
DGP launches grievance redressal unit for cops
Lucknow: In a major initiative aimed at ensuring swift and transparent resolution of grievances raised by police personnel, the Police Grievance Redressal Unit (PGRU) has been set up in Sultanpur district under the direct supervision of DGP Prashant Kumar.
The initiative was implemented by Sultanpur SP Kunwar Anupam Singh, who formed the unit as a Single Window System to streamline the handling of service-related issues faced by police staff. The PGRU functions directly under the SP's supervision at the district police office.
An experienced inspector well-versed in police service matters was appointed as the in-charge of the unit. He can be contacted directly via CUG number 7755068810.
Through the PGRU, police personnel can now seek redressal for various service issues such as salary discrepancies, arrears, increment delays, GPF-related concerns, nominee/address/education record updates in character rolls, medical reimbursements, LPC delays, transfer documentation, and other general service-related matters.
A senior officer at the DGP Headquarters said that personnel can submit applications through respective station or branch in-charges, to any gazetted officer, during monthly Sainik Sammelans (police staff conferences), directly to the PGRU, and via WhatsApp at 7755068810.
The PGRU in-charge is responsible for coordinating with all concerned branches — and even inter-district offices if necessary — to ensure timely resolution, thus eliminating the need for personnel to visit multiple offices. The SP also engages directly with other districts when needed. The in-charge submits daily progress reports to the SP and informs concerned police personnel once their issue is resolved.

Six interstate drug peddlers held in H'bag
1 2 Hazaribag: A total of six drug peddlers were arrested with 15 kg opium valued at Rs 1.5 crore. Contraband, including 28.57 kg raw materials, three motorcycles, six mobile phones, and Rs 66,000 were seized, SP Anjani Anjan said on Thursday. SP Anjani said, "A team led by Hazaribag (headquarters) SDPO Amit Kumar Anand conducted searches at Lohsinghna, Korrah, and Sadar police station areas. Four smugglers were held from Lohsinghna. They were identified as Pintu Kumar Dangi (25) and Mukul Dangi (28), both residents of Bariatu village under Chatra (Sadar), besides Avinash Kumar (19) and Rahul Pandey (21), both residing in Giddor of Chatra district. Mukul had a criminal record at Ghaziabad police station under the NDPS Act. Avinash and Rahul had six criminal cases against them." "In Korrah, 2.5 kg opium, materials for making opium doda weighing 21.7gm, and Rs 66,000 in cash were confiscated. The arrested were identified as Rahul Yadav (23) and Mohammed Arshad Ansari of Thotwa village under Katkamsandi police station limits. Rahul Yadav belonged to Kendua in Chatra," he added. The SP further said, "From Lohsinghna, 10.8 kg opium and doda valued at 6.67 lakh were seized." Preliminary probe found that the consignment was being transported from Chatra to across the country, police said.

Depositors allege police inaction on complaints on Farmfed fraud case
Thiruvananthapuram: Several depositors alleged that Museum police were reluctant to register FIRs against accused in the Farmfed (Southern Green Farming and Marketing Multi-State Cooperative Society) deposit fraud case. The depositors said only six FIRs were registered by police, while the number of complaints given was more than 20. They claimed that it was a tactic by the police to give enough time for the accused to settle the issue. Kuravankonam native Emilda, 71, on whose complaint the first FIR was registered on May 16, alleged that she filed the complaint in March and Museum police registered it only after she approached the city police commissioner complaining about the delay in registering the FIR. Meanwhile, the accused created a WhatsApp group of the depositors who have not yet filed any complaints, urging them not to take legal action and to cooperate with them to clear the concerns, the complainants alleged. So far, police have arrested Farmfed chairman Rajesh Chandran Pillai and managing director Akhil Francis. The other accused in the case — manager of Farmfed's Sasthamangalam branch, marketing head, territory manager and five agents —-are still absconding. They said that Pillai, who is in jail, posted a message in the WhatsApp group explaining plans to overcome the crisis and he also sought the cooperation of the depositors. The depositors alleged that Museum police directed them to approach other police stations since the branches of the bank, from where the amounts were transferred to Farmfed's Sasthamangalam branch, were located in other station limits. "When we reached other stations, we were asked to go back to Museum police as the branch was located within its limit. Moreover, the police blatantly stated that we will not get our money back," said Deepa Rani, a depositor.

Cyberfrauds digitally arrest retired doctor & wife, extort Rs 1.95 crore
Patna: A retired doctor and his wife in the city were kept under digital arrest for 12 days by cyberfrauds, who impersonated as top law enforcement officials and extorted Rs 1.95 crore from them. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The couple, terrorised by continuous threats and fake courtroom visuals on video calls, transferred the money in multiple instalments over two weeks. The case came to light when the elderly couple grew suspicious and lodged a complaint with the Cyber police station in Patna on Wednesday. Confirming this, DSP Raghwendra Mani Tripathi, in charge of the cyber police station, said on Thursday, "The couple—Dr Radhe Mohan Prasad, a retired physician from the PMCH, and his wife Chhabi Prasad, who live in Hanuman Nagar—were under digital arrest since May 23. The cybercriminals posed as CBI officials, lawyers, and judges, and threatened them with violence. Out of fear, the couple visited their bank multiple times and made six RTGS transfers amounting to Rs 1.95 crore." Their ordeal began on May 21 when they received a phone call from an unknown number based in Mumbai. The caller claimed to be a CBI officer and informed them of a money laundering case registered against them at the Colaba police station in Mumbai. Saurabh Mohan, the couple's son, who also is a doctor, recounted, "My parents were at home when the call came. The man said he was from the CBI and claimed a money laundering case had been filed against both of them. Soon after, they started receiving video calls in which people dressed as police officers were visible." The fraudsters told Dr Prasad that a SIM card, issued in his name using his Aadhaar card, was linked to multiple money laundering cases. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Within an hour of the first call, they began bombarding the couple with long video calls—some lasting up to 15 hours—where fake setups resembling police stations, CBI offices, and courtrooms were shown to create an atmosphere of intimidation, said the police. "The criminals maintained round-the-clock surveillance through video calls, cutting off their communication with the outside world," the DSP said. The elderly couple, overwhelmed by fear and unable to verify the claims, complied with the criminals' instructions without informing anyone else. The police have begun a probe into the case and have received three phone numbers used for the WhatsApp video calls. "We are analysing the call details and tracing the origin of the video setups," he said.
