Countries enthusiastic about partnering with India, says all-party delegation member in US
Investing in India is increasingly viewed as an investment in "democracy", "responsible civilian leadership", and global progress,

, who is part of an all-party delegation visiting the US, has said.
Speaking to PTI, Surya highlighted the enthusiastic response from the four countries visited by the multiple-party parliamentary delegation led by Congress MP
Shashi Tharoor

The group arrived in the US on Tuesday after a visit to Brazil.
"Every single country was enthusiastic about what they can offer to India and what India can offer to them," he said, underlining that after addressing the agenda of
Operation Sindoor
, the delegation engaged in conversations focusing on potential partnerships in sectors like manufacturing and technology.
"People know that
investment in India
is investing in democracy and investment in India is investment in reponsilble civilian leadership," he said, adding that it means global progress as well.

On the other hand, he said these countries can only talk about terrorism with Pakistan.
The delegation travelled to Guyana, Panama, Colombia and Brazil before arriving in Washington for the last leg of its tour.
"Many countries which are interested in manufacturing, which are interested in technology, they want to partner with India," said Surya.
He noted that every terrorist attack in the last 20-30 years that has rocked the world has had investigations directly or indirectly leading to Pakistan.
Speaking to PTI, another delegation member and Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora said that "for American investments to continue to perform in India, India needs peace. India needs strong borders. India needs security."
"We want to live in peace. We would prefer it if we have a stable neighbour. Nobody wants an unstable lunatic living next to you," he said
The multi-party group will be engaging with members of the US Congress, American think tanks and media professionals during its visit.
The delegation also comprises Sarfaraz Ahmad (JMM), Ganti Harish Madhur Balayogi (TDP), Shashank Mani Tripathi (BJP), Bhubaneswar Kalita (BJP), and India's former Ambassador to the US Taranjit Sandhu.
It is one of the seven multi-party delegations India had tasked to visit 33 global capitals to reach out to the international community to emphasise Pakistan's links to terrorism.
Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, with India carrying out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in the early hours of May 7.
Pakistan attempted to attack Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10. The Indian side responded strongly to the Pakistani actions.
The on-ground hostilities ended with an understanding of stopping the military actions following talks between the directors general of military operations of both sides on May 10.

Trump travel ban: Will Iran travel for 2026 FIFA World Cup?
USA, Canada, and Mexico are all set to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup together. However, President Donald Trump's latest travel ban has posed questions about whether certain qualified countries will now be allowed to travel to the US and take part. Starting Monday (June 9), citizens of 12 countries will no longer be allowed to get a US visa, according to a recent decision by Trump. Citizens of Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen have been banned by Trump and tighter restrictions have been applied to seven other nations (Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela). Trump explained his move by stating in a video, 'The recent terror attack in Boulder, Colorado, has underscored the extreme dangers posed to our country, by the entry of foreign nationals who are not properly vetted, as well as those who come here as temporary visitors and overstay their visas. We don't want them.' As of now, Iran is the only country from the list to have already qualified to compete in the FIFA World Cup next year. Cuba, Sudan, and Haiti are currently in contention to contest. Venezuela is five points off the threshold for automatic qualification but a playoff might just cut the deal. Sierra Leone can still be involved through multiple playoff games while Burundi, Equatorial Guinea, and Libya have very slim chances. Under the current policy, sports teams of qualifying countries should still be able to contest since such a provision have been provided for 'any athlete or member of an athletic team, including coaches, persons performing a necessary support role, and immediate relatives, traveling for the World Cup, Olympics, or other major sporting event as determined by the secretary of state.' However, this exception will only continue as long as there is no change to the current ban policy adopted by the US. Iranian fans hoping to catch their national team in the spotlight won't be so lucky however since the policy provides no such exceptions for fans of sporting teams. Getting an American visa had already been tough for Iranians even before the ban was implemented due to tougher vetting procedures. However, considering how those indulging in international travel for sporting events are usually from a higher wealth bracket, such individuals could still try to circumvent the process by using different passport options. The move has stirred a debate about the intersection of politics with global sport. Back in 2017, FIFA President Gianni Infantino had said, "Any team, including the supporters and officials of that team, who qualify for a World Cup need to have access to the country, otherwise there is no World Cup." Infantino has since developed close ties with Trump and has re-emphasized that sporting teams of all countries will face no barriers in coming to the US for participation next year. The event is expected to raise a majority of the soccer body's revenue in the 2023-2026 period. Questions have also been raised about the US' legitimacy to hold the upcoming 2028 Olympic Games with such strict travel policies against certain participating countries.

With Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) and the launch of Vande Bharat trains to Kashmir valley, the Prime Minister has fulfilled the resolve of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Syama Prasad Mukherjee, who had dreamt of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat,' the LG said. He also inaugurated two flyover projects at Sangrama Junction on National Highway-1 in Srinagar and at Bemina Junction on National Highway-44. These projects will ease traffic congestion and enhance traffic flow for the commuters. The PM also laid the foundation stone of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence in Katra worth over ₹350 crore. It will be the first medical college in Reasi district contributing substantially to the healthcare infrastructure in the region.

Ex-Pak PM Imran Khan's party threatens to launch full-scale movement for his release
A senior leader of incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan has threatened to launch a full-scale movement for his release after Eid Al-Adha if he is not freed before the festival. Ali Amin Gandapur, Chief Minister of the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the prominent leader of Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, was speaking with media after meeting the PTI supremo at the Adiala Jail near Rawalpindi on Thursday. Khan, 72, has been in jail since August 2023 in multiple cases. His party had organised rallies in the past too demanding his release. 'If we don't see Imran Khan being released before Eid Al-Adha, we reserve the right to protest. We are moving towards a movement by bringing the people on the street against Khan's unjustified and unfair detention in fake cases,' Gandapur said. 'The nation must awaken and now it is time to release him from jail. We will no longer tolerate slavery. When we protested from time to time,' he said in response to a question. Gandapur stated that the PTI will make every possible effort and 'we will act swiftly,' as the country is being destroyed by the decisions of those 'who have seized power.' Gandapur termed Khan's continued imprisonment as 'a grave injustice,' and expressed frustration over the government's refusal to allow free dialogue with their incarcerated party leader. He also pointed out how the judiciary has lost its independence, particularly after the 26th constitutional amendment. 'There's no hope left from the judiciary. If the courts were truly independent, we would be seeing free and fair decisions.' Gandapur also condemned the prolonged detention of Khan's wife Bushra Bibi, who he claimed, has been kept under house arrest for 14 months 'without justification.'
