As reported by Pinkvilla, the Jailer actor alone is being paid Rs 150 crore, making him one of the highest-paid actors in India. 'Rajinikanth has bagged an upfront salary of Rs 150 crore for Coolie, which is amongst the highest of all time for an actor. Lokesh Kanagaraj, on the other hand, got a pay cheque of Rs 50 crore for Coolie, which is again a record for a director," a source told the news portal.

The film keeps going back and forth between the glamour of the musical and the true lives of the men, which are grim beyond repair. Luis gains freedom like in the original story and joins the revolution started by Valentin and is seen getting in trouble, which will likely be the end for him just like in the novel. Helmed by Academy Award winner Bill Cordon, the cast of the film also includes Josefina Scaglione and Tony Dovolani.
