Counter intelligence wing of J&K Police conduct raids across Valley
Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) on Friday conducted searches at multiple locations across Valley and seized several digital devices.
Jammu and Kashmir Police said that raids were conducted by CIK officers after obtaining search warrant from the court of special judge, designated under NIA Act, Srinagar, in a terror linked case FIR No. 07/2023 U/S 13, 18, 38, 39 ULA(P) Act r/w 120-B IPC of P/S CIK Srinagar.
'During investigation of the instant case, suspicious technical signatures were traced at different locations of districts Budgam, Pulwama, Kupwara, Shopian, and Srinagar. The suspects were found using suspected encrypted messaging applications,' police spokesman said, adding that during further analysis, various individual suspects were found using a 'specific encrypted messaging application' which is widely used by terrorists handlers from across for coordinating and executing a variety of terrorist related activities including recruitment into terrorist ranks. 'These individuals /users are suspected to be in touch with suspicious entities across the border. As such, maintaining the element of surprise, the searches were meticulously planned and conducted.'
Police said that during raids, incriminating material in the form of SIM cards, mobile phones, tablets and other digital devices having bearing on the investigation of the case have been recovered and seized in the instant case. 'Analysis of the data would follow and leads that would emerge would become the basis for further investigation.'
Police said that the operation is aimed at to uncover crucial evidence, curb illicit activities, prevent the misuse of communication devices, such as mobile phones, and dismantling the terror ecosystem in the UT by identifying terrorist associates, over ground workers (OGWs) supporting and abetting terrorism and also ensuring legal action against them as envisaged by the law of the land.

Burglar who invested 10L, disguised as woman held
Mumbai: A 44-year-old man who amassed enough wealth through committing burglaries to be able to invest in properties has been arrested by Malad Police. On tracing Singh and questioning him, they learnt that he was involved in eight break-ins in the past three months at Borivli, Kandiali, Malad West and Dindoshi. He had never been arrested earlier for any of the crimes. Singh was a resident of Kharodi village in Malad and a native of Bihar. Police discovered that Singh had paid an individual Rs 10 lakh to invest in a plot of land in Bihar and purchased a house for Rs 6 lakh in Malwani from the ill-gotten wealth. tnn

A Muslim lawyer has stepped forward to defend Sharmishta Panoli, the 22-year-old law student arrested over a controversial video, calling her a 'good student' and raising serious questions about the Kolkata Police's handling of the to India Today TV on Monday, advocate Md Shamimuddin alleged procedural lapses in her arrest. 'Technically, the investigating agency should have served her with a notice under Section 35(3) of BNSS. They went to her house, found it locked, and without trying other means like email or WhatsApp, they directly moved the court for a warrant,' he said, accusing the police of skipping mandatory steps."If you do not find a person who is at home, and you want to serve a notice to that person, there is a law that you can affix that particular notice at a conspicuous place of her home, maybe at the door of her home. All attempts were made to serve notice, but she was found absconding on every occasion,' it said in a post on court on Tuesday, the Calcutta High Court refused interim bail to Panoli, observing that 'freedom of speech does not mean hurting religious sentiments'. The bench noted India's diversity and added, 'We must be cautious... Heavens will not fall if someone is kept in custody for a few more days.'While critics have slammed Panoli for using derogatory language in response to a social media user questioning Operation Sindoor, Shamimuddin said the case is still under investigation. 'Let the police investigate the matter. If they file a charge sheet, then we will go for trial,' he asked whether his faith was offended by Panoli's words, Shamimuddin said, 'If something wrong has been done by her, it will come out in the charge sheet... Everyone who has erred should be pardoned, if that person comes out clean.''She is a fourth-year student of Symbiosis, Pune, and she's a good student. That is the reason she landed up in Symbiosis,' he had earlier issued an unconditional apology and deleted the video, but the controversy had already snowballed, leading to multiple FIRs. The High Court has clarified that all related FIRs will now be merged under a single case being investigated in Kolkata. The matter will next be heard on June 5.

Major heist at Canara Bank: Nearly 59 kg gold and cash looted in Karnataka
The incident was reported to the Regional Head, who arrived at the branch with officials from the Regional Office by 1:00 p.m. Police were informed shortly thereafter and reached the location at approximately 1:30 p.m. Upon inspecting the premises, police and bank officials found the main door of the strong room intact. However, the inner grill gate had been cut and bent. Inside, one of the steel almirahs used to store gold ornaments was found empty. A total of 1,373 gold packets, weighing 59,348.94 grams gross, were reported missing. Approximately 372 grams of gold was found scattered inside the premises, leading to a net loss of 58,976.94 grams. In addition, another almirah containing cash had been opened, and Rs 5,20,450 was missing. The culprits also removed the CCTV NVR unit and its hard disk, effectively disabling all surveillance recordings during the break-in. The branch had last operated on 23 May, and the burglary is believed to have occurred between 7:00 p.m. that evening and 11:30 a.m. on 25 May, coinciding with the fourth Saturday and Sunday bank holiday closure. A delay in filing the police complaint was attributed to the time taken to physically verify and reconcile the remaining gold inventory. Police have registered a case and launched a full-scale investigation. Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi confirmed that eight special teams have been constituted to probe the case.
