BOSTON (AP) — Ryan O'Hearn hit a two-out, tiebreaking single in the eighth and reliever Seranthony Domínguez got Rafael Devers to pop out to end the bottom of the inning, helping the Baltimore Orioles to beat the Boston Red Sox 2-1 on Saturday night and avoid a sweep of the split doubleheader.
Dylan Carlson added an RBI double for the Orioles, who have won two of their last 12.

Abraham Toro hit a solo homer for Boston — his second of the day — on a play that sent Baltimore centerfielder Jorge Mateo tumbling over the bullpen wall trying to make the catch in the ninth.
Devers grounded a single up the middle to drive in the winning run in the 10th inning as the Red Sox won the opener, 6-5.
Red Sox prospect Marcelo Mayer was promoted from Triple-A Worcester and made his major league debut, going 0 for 4 with three strikeouts. He replaced third baseman Alex Bregman, who went on the 10-day injured list with a strained right quadriceps.
Starting for the first time in the majors this season after going 0-2 with an 8.10 ERA for Triple-A Norfolk, Orioles 27-year-old left-hander Trevor Rogers retired 16 straight after giving up Kristian Campbell's leadoff single in the second.

O'Hearn singled off reliever Luis Guerrero after he replaced Brennan Bernardino (2-2).
Andrew Kittredge (1-0) worked a scoreless inning and Domínguez got the final five outs for his first save.
Making his fifth start after missing 2024 following elbow surgery, Boston starter Lucas Giolito worked six scoreless innings, allowing six hits with six strikeouts.

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Jacob Wilson had three hits and two RBIs, Brent Rooker drove in the tiebreaking run and the Athletics beat the Baltimore Orioles 5-4 on Friday night. Mason Miller got the last five outs to get his 13th save as the Athletics got back-to-back wins for the first time since May 4-5 and ended the Orioles' six-game win streak. Miller struck out two after coming in with one out and the bases loaded in the eighth inning. He then struck out Adley Rutschman looking on three pitches to begin the ninth before walking Ramón Laureano on a full count. Ryan O'Hearn flied out to left and Ramón Urías hit a comebacker to end it. Dylan Carlson hit his third homer — a two-run shot in the second off JP Sears to give Baltimore the lead. Jackson Holliday doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ramón Laureano to make it 3-0 in the third. The Athletics scored four runs to take the lead in the bottom of the third against Dean Kremer. Lawrence Butler drove in the first run with his 20th double, Wilson had a two-run single, and Tyler Soderstrom put the A's ahead with a run-scoring grounder. Holliday hit his eighth homer — a solo shot leading off the fifth — to tie it. He finished a triple shy of the cycle. AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Caden Bodine hit a go-ahead homer in the 10th inning, his second long ball of the game, Blagen Pado also homered twice, and Coastal Carolina opened the Auburn Super Regional with a 7-6 victory over the host Tigers in a contest that ended early Saturday morning. The game was delayed for nearly two hours in the middle of the sixth inning due to weather, with Coastal Carolina leading 6-3. Advertisement When play resumed, Auburn scored an unearned run in the sixth to get within 6-4. Eric Snow tied it at 6 with a solo shot over the giant War Eagle Wall in left field in a two-run seventh.
