A large share of the green budget this year will go into setting up 1 GW of renewable projects, with the capacity split equally between solar and wind, Vivek Chandrakant Tongaonkar, director (finance), ONGC, told ET. The company is also looking for acquisitions, he said.
"We have a target of 10 GW by 2030, which we think we should be in a position to comfortably reach," Tongaonkar said. ONGC NTPC Green Pvt Ltd (ONGPL), an equal joint venture between ONGC Green and NTPC Green, acquired full ownership of renewable energy platform Ayana Renewable Power for ₹6,248 crore last month. Ayana Renewable Power has a portfolio of 2.1 GW of operational and 2 GW of under-construction assets.

Last month, ONGC Green also completed the acquisition of PTC Energy for ₹925 crore. PTC Energy has a wind generation capacity of 288 MW. ONGC aims to spend another ₹35,000 crore on its core exploration and production (E&P) business in this fiscal, Tongaonkar said. The annual capital expenditure on E&P is likely to rise over the next few years if large discoveries are made and developed, he said, adding that the annual capex could rise to as much as ₹45,000 crore in 2028-29. With an aim to boost oil and gas production, ONGC has won several exploration blocks in the bidding rounds in recent years.
"We are conscious of the fact that we need to make more capex in future," he said, adding that the company continues to manage its cash flows in a way that it is able to meet its current and future spending requirements while rewarding its shareholders.

Gas Leak Continues For 7 Days, Himanta Sarma Says ONGC Response "Inadequate"

Guwahati: Gas continued to leak from an ONGC crude oil well in Assam for the seventh straight day, prompting Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to write to the Centre flagging "inadequate" response by the oil and gas major. In a letter to Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Puri, Mr Sarma said locals claimed that there has been "inadequate urgency and seriousness in ONGC's response" while trying to contain the leak. "Conveyed our concerns regarding the Barichuk Gas Blowout incident to Hon'ble Union Minister Hardeep Puri. I have requested him to direct ONGC to step up well control efforts in mission mode so that the situation doesn't aggravate further," the CM said in a post on X. The state government is providing necessary relief to the affected people at this hour, but a more proactive approach is needed from ONGC to mitigate this situation to restore normalcy, he added. The prolonged nature of the incident is causing considerable distress in the surrounding villages, as already more than 330 families have been evacuated from their homes and are being supported by the state government with basic relief and safety measures, he added. "I urge you to kindly direct ONGC to reinforce its technical and leadership presence on-site, adopt a more mission-mode approach, and step up engagement with the affected communities to restore confidence and bring the situation under control at the earliest," Mr Sarma told Mr Puri. The blowout took place on June 12 at Well No RDS 147 of Rig No SKP 135 of Rudrasagar oil field of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) at Barichuk of Bhatiapar. A private firm, SK Petro Services, was operating the well on behalf of the state-run Maharatna company. An official of ONGC had earlier said that it was an old crude well without production, and a perforation job was going on for zone transfer at the time of the blowout. The Assam government on Tuesday announced a financial aid of Rs 25,000 each to about 350 families affected by the blowout. According to the Assam Pollution Control Board (APCB), the air quality parameters are within the permissible limit as per the National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQ) standards by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Weeklong Assam gas leak: ONGC calls in global experts to contain uncontrolled well; no injuries reported yet

The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation ( ) is bringing in international well-control specialists to help contain an uncontrollable gas leak that has persisted for a week at one of its wells in Assam. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The leak began on June 13 around 11:45 am during routine servicing operations at Well No. RDS-147, when sudden gushes of natural gas were observed. Although no injuries were reported, the gas has continued to flow unchecked since the incident. In a statement released on Wednesday, ONGC said, 'ONGC is continuing its focused operations to control the gas flow from well RDS#147A.' The company added that its in-house experts are working round the clock, consulting closely with a global well control agency. While the name of the agency and the timeline for its arrival were not disclosed, ONGC confirmed that the mobilisation process is already underway. To mitigate the situation, the well has been successfully linked to a nearby production facility, allowing for partial diversion of the gas in a controlled manner. 'As an additional safety measure, water blanketing of the well is being continuously maintained,' the company added. Environmental safety measures have also been ramped up. Air quality monitoring by the Pollution Control Board, Assam, indicates that the air quality remains within permissible limits as set by the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) of the Central Pollution Control Board. 'A thorough analysis of the released gas has been carried out through sample collection, confirming that the gas is non-toxic in nature. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Being lighter than air, the gas is dispersing upwards into higher altitudes, minimising risk to nearby habitations,' ONGC's statement read. Noise levels around the site are also under observation and are reportedly within acceptable limits beyond a 500-metre radius. 'Safety of the community and the environment remains ONGC's foremost priority, and all actions are being taken in accordance with regulatory guidelines and industry best practices,' the company said, adding that only essential personnel are being allowed entry into the leak zone.

Chhattisgarh govt to form Tiger Foundation Society to control depleting number of big cats

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh cabinet on Wednesday decided to establish state Tiger Foundation Society, in a move for wildlife conservation and eco-tourism, which will focus on tiger conservation, over a concern towards deteriorating tiger population. Chhattisgarh presently has around 18-20 tigers. Chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai chaired the cabinet meeting at his official residence in Raipur and this decision was taken during the meeting. Officials said that a similar society has been operational in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh since 1996 and Chhattisgarh's Tiger Foundation Society will function under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and the state has four tiger reserves, since its foundation in year 2000. According to information, the Tiger Society will be self-financed, and will not put any additional burden on the govt exchequer. It will raise funds from individuals and institutions. This society will be directly involved in activities related to the conservation of tigers and other wildlife, the govt release said. IT added that the society will ensure availability of external funds, expertise and resources for conservation, which will provide new employment opportunities to local communities and maintain the environmental balance of the state, The statement said that the society will promote eco-tourism with the participation of the local community, which will not only increase tourism but also create employment and income opportunities for the local people. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Co-Founder of Google Brain, Andrew Ng, Recommends: "These 5 Books Will Turn Your Life Around" Blinkist: Andrew Ng's Reading List Undo Meanwhile, it will encourage environmental education, research and training, giving scope to conservationists. It will prove to be a milestone in the field of wildlife conservation in Chhattisgarh, which will protect biodiversity as well as give a strong base to promote eco-tourism, the release said. Cabinet also took other key decision and gave its nod to provide financial assistance to consumers for setting up solar rooftop plants in their houses under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana to promote renewable energy. Besides the Centre's fund, the scheme will be provided with additional financial assistance from the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited (CSPDCL) for installing solar rooftop plants at the homes of domestic consumers, which will vary based on the capacity of the solar plant (1 kW, 2 kW, 3 kW and above), the statement said. A total of Rs 45,000 will be provided for a 1 kW plant (Rs 30,000 as central assistance and Rs 15,000 as state aid), while for a plant of 3 kW or more, the assistance will be Rs 1,08,000 (Rs 78,000 as central assistance and Rs 30,000 as state aid), it said. Similar assistance has been proposed for housing societies/residential welfare associations. This grant amount will be received by CSPDCL in advance and will be disbursed later to the beneficiaries. A target has been set to install 60,000 such solar power plants in 2025-26, and 70,000 solar power plants in 2026-27. This will entail a financial burden of Rs 180 crore in the financial year 2025-26 and Rs 210 crore in 2026-27, officials said. CSPDCL will be the implementing agency of this scheme as per the guidelines of the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), it added. Cabinet approved the extension of certain benefits to communities that were technically excluded from the Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Scheduled Castes (SC) lists due to technical reasons. The Dehari Korva , Baghel Kshatri , Sansari Oraon, and Pavia/Pabiya communities' students will be provided state scholarships and access to hostels/ashrams under the Scheduled Tribes category. This move aims to ensure equal opportunities for students from marginalized communities. Cabinet approved the merger of the Vivekananda Institute of Social Health Welfare & Services (VISHWAS) with Ramkrishna Mission Ashram Narayanpur. This merger aims to streamline the operations of the organization and expand its impact. A major step towards agricultural education was taken as the Cabinet agreed to provide 94.290 hectares of land in Belgav village, Saja tehsil, Bemetara district, for the establishment of a Horticulture University. This land will be provided free of cost to the Horticulture Department. In an effort to promote local products and empower women's self-help groups , the Cabinet approved transfer of the 'JashPure' brand (under which herbal and mahua tea are being produced) to the state government or Chhattisgarh State Industrial Development Corporation (CSIDC) . This will help expand the market for these products, boost local raw material demand, and provide employment opportunities for tribal women. The transfer will not place any additional financial burden on the state.
