Manipur crackdown: Over 200 weapons, grenade launchers recovered; operations across districts
The raids are part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal arms and restore peace in the region.
The police recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition in search operations as law and order remains stable in the state.
"Acting on specific intelligence regarding the presence of a large cache of arms, ammunition and other warlike materials concealed in various locations, coordinated operations were launched simultaneously at multiple sites in the interior and suspected areas of Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, Chandel, and Churachandpur districts," ADGP Lhari Dorjee Lhatoo said.
Lhatoo added that the operations led to the recovery of a significant quantity of arms, ammunition, explosives, and other war-like materials.
In total, 203 weapons were seized, including 21 INSAS rifles, 11 AK rifles, 26 self-loading rifles (SLRs), 2 sniper rifles, 2 MA assault rifles, 3 carbines, 11 single-barrel bolt action, 9 pistols, 3 M79 grenade launchers, 18 single-shot breech loaded rifle and 17 .303 rifles.

The officer said the forces also recovered 109 rounds of various types of ammunition, 30 IEDs, 10 grenades, nine Pumpi shells, and two lathode grenades.
These operations are part of a broader crackdown launched by the Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, Army and Central Armed Police Forces, the police officer said, quoted by PTI.
"The Manipur Police reiterates its commitment to fostering a peaceful and secure Manipur. The public is urged to cooperate with the police and security forces, and to promptly report any suspicious activity or information related to illegal arms to the nearest police station or the Central Control Room," he said.
Earlier, the police also discovered at least 11 firearms and other war-like stores in the Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts. Additionally, one was arrested in Imphal for possession of an illegal handgun.
"Security forces continue to conduct search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas across districts," the police said in a post on X, earlier in the day.
Manipur has been under President's Rule after ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities since May 2023 left at least 260 people dead. The clashes also displaced thousands, many of whom are still living in relief camps.

The fraudsters sent him forged documents purportedly from the Supreme Court, Reserve Bank of India, Enforcement Directorate, and Mumbai Police, all naming him as an accused. They also conducted video calls through WhatsApp, displaying fake police IDs and impersonating senior officers. Frightened over the threats against his family, Barat transferred the amount on Aug 12 to an account of a nationalised bank. The account belongs to a company registered as Om Namah Shivya Fishers at Versova, Mumbai. The fraudsters then instructed him to arrange additional funds by taking a gold loan. The man visited the Teghoria branch of a nationalised bank on Aug 13. The frauds also pressed him to borrow from a private lender. but the delay in appraisal led the fraudsters to press him to approach a private lender. At this point, his daughter—who was in Manali—stepped in. Cops said the fraudsters had access to his personal documents. "We are coordinating with cybercrime units and the concerned bank to trace the beneficiaries and block further fraudulent transactions," the officer added. Kochi: Putting internet users in the city at high risk, cybercriminals are using new tricks to spread APK files and hidden links through messaging apps. This revelation comes after city police busted a major racket that used fake m-Parivahan apps to commit fraud. Investigators said they recovered several similar applications from those arrested, indicating they were conducting multiple such scams. The cyber wing of city police was the first to make an arrest in the m-Parivahan fraud, despite hundreds of complaints being registered in various states where APK files disguised as the official app were being circulated through messaging platforms like WhatsApp. Phones of those who installed the apps were hacked, leading to severe monetary loss. "When we arrested them, we found an array of such APK files. One of them was for installing an app to engage in sex chats, which could then be used for extortion through honey-trapping. Very few victims would file complaints in such cases fearing shame. Another APK file was for bogus KYC updation," said an officer with the cyber wing. "It is very unlikely that an official body would send you important official communication through WhatsApp. Even if that happens, everything must be cross-checked — either by directly contacting the office concerned or by visiting authentic websites and writing to them for clarity. For example, If you search for a bank like Federal Bank on Google, fake website links might appear. Instead, search for the original Federal Bank URL, confirm its authenticity and then proceed. Man murdered, stuffed in adrum in Khairthal-Tijara dist
1 2 Alwar: In a chilling reminder of the infamous Meerut murder case, body of a married man aged around 35 was found stuffed in a 'blue drum' on the rooftop of his rented accommodation in Kishangarh Bas town of Khairthal-Tijara district, Sunday. The murdered man's wife, the couple's three children and the landlord's son have been missing since Saturday, police said. The gruesome discovery was made by the landlord's wife, Mithlesh, who was alerted by a foul odour emanating from the drum. The body, identified as that of Hansraj, aka Suraj, was covered in salt, allegedly to accelerate decomposition. Hansraj, originally from Khandepur village in Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, had been residing in the rented accommodation at Adarsh Colony for approximately six weeks and was employed at a local brick kiln. The discovery sent shockwaves through the colony, as the case bears a striking resemblance to a previous incident in Meerut, UP, where a similar method was used to conceal the murder of a Merchant Navy officer, allegedly by his wife in Feb this year.
