According to Mumbai University, this year's assistance marks the highest-ever annual disbursal under these schemes, surpassing previous years: Prof Ravindra Kulkarni, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mumbai, said, 'This initiative is a commendable step to support the educational journey of financially and socially disadvantaged students studying at Mumbai University. Every year, the university allocates a substantial budget to ensure that more students benefit from these schemes.' Students studying in affiliated colleges, recognised institutions, and academic departments of the university received support under a number of schemes, such as the following: –Book Bank Scheme: Rs 1.06 crore distributed to 27,471 students from affiliated colleges and 57 students from academic departments. –Financial Assistance Scheme for Economically Weaker and Backward Students: Rs 6.38 lakh distributed to 198 college students and 22 department students. –Aid to Scheduled Tribe (ST) Students in Colleges: Rs 1.01 crore distributed to 1,950 students (1,103 boys and 847 girls) from 21 colleges. –Support to SC/ST/DT/NT Students in University Departments: Rs 60 lakh provided to 120 students across various departments. Applications were collected online through a dedicated portal created by the Department of Students' Development to ensure streamlined and transparent disbursal. Meanwhile, the registrations for First-Year Junior College (FYJC) Admissions 2025 close today. Earlier it was exntended till June 3. Candidates can register on the official website at The revised admission schedule for Maharashtra FYJC 2025 has been announced. The provisional general merit list will be released on June 5, 2025, followed by an objection/ correction window from June 6 to June 7 for students to make necessary amendments. The final general merit list will then be published on June 8, establishing the final rankings for applicants. Quota-based admissions—including Minority, In-house, and Management quotas—will take place between June 9 and June 11. Subsequently, the College Allotment List will be displayed on June 10. Mumbai University will release the second merit list for its undergraduate courses today. Candidates who applied for the UG course can check merit list 2 at the official website – Students who had applied for courses like BA, BCom, BSc, BMS, BAF, BMM, BBI and BFM, among others, can check if they have secured a seat. Candidates who have been chosen are required to complete the document verification process and fee payment. Students must carry their original documents and photocopies of: –Class 12 marksheet –Caste or category certificate (if any) –Transfer and Leave Certificate –Passport-size photographs –Identity proof The first merit list was released May 27. Students who could not secure a seat in the first and second merit lists will have to wait for the third merit, scheduled to be released on June 5. Each list will be followed by a document verification and fee payment window of two to three days. Students will also have the chance to upgrade their college or course preference. This year, Mumbai University has received more than 8.1 lakh applications with students applying for admission to various courses of their choice. Of these, 3.80 lakh applications have been received for commerce and allied courses offered by MU and its affiliated colleges. In the arts stream, fewer than 50,000 applications have been received for the traditional BA course. This year, several courses in Mumbai University and its affiliated colleges have seen considerable drop in cut-off scores, especially traditional degree courses such as BA, BCom and BSc. At St. Xavier's College, which is known for its Arts programmes, the first merit list cut-off for this year is 90 per cent, marking a considerable drop from last year's 92.33 percent.
