UAE-Based Indian Businessman Kidnapped While on Holiday
The dramatic rescue came just days after the abduction, which was part of a Rs 10.5 million ransom plot. Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the case.
Riyaz Kilton, Chairman of the International Promoters Association (IPA) — a UAE-based network of Keralite entrepreneurs of which Shameer is a member — confirmed the news.
'I just spoke to his wife, and she told me the police informed them that he was found safe,' Kilton said over the phone from New Delhi, where he is currently travelling.
Police are still investigating the motive and possible links behind the kidnapping.

Kuwait Shuts Down 10 Methanol Factories After 23 Deaths, 67 Suspects Held
Kuwait's Ministry of Interior has dismantled a criminal network accused of producing and distributing toxic methanol that has left a least 23 people dead and more than 160 others hospitalised, most of them Asian workers, the state-run Kuwait News Agency Kuna reported. Nationwide security operations led to the arrest of 67 suspects and the discovery of 10 illicit factories operating in residential and industrial areas, the ministry said. The crackdown began when investigators arrested an Asian national in Salmiya with large quantities of methanol. He later described how the substance was prepared and sold, according to the ministry. Two more Asian nationals were detained in connection with the manufacturing and distribution, along with the alleged ringleader of the network, also of Asian nationality. Officials said intensified raids not only uncovered the factories but also led to the arrest of 34 other individuals wanted in unrelated cases. The Ministry of Health confirmed that 160 people have been treated for methanol poisoning in recent days. Symptoms ranged from mild to severe, with 31 patients placed on ventilators and 51 requiring emergency kidney dialysis. Some 21 survivors have suffered permanent blindness or impaired vision. The Indian Embassy, whose nationals are among the most severely affected, said about 40 Indian citizens remain hospitalised, some in critical condition. Indian Ambassador Adarsh Swaika and senior officials visited government hospitals to check on patients and pledged 'all possible and necessary assistance.' The embassy also set up a hotline (65501587) for families seeking information. The Interior Ministry warned that methanol poses an acute threat to public health and can cause immediate death. It vowed zero tolerance toward those who endanger lives, promising to intensify efforts to stamp out the trade in alcohol, narcotics and other harmful substances.

UAE-based Indian expat businessman's kidnap: Ex‑employee among 11 held
India, Kerala police have arrested eleven people, including a former employee, in connection with the kidnapping of VP Shameer, a UAE-based Indian businessman, in Malappuram district. The dramatic rescue involved a late-night car chase and a failed attempt by the kidnappers to flee across state borders. Shameer, who owns a pharmacy chain in Sharjah and other businesses in the UAE, was visiting Kerala on Tuesday night when he was abducted near his home in Pandikkad. CCTV footage showed a gang forcing him into a Toyota Innova. Police said the kidnappers had planned to extort millions of rupees and smuggle Shameer into the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu. The gang included the former employee and several individuals with criminal records. The investigation, led by Malappuram District Superintendent of Police R Vishwanath IPS and Perinthalmanna Deputy SP A Premjith, quickly traced the vehicle to Chavakkad in Thrissur district, where Shameer was held and reportedly assaulted. The breakthrough came after authorities received a ransom call demanding Rs 10.5 million. The swift operation successfully rescued Shameer, highlighting the police's coordinated efforts across districts to foil the high-risk kidnapping plot.

Blast in Syria's Idlib Kills at Least Two, Causes Panic
A powerful explosion shook Syria's northwestern province of Idlib on Thursday, killing at least two people and injuring four others, state media reported. The cause of the blast is still unknown. Residents in the western outskirts of Idlib city said they heard loud explosions, while state news agency SANA described it as 'an explosion of unknown origin near the city.' The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based monitoring group, said the blast occurred at a base for non-Syrian fighters that included a weapons depot. Thick smoke filled the area, causing panic among local residents. This incident follows a deadly series of explosions in Idlib late last month, which killed at least 12 people and injured more than 100. Those blasts took place at a weapons depot linked to the Uyghur jihadist group Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP) in northern Idlib. Authorities have not yet confirmed what caused the recent explosions.
