Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan requests Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to consider establishment of terminal market complex in Sambhalpur
New Delhi [India], May 28 (ANI): Union Minister and Lok Sabha MP from Sambalpur, Dharmendra Pradhan, met Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday and requested his consideration for the establishment of a Terminal Market Complex in Sambalpur.
In a post on X, Pradhan wrote that the establishment would serve as a transformative step in strengthening horticulture value chains, improving farmer incomes, reducing post-harvest losses, and providing a modern market ecosystem for the region.
'Met my senior colleague Shri @ChouhanShivraj ji who is working assiduously to improve the lives of our farmers. Requested his kind consideration for the establishment of a Terminal Market Complex in Sambalpur. This will serve as a transformative step in strengthening horticulture value chains, improving farmer incomes, reducing post-harvest losses and providing a modern market ecosystem for the region,' the post read.
Earlier today, Pradhan met the Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav to discuss several environmental issues related to his Lok Sabha Constituency of Sambalpur, Odisha.
Member of Parliament (MP) from Sambalpur, Dharmendra Pradhan, requested the intervention of the Environment Minister in the expansion and upgradation of Sambalpur Zoo to the 'Medium Zoo' category. This expansion would facilitate the induction of new species and the development of educational and research facilities.
He also urged for Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary to get the Tiger Reserve status, which will promote tiger conservation in the region and give a boost to tourism.
Dharmendra Pradhan also requested the Environment Minister Yadav's attention to the urgent need for the development of Nagar Vans in the industrial belt of Sambalpur-Jharsuguda-Brajrajnagar, the coal belt of Angul-Dhenkanal, and the heat-affected region of Titilagarh-Bolangir of Odisha under the Nagar Van Yojana (NVY).In alignment with the Government's vision of 'One Earth, Many Efforts,' as articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the establishment of Nagar Vans in urban clusters is aimed at ensuring environmental sustainability and community well-being.
In June 2022, PM Modi launched the 'Lifestyle for the Environment - LiFE Movement' with the vision of 'One Earth, Many Efforts'. The Nagar Van Yojana was launched by the Ministry for Environment, Forest and Climate Change in 2020, with an aim to develop 400 Nagar Vans and 200 Nagar Vatikas. The objective of the scheme is to enhance the tree outside forests and green cover, enhancement of biodiversity and ecological benefits to the urban and peri-urban areas.
In September 2024, Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav highlighted the creation of 3,776 hectares of Nagar Van and Vatikas under the scheme in 64 National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) cities with Rs 142 crore sanctioned, encouraging other cities to utilise this scheme to develop green spaces. New Delhi: Sustainability is at the heart of our maritime policy, and we are committed to achieving net zero emissions at major ports by 2047, said Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday. During an interaction with students of the Blue MBA Executive Programme at Copenhagen Business School (CBS), Sonowal outlined India's strategy to transform its maritime infrastructure through flagship initiatives like the Sagarmala Programme and Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047. 'These efforts aim to build modern, multimodal logistics systems while prioritising clean energy, digital shipping and green port development,' the Minister added. He described India as a 'compelling story of inclusive, innovative, and sustainable growth,' and said that the country's vision is to become the global epicentre for green shipping and clean trade corridors. 'The discussion also covered India's ambitious goals for maritime decarbonisation, including the use of green hydrogen and cutting-edge digital solutions,' the Union Minister stated. Highlighting the growing cooperation between India and Denmark in green maritime technologies, Sonowal praised Denmark for its global leadership in energy efficiency and digital shipping. He said India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is modernising its maritime sector through policy reform, infrastructure investment, and international collaboration. 'India's vast coastline and heavy reliance on sea trade -- over 90 per cent of its volume -- make the maritime sector a central pillar of its economic strategy,' the minister noted. He also shared the government's plans to scale up maritime education and workforce, aiming to increase India's maritime professionals from 7.86 million to nearly 40 million by 2047. He highlighted a sharp rise in women seafarers, from just 1,699 in 2014 to over 7,000 in 2024, as a sign of the country's focus on diversity and inclusion. His visit was marked by a detailed conversation with maritime professionals and faculty members, focusing on India's commitment to sustainable development and economic growth. Pak Generals Want Conflict To Remain Relevant: Ravi Shankar In Germany
BJP MP and leader of the all-party delegation Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Pakistan's military establishment for supporting terrorism, saying that its Generals want conflicts to remain relevant and use terrorists as a tool to destabilise India. Addressing a community event with the Indian diaspora in Berlin, Prasad pointed out that while both India and Pakistan were born on the same day, the former has made remarkable progress in IT and space, in contrast to Islamabad. "India and Pakistan were born the same day. Where are we in India, and where are they (Pakistan)? India has become a major global IT power in the world. India has become an emerging space power in the world. The startup movements here are now globally recognised. India has also become the second biggest mobile phone manufacturer in the world. We have brought digital transformation with equity and justice," ANI quoted Prasad as saying. Prasad claimed that Pakistan only knows how to prepare world-class terrorists under its military leadership. He said that wherever there is a terrorist, he is either a Pakistani or trained in Pakistan. "What Pakistan is doing is creating terror machines. How to create world-class terrorists under their (military) Generals. They attacked us four times and lost every time. We never attacked; they were the ones who always started the war. It is because they are under the control of Generals and not political leaders. Generals want conflict to keep themselves relevant, and terrorists are the instruments through which they execute. Wherever there is a terrorist, either he is a Pakistani or trained in Pakistan," he added. Prasad also spoke about the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and India's decisive response through Operation Sindoor on May 7, noting that Operation Sindoor remains paused but ready to resume based on Pakistan's actions. "Pahalgam attack happened on April 22. We attacked on May 7 and hit the terrorist camps. If Pakistan has to talk, it must directly speak to us. Our message was stern and straight: If you stop, we stop. If you fire, we will give a stronger reply. Operation Sindoor is on pause, subject to the good behaviour of Pakistan. It has not ended," he stated. An all-party delegation, led by Ravi Shankar Prasad, is currently visiting Germany as part of the Indian government's initiative to engage with key partner nations, including members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to convey India's resolute and united stand against terrorism. This initiative follows the tragic April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 innocent civilians lost their lives to gunfire from terrorists.
