In the prakaram (enclosure) is a small sanctum for Narasimha facing north. The Narasimha enshrined inside is said to be exactly like the image of Pavana Narasimha, one of the Nava Narasimhas (nine Narasimhas) in Ahobilam, the famous Vaishavite pilgrimage centre in Andhra Pradesh. The utsava-murti of this Narasimha shrine, worshipped as Prahlada Varadar is an image of Vishnu in a standing posture flanked by Goddesses Sridevi and Bhudevi, worshipped in the main sanctum. He holds the Sankha and Chakra in the upper hands, with the lower right hand in abhaya hasta (offering protection to devotees) and the lower left hand in gada hasta (resting on a mace).
The pushkarini (temple tank), situated behind the temple, is called Surya Pushkarini, which is very apt since Rama belonged to the Ikshavaku dynasty (Ikshvaku Vamsha), which claimed descent from Surya (Sun).

Govindaraja Swamy rides atop a lion in Tirupati

Lord Govindaraja took out a majestic ride on a lion in the morning and was paraded on a pearl-studded canopy in the evening, here on Wednesday, as part of the ongoing annual Brahmotsavams. On the third day of the nine-day annual festival, the processional idol was mounted on 'Simha Vahanam', a celestial carrier resembling a lion and carried on the four streets encircling the temple. The cultural troupes displayed colourful dance concerts and performed skits from various mythological episodes. Some artistes portrayed the role of 'Narasimha', the half-lion half-human incarnation of Lord Vishnu. In the evening, the idol was seated on 'Muthyapu Pandiri Vahanam', a pearl-studded canopy, and carried around the temple. Tirumala Tirupati senior and junior pontiffs Pedda Jeeyangar Swamy and Chinna Jeeyangar Swamy, TTD's Deputy Executive Officer V. Shanti and Assistant Executive Officer Munikrishna Reddy led the procession.

Last Updated: Narasimha Jayanti 2025 honours Lord Vishnu's fierce avatar. Learn the significance, fasting rituals, and heartfelt wishes for this sacred day of victory over evil. Narasimha Jayanti 2025: Narasimha Jayanti is a spiritually significant day for followers of Lord Vishnu. It commemorates the appearance of his fourth avatar—Lord Narasimha, a half-man, half-lion form who emerged to protect his devotee Prahlada and defeat the demon king Hiranyakashipu. This divine incarnation symbolizes the triumph of good over evil. Also known as Narasimha Chaturdashi, the festival is observed every year during the Shukla Paksha Chaturdashi of the Vaishakha month. On this day, devotees observe fasts and offer prayers to Lord Narasimha and seek his blessings. Narasimha Jayanti 2025: Shubh Muhurat According to Drik Panchang, Narasimha Jayanti will be observed on May 11 this year. Here are important timings: Narasimha Jayanti 2025: Wishes and Messages to Share The Story Behind Narasimha Jayanti According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Vishnu incarnated as Narasimha to vanquish the tyrannical Hiranyakashipu, who was immune to death by man, animal, or deity—day or night, indoors or outdoors. Narasimha defied these conditions by striking at dusk, on a threshold, using a form that was neither fully man nor beast. This act serves as a powerful reminder that divine justice prevails, no matter how impossible the odds. Why Narasimha Jayanti is Celebrated Narasimha symbolizes fierce protection and divine strength. Devotees celebrate this day to seek his blessings for protection from negativity, and to invite courage, prosperity, and righteousness into their lives. Puja and Fasting Rituals Devotees observe a fast starting the previous day, consuming only a single sattvic meal and avoiding grains. On Jayanti day, worship includes taking a Sankalp during Madhyahna and performing a detailed puja before sunset. Many stay awake through the night, completing the Visarjan Puja and offering charity the next morning. The fast is traditionally broken after the Chaturdashi Tithi ends post-sunrise.
