KLIA assault: Immigration union demands swift action, better security
Its president, Ajeet Singh, said the union takes the incident seriously and has urged the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) to take proactive measures to safeguard officers on duty as well as travellers.
He said provoking or assaulting civil servants is subject to legal action, regardless of whether the perpetrator is a Malaysian or foreign citizen.
"Any action that contravenes Malaysian law can be considered a challenge to the country's legal sovereignty, and every tourist is obliged to respect the laws of the country they are visiting," he said in a statement today.
He also urged the Home Ministry to revisit its proposal to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at all counters to enhance monitoring of immigration procedures.
He called for the investigation to be expedited and for the perpetrators to be prosecuted without compromise.
"The union will continue to provide full support to the officers involved, including welfare and legal assistance, until the justice process is completed.
"Immigration officers are the front line of the country's sovereignty.
"Abusing them while on duty is not only rude, but also tarnishes the country's image and threatens security at international ports of entry," he said.
Earlier, a Chinese national was arrested after allegedly behaving aggressively and injuring an immigration counter officer during a departure check at KLIA 1.
The incident occurred at 7.40pm when the woman, accompanied by a man and two children, approached the counter for immigration clearance.
The officer on duty discovered that they had no records of entry into Malaysia and referred the matter to a supervisor for further verification.
The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency said the suspect became agitated when instructed to allow other passengers to proceed while checks were carried out.
She allegedly hurled abuse at the officer, pulled her headscarf, and pushed her head towards a pillar in front of the counter.

Two foreign nationals detained at KLIA for illegal entry attempt
SEPANG: Two foreign nationals were detained at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 2 yesterday afternoon after failing to provide valid entry records. The Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) stated that the men, aged between 30 and 40, were from India and China. They were stopped during immigration checks around 5 pm when officers noticed suspicious security stamps on their passports. Further checks through the MyIMMs system confirmed no entry or exit records for both individuals. 'Ironically, the stamps on their passports indicated entry via Bukit Kayu Hitam ICQS in Kedah and Sultan Abu Bakar ICQS in Johor,' said AKPS. Both suspects were detained under reasonable suspicion of violating the Immigration Act 1959/63. They are currently held at the KLIA Terminal 2 Immigration Depot pending further investigation. The case has been handed over to the Selangor Immigration Enforcement Division. AKPS is investigating possible syndicate involvement and warned of disciplinary action against any complicit officers. - Bernama

Published on: Monday, August 18, 2025 Published on: Mon, Aug 18, 2025 By: FMT Reporters Text Size: According to the charge, Fang Fuyuan had intentionally caused hurt to immigration officer Nurdiana Atirah Shapinaz Abdul Rahman, who was working at the KLIA Terminal 1 immigration counter. PETALING JAYA: The Sepang magistrates' court today sentenced Chinese national Fang Fuyuan, 31, to a month in prison and a fine of RM2,000 for hurting an immigration officer at KLIA Terminal 1 on Aug 13. Berita Harian reported that she pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 332 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant. For this offence, a person can be jailed up to three years, fined, or both, upon conviction. According to the charge, she had intentionally caused hurt to immigration officer Nurdiana Atirah Shapinaz Abdul Rahman, who was working at the immigration counter. Fang's lawyers Tai Ying Fong and Jason Anthony had appealed for a lighter sentence on the basis of her young age and lack of a criminal record. '(Fang) has a husband and two small children, aged one and a half and five years, who are completely dependent on her. 'The family is in Malaysia without the support of other family members. 'This was a case of misunderstanding and miscommunication with the immigration officer. It occurred spontaneously and was not planned,' they said. However, deputy public prosecutor Luvithaa Veerasamy pressed for a fitting sentence that would serve as a deterrent to the accused and the public. Fang will serve her sentence starting from the date of her arrest on Aug 13. If she fails to pay the RM2,000 fine, she will serve another two months. Earlier, KLIA deputy police chief Albany Hamzah said statements from four people, including the victim, were recorded in connection with the case. The incident took place at about 7.40pm at the departure hall, when the group was undergoing immigration clearance. The woman was said to have acted aggressively and injured an immigration officer during the process, claiming she was worried about missing her flight. The officer sustained a swollen left eye and pain on the right side of her head following the assault. She was sent to Cyberjaya Hospital for treatment. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
