget.
Bobby Bolton set off to see the world two years ago, explaining: "Before leaving, I was pretty much broke, at one point I couldn't even buy a coffee on my way to work.
"I got the idea to travel in the pub after seeing an old Land Rover pull up and four pints later I told my friends 'I'm going to drive to Mongolia'.
"And I literally sold my life to be able to afford it."
When Bobby left his hometown of Wigan, he had just £600 and a huge truck, which he converted, being a builder by trade.
In his very first destination, France, Bobby met Marie - and they travel together with their two dogs in the kitted out truck.
By travelling on four-wheels, the pair can see a lot for not a lot of money.
They spend cash on necessities, like food and fuel, rather than forking out on all-inclusive hotels and restaurants.
Bobby told us: "What we do is a cheap way of travelling because, roughly, we can do it for £35pp per day."
The couple have seen a lot of countries, but when it comes to Europe, there's one place that really stood out: Slovenia.
Locals share their best tips for Albania from tropical beaches to 40p dishes… and the tourist traps to avoid

Bobby wants more travellers to see the world on four wheels

He told us: "Slovenia is definitely an up-and-coming place, and I couldn't recommend it more to anyone who's outdoorsy.
"If you love hiking, white water rafting and climbing, it's beautiful. There's a National Park there called Triglav.
"Triglav has been described as being in a 'time capsule' because lots of a lot of buildings are preserved in time - it's beautiful. It's a bit more expensive because it's very near Lake Bled which is relatively famous."
For any winter sport enthusiasts who love to ski, Bobby has uncovered one country that you might want to consider for your next trip.
"Slovakia was fantastic, especially for winter sports, and in the Tatra mountains, we got ski lift passes for just around £10 a day."
As for affordability, Bobby narrowed down five countries that stood out for being especially cheap.
He said: "The first is Albania which is affordable and has some underdeveloped coastlines that are amazing.
"In Georgia, we had the best bread which we bought for 50p from a woman on the side of the road.
"I have to mention Kyrgyzstan too and our favourite was Laos in South East Asia - two people can eat all day there for £10.
"And a place I actually haven't been to yet, is Morocco. It has so much history, and I know it's very affordable there."

Bobby says Kyrgyzstan is like being in Switzerland 200 years ago

The couple have also touched on a few tourist-y spots too.
Bobby told us: "We fell in love with the Greek islands. I know they're well-known, but they're beautiful, especially off-season.
"We were there in April a few years ago and managed to park on white sandy beaches.
"We went spear fishing and cooked them on a barbecue at sunset with some tasty Greek wine. It was a romantic couple of weeks we had island hopping. I think we hit five of the islands in the end, Chios, Leros, Kos, Samos.
Another destination that Bobby raved about was Kyrgyzstan - a landlocked country in Central Asia with huge mountain ranges and crystal clear lakes.
Bobby told us: "I would describe Kyrgyzstan as being Switzerland 200 years ago, there's not a lot of development there but the scenery is fantastic.
"You can hike up the mountains, swim in the Alpine lakes - it's the best place and it's really not touristy because there's no infrastructure.
"It's raw beauty, and it's really cheap. It's a third of the price in the UK in terms of food and fuel, which is what we spend our money on."

Bobby and Marie travel everywhere in their enormous truck

Bobby and Marie have been driving around the world for almost two years - and they love it so much that they are converting another truck to continue their travels.
Bobby spoke very highly of driving rather than flying or exploring by boat and would encourage others to give it a go too.
He said: "By renting out a four-wheel drive with a roof tent, or a campervan, you save a massive amount on hotels and you get the ability to mingle with the locals too.
"Generally, it's easy to park up anywhere too, and there are apps and maps that help with that. But for example in Kyrgyzstan you could park almost anywhere, by beautiful lake, at the foot of mountains.
One place that Bobby revealed is especially suited for travellers on the road is Windhoek, the capital of Namibia.
He explains that the country itself is very set up for driving and that you can even do a DIY safari.
"You can hire a pick-up truck with roof tent and camping equipment and explore the most beautiful places with wild ostrich, giraffe, rhino, to the Skeleton Coast.
"It's actually called a self-drive safari and I'd definitely recommend it. My dad isn't very well-travelled but he came to Namibia, hired a four-wheel drive and the week he was there he kept saying 'I'm going to come back here'."
Bobby is back in the UK but only for a short while as he and Marie are heading back on the road.
"We're doing up another truck, then we're going to the Arctic Circle, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, then Africa on the other side.
"Then we'll probably do the Americas, and then Australia to finish - potentially."

Eurostar chaos as trains cancelled & delayed due to power outage – leaving summer holiday travellers stranded

Services returning from Paris have also been cancelled Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THOUSANDS of passengers have had their travel plans thrown into chaos after the Eurostar cancelled services today. Holidaymakers are now facing delays of up to two hours at both London St Pancras and Paris Gare du Nord, while engineers carry out urgent repairs. A further five trains - out of a total of 18 heading from Paris to London - have been cancelled. Six others bound for London from France have been pushed back. A power outage in Moussy - 30 miles north of Paris - occurred at 8.30 this morning, triggering the slew of delays. As a result, services were forced to divert to slower lines which caused carnage on France's rail network. Since the problem is largely affecting French services, holidaymakers heading to Brussels or Amsterdam from London have largely been unaffected by the cancellations. The train operator took to X to confirm which services have been cancelled. A spokesperson for Eurostar said that the following services from London to Paris will not be running: #ES9022, 11.31 #ES9028, 13.31 #ES9044, 17.31 #ES9050, 19.01 Similarly, the following services from Paris to London will not be running: #ES9025, 11:37 #ES9039, 15:15 #ES9051, 18:10 #ES9055, 19:11 The spokesperson added: "We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused today." Passengers affected by the huge delays can exchange their tickets free of charge or request full refunds. Pictures taken at St Pancras show hundreds of Brits huddled around information screens, waiting for updates on when their train is going to depart. Some have taken to social media to vent their frustrations at the incident. One wrote: "How is it that the one day I choose to take the Eurostar they choose to cut power to the high speed rail in Northern France? "What are the odds?" However, according to lucky holidaymakers, regularly services are slowly being restored for some passengers. One person posted: "Thanks Eurostar for working through the track problems affecting all trains headed west from Paris Nord today. "Our train was late, but still running today. "Happy to be en route to London. We appreciate the work of your teams to make this happen." More to follow... Spain holiday plane left with SMASHED nose & forced to make emergency landing after crashing into bird in midair horror

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A PACKED holiday plane was left with a smashed nose and damaged engine after hitting a large bird midair - forcing 182 terrified passengers into an emergency landing. Iberia flight IB579 had just lifted off from Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport en route to Paris-Orly on Sunday when horror struck. The bird first struck the nose section, shattering the radome that houses the weather radar. But things got worse after the bird was sucked into the left engine, leaving several fan blades damaged. Photos taken on the ground reveal the full extent of the chaos - with a large portion of the aircraft's sleek new nose torn away, exposing its internal radar systems. Read more world news FLIGHT PANIC Brit, 15, sneaks onto flight to ITALY after losing parents at Spain airport The plane, a state-of-the-art Airbus A321NEO XLR, is one of the most modern in the world and was just four weeks old at the time of the incident. Panic quickly spread among passengers as the cabin filled with smoke. One woman said: "We couldn't breathe." Passengers described having to pull down oxygen masks themselves as the crew prepared for an emergency return. Spanish air traffic controllers confirmed the crew declared an emergency and requested to return to Madrid. They shared on social media: "The crew of the flight departing from Madrid-Barajas to Paris informs us of impact with bird. Ex- fighter pilot and son, 13, feared dead after plane crashed off Majorca as wreckage found near tourist hotspot "They request to return to Barajas in an emergency." Emergency protocols were immediately activated at the airport. The flight was given priority landing and directed to runway 32L, where fire crews and emergency responders were already waiting. Passengers disembarked via regular stairs after a safe touchdown around 25 minutes after takeoff. No injuries have been reported, according to Spanish outlet El Mundo. Air traffic controllers praised the crew's calm and professional behaviour, saying the incident "was a scare" but highlighted the tension onboard. A video captured by flyer Giancarlo Sandoval showed clearly shaken travellers donning oxygen masks during the crisis. In another clip from the cabin, user @ wrote in Spanish: "You never know when the last time you can say thank you, sorry, and I love you will be. "So if you're hesitating, do it." The jet has since been pulled from service for a detailed technical inspection. Iberia had only recently begun flying the A321XLR on shorter European routes to train crews ahead of long-haul deployments across the Atlantic. Sunday's terrifying incident is a sharp reminder of the dangers bird strikes still pose to modern aviation. And while this close call ended without tragedy, others haven't been as lucky. In December 2024, a Jeju Air flight in South Korea suffered a bird strike to both engines, crash-landing and bursting into flames – killing 179 of the 181 passengers onboard. 5 The strike shattered the nose's radome, the part of the plane that houses the weather radar Credit: X

Cops have warned drivers to avoid the area and motorists travelling between Huntly and Inverurie should use alternative routes. Police have also urged the public to plan ahead and consider postponing travel until the weather improves. Elsewhere, a number of campervans have been blown over on the Isle of Skye Officers have received reports of incidents on the A87 between Broadford and Portree. Police are urging motorists not to travel on the Bealach na Ba road on the Applecross peninsula. They have also urged campervan drivers to stay put in sheltered areas until the wind speed drops. The Met Office has a yellow weather warning for wind in place between 6am and midnight. A separate amber alert for wind is active between 10am and 11pm. Another yellow warning for wind has been issued for Orkney and Shetland between midnight and 8am tomorrow. Storm Floris LIVE- Scotland braces for 90mph battering as amber 'danger to life' warning issued & trains axed Storm Floris has already wreaked havoc with transport across Scotland. On the rail network, blanket 50mph speed restrictions are in place across the country. ScotRail has warned passengers that due to this, "significantly fewer" service will operate throughout the day. Some lines will be shut, while on other routes services will stop around lunchtime. Once the storm has passed, Network Rail engineers will inspect closed lines for any damage. Passengers have been advised that services will begin later on Tuesday across affected routes. Ferry services on Scotland's west coast have already been thrown into turmoil. Several CalMac sailings have been disrupted, while some have been cancelled altogether. Passengers have been urged to check the operator's website or social media for service status and updates. Some flights from Glasgow Airport have also been axed amid the unsettled conditions. Earlier on, Loganair cancelled its departures to Islay, Campbeltown, Tiree and Barra. Citylink bus services are so far unaffected and operating as planned across the country. Met Office weather forecaster, Aidan McGivern, told BBC Radio Scotland: "Storm Floris is deepening very rapidly right now out to the west of Scotland and it's expected to bring its worst winds to the Western Isles and the west coast mid to late morning. "It will travel across the north of Scotland later in the day, affecting parts of Caithness, Orkney, northeastern parts of Aberdeenshire. That's where the strongest winds will be, late afternoon, early evening. "It's the next few hours we're expecting it to arrive and it will slowly move across the country during the rest of the day. "The whole of Scotland will be affected by very strong winds, unusually strong winds. We're talking about widely 50, 60, perhaps 70mph wind gusts across the whole of Scotland. But there will be a narrow swathe of strong winds, which at the moment looking at the way Storm Floris is deepening, it's on track to hit parts of North and South Uist, perhaps into Lewis, Rum and Skye." He added: "It's taking the track that we were expecting and it's this narrow swathe of very strong wind gusts, 80 to 90mph wind gusts, that's the greatest cause for concern for Storm Floris." Cabinet Secretary Angela Constance said: "The Scottish Government and our partners, whether that's Transport Scotland, Police Scotland, our local, regional and resilience partnerships, have all been engaged in preparations since Friday. "It's imperative that government and our partners act swiftly to get messages out to raise awareness that Storm Floris was coming. and indeed Storm Floris is will and truly with us today. It's imperative that people follow advice because there will be significant disruption on our travel network. "It's imperative that people keep informed and avoid travel if you can. But you have to travel, please plan ahead. "This may be August, this is summer. But this is unusual weather, even for a Scottish summer, so people have to plan ahead and stay safe." Ms Constance urged people to avoid travel if possible adding: "There are particular dangers associated with high winds. "That makes some vehicles, high-sided vehicles, motorcycles and indeed pedestrians… travel, it's not without its risks." She also said the government's resilience room had been activated and that it will be watching "extremely closely" if there are any concerns around "care for people", as well as any impact on power lines. Police Scotland has also issued a warning for drivers as hazardous conditions are expected on some roads. A statement from the force said: "There is a high risk of disruption and travel conditions may be hazardous. Extra caution should be taken by all road users. "Plan ahead and avoid unnecessary travel. Consider delaying travel until conditions improve. "If you are travelling on the roads, prepare yourself and your vehicle for the conditions." Storm Floris is the first named storm to hit Scotland since Storm Eowyn in January. Keep up to date with our Storm Floris live blog.
