Sabah's perfect plans, perfectly forgotten

SABAH has seen decades of planning. Year after year, plan upon plan, workshop upon workshop. It is all just planning! planning! planning! And in the end pending! After all that meticulous mapping, what have been done? Are there any positive outcome? Are those blueprints or strategic planning ever being executed? The story begins with an outpouring of ideas. The State ministries and federal agencies have drafted regional structure plans that promised balanced growth across urban centres and rural hinterlands. Local land-use schemes charted zoning for agriculture, commerce and conservation. Detailed landscape proposals envisioned green corridors along our rivers and mangrove buffers on our coasts. Most ambitiously of all, the Institute for Development Studies Sabah (IDS) spearheaded a Strategic District Development Plan that wove every agency's initiative as well as the needs and wants of the grassroot people into one coherent roadmap. Phoong hopeful Malaysia–US friendship will spur new opportunities

KOTA KINABALU: Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe has expressed hope that the enduring friendship between Malaysia and the United States (US) will pave the way for greater collaboration and new opportunities for the state. Phoong met with Chris Carver, Political Counsellor of the US Embassy in Malaysia, during a luncheon here on Monday where they exchanged views on bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and potential areas of partnership to support Sabah's development. The minister highlighted recent investments by US firm ConocoPhillips in Sabah's oil and gas industry, noting the state's resources, location, and transformation as key factors drawing international interest. He also welcomed the Embassy's 'sports diplomacy' programmes in Sabah, which have included basketball mentoring sessions and cultural exchanges in football, saying such initiatives strengthened ties and inspired local youth. Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Association of Professional Technicians and Technologists (SAPTT) is determined to play its role as a platform for technologists and professional technicians in the State. SAPTT Chairman Ir Agus Irawan Hasanudin said it aims to assist and connect professional technicians and technologists with other parts of Malaysia, which in a way help elevate for their profession. 'The association also forged a strategic partnership with the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT), which markets a significant milestone in professional recognition for Sabah's technical community.
