Eddie Dunbar remains sixth overall as Stewart sprints to Dauphine stage win
CORK'S EDDIE DUNBAR remains sixth overall after finishing comfortably in the main bunch on Thursday's fifth stage of the Criterium du Dauphine.
British rider Jake Stewart won a sprint finish as Belgian Remco Evenepoel held onto the race lead.

Stewart claimed his first career victory in a World Tour race, edging the bunched finale ahead of Frenchman Axel Laurance and Norwegian Soren Waerenskjold after the hilly 183km run from Saint-Priest to Macon.
Evenepoel, who took the yellow jersey in Wednesday's time-trial, crashed in the final kilometre but was able to resume without difficulty and lost no time in the overall standings.
Evenepoel is expected to battle with Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar for the overall victory in the Alps. Dunbar currently sits 30 seconds off the lead in sixth.
Friday's sixth stage is a hilly 126.7km run from Valserhone to Combloux near the border with Switzerland.

TADEJ POGACAR SOLOED to victory in the sixth stage of the Criterium du Dauphine on Friday to reclaim the yellow jersey and put himself firmly in contention for overall victory. Only Vingegaard managed to hang on to his wheel for a few metres before settling back, unable to keep up with his rival. It was an important marker for Pogacar to put down to his leading Tour de France rivals ahead of his title defence following the 26-year-old's sub-par showing in Wednesday's time-trial at the Dauphine. Of the other Irish riders, Ben Healy finished the day in 34th place while Archie Ryan was 64th, dropping six places to 45th in the GC. Liverpool agree potential British record deal for Florian Wirtz
Premier League champions Liverpool have agreed a club-record deal worth up to £116million to sign Florian Wirtz after Bayer Leverkusen finally settled on a fee for their playmaker. The Reds had two bids rejected, the last one of £113m which would have seen £100m paid up front with performance-related add-ons, but have finally got the deal over the line. Liverpool will still pay an initial £100m – comfortably surpassing their own record outlay – but the performance-related add-ons, if achieved, would make it a potential British record. Liverpool have broken their club record to sign Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz (Peter Byrne/PA) Leverkusen had valued the 22-year-old Germany international around £125m but regardless, Liverpool's overall outlay could surpass the £115m Chelsea paid Brighton in 2023 for Moises Caicedo – who turned down Anfield after the Seagulls had accepted an offer which was subsequently matched by their Premier League rivals. Striker Darwin Nunez was their previous record signing in 2022, although they have not paid the full £85m as he has not met all the requirements for certain add-ons to be due.
