(Bernama pic) MELAKA: The case of a trainee with disabilities who was allegedly bullied at the Durian Tunggal GiatMara is an old one that has already been resolved, according to state education, higher education and religious affairs committee chairman Rahmad Mariman. He said the incident took place in February but only gained attention recently after going viral on social media. He said the students involved were summoned by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) following an investigation. 'Mara has recorded statements from all parties, and the students involved have since apologised. They are continuing their skills courses and undergoing plant training, and the case is considered closed. 'The trainee who was allegedly bullied did not sustain any injuries,' Rahmad told reporters here today. Mara chairman Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki had said in a Facebook post yesterday that there would be no compromise for anyone involved in bullying of any kind, whether physical or psychological, at any Mara educational institution. 'The Mara management at all levels and within its educational institutions fully understands my stance. The strictest action will be taken if there is evidence of misconduct or criminal bullying,' he said. The media reported that a young man had uploaded a two-minute video featuring a disabled student with learning difficulties who claimed he had been bullied at the Durian Tunggal GiatMara in Melaka. Three killed in Russian attack on Ukraine's Kharkiv; Ukrainian drones injure two near Moscow
LONDON: Overnight missile and bomb strikes by Russia on the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv left three people dead and 22 hurt, while a Ukrainian drone attack in the Moscow region wounded two people, officials from both countries said separately on Saturday. 'Kharkiv is currently experiencing the most powerful attack since the start of the full-scale war,' Mayor Ihor Terekhov said in a post on Telegram earlier on Saturday. Residential buildings, educational and infrastructure facilities were attacked, he said, and photos showed buildings burnt and reduced partially to rubble, as rescuers carried the wounded away for treatment. Kharkiv regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov said there could still be people buried under the rubble after one civilian industrial facility was hit by 40 drones and several bombs. In the Moscow region, two people were injured after a drone attack by Ukraine overnight and on Friday, Governor Andrei Vorobyov said on Telegram, with nine drones shot down. Ukraine's air forces also shot down a Russian Su-35 fighter jet on Saturday morning, its military said without providing further details. Russian forces have not yet commented on the matter while Reuters could not independently verify the report. A Ukrainian drone attack deep inside Russian territory last weekend likely damaged around 10% of Russia's strategic bomber fleet and hit some of the aircraft as they were being prepared for strikes on Ukraine, a senior German military official said in a YouTube podcast set for broadcast later on Saturday.

Klang boat tragedy: Victims may not have been wearing life jackets, say cops
KLANG: All victims involved in the capsized boat incident in the waters off Tanjung Harapan here Friday (June 6) were believed not to be wearing life jackets, says Asst Comm S. Vijaya Rao. The North Klang OCPD said initial investigations also revealed that the boat, which was being test-driven, was operated by its owner at the time. He said the absence of life jackets had made the search and rescue (SAR) operation for the remaining two missing victims among the six people on board more difficult. "Those who engage in activities at sea must wear life jackets, which are very useful during emergencies like this capsized boat incident, in addition to having swimming skills," he said at a press conference at the search site in Tanjung Harapan Saturday (June 7). ACP Vijaya said the location where the boat capsized had been identified, but strong currents may have swept the two missing victims away and caused them to drown. Meanwhile, he said police had recorded statements from three individuals, including one survivor. "The actual cause of the incident has yet to be determined, and the case is being investigated under Section 280 of the Penal Code," he said. In the incident at about 5pm, three individuals including a child died, one survived (Alvin Chang Yan Qin, 17), while a married couple remains missing. The deceased victims were Darren Gan, 3; Cheu Son Hin, 50; and Fong Yong Sen, 29, while those still missing have been identified as Gan Hon Tat, 32, and his wife Careen Man, 29, both from Klang Utama. - Bernama
