Merak Capital, a leading technology-focused investment firm, licensed by Capital Market Authority (CMA), and Huawei Cloud, a pioneer in advanced cloud computing solutions, have announced a strategic partnership to accelerate the development of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's gaming industry through comprehensive technical and business support for gaming startups.
This partnership builds on the solid foundation established by the Merak Gaming Fund (MGF), an $80 million investment fund under the Gaming and Esports Sector Financing Program, overseen by the National Development Fund (NDF) in collaboration with the Social Development Bank and the Saudi Esports Federation. Playing a key role in advancing the National Gaming and Esports Strategy and the Ignite Digital Content Program, the fund aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 to drive innovation and growth in the gaming industry.
As part of its broader mandate, the National Development Fund (NDF) oversees an integrated development finance ecosystem that supports key sectors, including E-gaming and esports. Through initiatives like the Merak Gaming Fund (MGF), NDF plays a pivotal role in driving investment and innovation in the gaming industry, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030. By fostering strategic collaborations, NDF strengthens the sector's growth and positions the Kingdom as a regional leader in digital entertainment and economic development.
Through this partnership, gaming startups participating in the Exel Gaming Accelerator program will receive cloud infrastructure credits, enabling them to access Huawei Cloud's advanced infrastructure, to develop and scale gaming solutions, advanced technical workshops focused on cloud-native gaming development, personalized technical consultation for optimizing cloud architecture and costs. The initiative will also feature regular knowledge-sharing sessions, technical workshops, and collaborative events designed to foster innovation in the gaming sector.

Founded in 2022 by Salem Abu-Hammour, Faris Yaghmour, Abdulmalik Almeheini, and Youssef Said, erad provides Shariah-compliant, data-driven financing to SMEs in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, with funding access in as little as 48 hours. The investment will support erad's expansion in Saudi Arabia and beyond, strengthen local hiring, and enhance its product offering, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030's goals to boost SME participation in the economy. In 2022, erad closed a $2.4 million pre-seed round, backed by Nuwa Capital, VentureSouq, and Khwarizmi Ventures. Hajj Tawfiq emphasised the 'strong and strategic' relations between the two countries, highlighting the importance of intensifying private sector efforts to boost trade exchange and develop strategic partnerships, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. He underscored the role of chambers of commerce in boosting economic cooperation, especially in light of global challenges and shifting economic blocs. As head of the Jordanian side of the Saudi-Jordanian Joint Business Council, Hajj Tawfiq called for activating the council's role and implementing the recommendations made during its recent meeting in Amman. Hwaizi expressed the Saudi private sector's interest in expanding investments in Jordan, citing the Kingdom's strategic and logistical advantages. He announced plans to lead a 'large' delegation of Saudi businessmen to Jordan next month, with intentions to establish major warehouse facilities in Jordanian free zones to serve as export hubs for Saudi products to neighbouring markets. He also stressed the importance of holding the joint business council meetings at least twice a year to foster continuous dialogue, business collaboration, and cross-sector partnerships. Jordan's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Haitham Abul Foul reaffirmed the embassy's commitment to facilitating Saudi investment in Jordan and praised the 'productive' ties with the Federation of Saudi Chambers. Meanwhile, Hajj Tawfiq met with President of the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce Abdullah Obeikan to discuss means to enhance relations between the Amman and Riyadh chambers. During the meeting, he reviewed Jordan's Economic Modernisation Vision, a nationally endorsed roadmap aimed at driving growth, attracting investment and generating one million jobs over the coming years. Obeikan noted the progress of the Saudi business environment under the Saudi Vision 2030, citing notable growth, major projects and enhanced prosperity. The two sides agreed to sign a twinning agreement between the Amman and Riyadh chambers to boost cooperation, promote digital transformation and foster collaboration between their respective general assemblies. Hajj Tawfiq also extended an invitation to Obeikan and the Riyadh Chamber board to visit Jordan and explore investment opportunities.
