Versant Taps ‘NBC Nightly News' EP Meghan Rafferty As Its Vice President Of News Standards
Rafferty will help set and maintain journalism standards for MSNBC and CNBC, as the cable networks prepare to be spun off from Comcast as part of the new company Versant. She will start in the role in September and will report to Brian Carovillano, SVP of standards & editorial partnerships for news.

Rafferty has been executive producer of Nightly News since 2021, and her departure comes following the broadcast's transition from Lester Holt to Tom Llamas as anchor. During her tenure, the newscast won a News and Documentary Emmy for Holt's interview with President Joe Biden, days before he ended his reelection bid, and also a George Polk award for the investigative series 'Dealing the Dead' and a Murrow award for best newscast in 2022. She joined Nightly News as senior producer in 2017.
Before Nightly News, Rafferty was with CNN for 10 years, producing Wolf Blitzer's interviews with world leaders. She also launched Christiane Amanpour's CNN program, working as the lead editorial producer. She also has helped produce presidential debates for CNN and NBC News in the 2012, 2016 and 2024 cycles.
With the loss of NBC News as a sister network, MSNBC has been building a news operation, hiring Scott Matthews as SVP of news gathering. MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler said in a memo to employees this week that the network has added more than a dozen journalists with more to be announced. The network is recruiting for nearly 50 positions in newsgathering, digital, audio and specials.

‘Yellowstone' actor Neal McDonough walks back comment that Hollywood ‘turned' on him for refusing to kiss on-screen
Neal McDonough wants to stick with his band of brothers in Hollywood. In fact, the actor, 59, is taking back his previous remarks that the industry turned on him for refusing to kiss his co-stars. 'We want to say thank you, Hollywood,' McDonough's wife, Ruvé Robertson, said during a joint interview with TMZ on Thursday. 'I don't like how people are saying that Hollywood turned its back on Neal. No, it didn't. We don't want to say Hollywood turned. Guided us to where we are is what Hollywood did, and we want to say, 'Thank you, Hollywood.'' McDonough echoed his wife of 22 years' sentiments, telling the outlet, 'Everyone talks about that stuff that happened all those years ago.' 'If it weren't for that, we wouldn't be here,' the 'Yellowstone' alum explained. 'If they were to see Dad kissing another woman, it would hurt them,' Robertson admitted. 'When Neal swears on film, which he rarely does, we would tell our kids when they were younger, 'Oh, no, that's a dub, that's a voiceover. Dad did not say S—T,' because we don't swear.' Everything that's happened has brought us closer to where we are now.' Earlier in the week, McDonough had appeared on the 'Nothing Left Unsaid' podcast, where he shared his experience since breaking into the business in 2001. 'I always had in my contracts that I wouldn't kiss another woman on screen,' he revealed to hosts Tim Green and Troy Green. 'My wife didn't have any problem with it. It was me, really, who had a problem. I was like, 'Yeah, I don't want to put you through it. When I wouldn't do it, and they couldn't understand it, Hollywood just completely turned on me,' said McDonough. 'They wouldn't let me be part of the show anymore. And for two years, I couldn't get a job, and I lost everything you could possibly imagine. Not just houses and material things, but your swagger, your cool, who you are, your identity, everything.' And I was in a big, ugly tailspin for a couple of years.' After the incident, McDonough – whose acting credits also include 'Band of Brothers,' 'Arrow,' 'Justified,' and 'Tulsa King' – started drinking more. 'I never drank during the set. I never drank during work because I love my craft and I take it with the utmost seriousness in everything I do,' he shared. 'But after work or days off or anything, I still feel like I wasn't a man. Oh, people are calling me. Oh, I am successful. Oh, I do like myself again. Ok, I am God's child, and I have a job to do. Stop wallowing in self-pity. Dust yourself off and go hit it hard.'' DMI Back in 2019, however, he did tell Closer Weekly that in 2010, he lost his role on the ABC drama 'Scoundrels' because of his no-sex-scene rule. 'It was a horrible situation for me,' confessed McDonough. 'After that, I couldn't get a job because everybody thought I was this religious zealot. I am very religious. I put God and family first, and me second. That's what I live by. It was hard for a few years.' Most Americans Were Never Interested in Meghan Markle Podcasting

Meghan Markle's struggle to break through with her business podcast Confessions of a Female Founder may in part be explained by polling conducted at the time she first signed with Spotify. The Duchess of Sussex has now chalked up two podcasts: Archetypes, about sexist slurs, and Confessions of a Female Founder, which featured interviews about prominent women who run companies. The first made waves when she dished about the royal family in the early episodes but sunk in the charts in later shows when she steered clear of the palace soap opera. That may in reality be no surprise as polling as far back as 2020 suggests Americans may simply never have been particularly interested in Prince Harry and Meghan podcasting. Why It Matters Meghan launched a flurry of new projects in 2025 but had a rough ride among critics for both her Netflix cooking show and Confessions, which were both tied to her own business As Ever, which launched in April. Now the first phase of those ventures is over, she will have a chance to take stock and consider what is working well and what could do with a revamp. What to Know Polling agency YouGov asked 5,400 U.S. adults in December 2020 how much interest they would have in listening to Harry and Meghan's podcasts. Just 8 percent said they were "very interested" while 53 percent said they were "not at all interested." And 16 percent were "not very interested" while 15 percent were "somewhat interested." This adds up to a total of 69 percent falling on the side of disinterest compared to 23 percent who expressed interest. At the time, they had just signed their Spotify deal but no specific shows had been publicly revealed and in the end it would be a year-and-a-half before Archetypes dropped. It was, though, also a time when they had not been giving interviews and therefore media appetite to hear what they had to say was far higher than now. The Oprah Winfrey interview, for example, was still months away and was not even known about in December 2020. In that respect, Harry and Meghan's reputations in America were still mostly uncontroversial bar a run-in with Donald Trump after they commented on the presidential election he lost to Joe Biden. Some might, therefore, by tempted to conclude that Meghan should not take the lukewarm response to her podcast to heart and simply focus on other more successful projects. What Happens Next Meghan's As Ever online shop has sold out all three of its product runs in mere minutes but more produce is expected to drop this summer, specifically a sparkling wine. Season 2 of her Netflix show With Love, Meghan is also due out in the fall, while the Netflix deal itself is due to run out in September. As yet, a new deal has not been signed and The Sun and People both reported Netflix does not intend to renew it. Time will tell whether some continuation of the partnership gets renegotiated or not.
