Huge £6m Omaze house at centre of planning row after swimming pool, summer house & tennis court added WITHOUT permission
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A HUGE £6 million mansion won in an Omaze competition is at the heart of a bitter planning row. The massive property has fallen foul of important laws, since its swimming pool, summer house and tennis court were added without permission. Designed in the style of the mansions found in The Hamptons area of Long Island, the home was gifted to a prize winner in March. However, the house - known as Larkwood- is now embroiled in controversy after a member of the public alerted the council to unplanned renovations at the property. The neighbour had claimed that the home looked larger than what had been previously approved. Allegedly, an additional swimming pool, summer house and tennis court were added to the property without approval. An extension to the east wing of the house, garden landscaping and a four-bay garage were also added despite not being in the planning documents. Now, Omaze has been forced to submit new applications to North Norfolk District Council to address the changes. Reportedly, the company is hoping that the additions to the home can remain since it submitted retrospective plans for the changes. Omaze acquired the house to be used in the prize draw for Comic Relief. The competition was endorsed by a slew of celebrities including Lenny Henry, Jamie Oliver, Davina McCall and Rylan Clark. You could win a £4 million dream home in Cheshire's Golden Triangle The winner of the competition, Vicky Curtis-Cresswell, has yet to receive the keys as the controversy continues. Permission was granted for a property on the site to be demolished so that a three-bedroom home could be built in 2020. Later, approval for the house to be extended was given - with window sizes and the roof veranda being changed. Previously Omaze has insisted that it had done 'due diligence' and that the home is legal. Both Omaze and North Norfolk District Council have been approached for comment by The Sun. The news comes after an 81-year-old scooped the keys to a mansion in Perthshire, after paying just £25 to enter the competition. Now the owner of a £4 million Scottish home, Patricia Moule said that she feels 'absolutely overwhelmed'. Speaking about her incredible win, she said: "I made myself a nice gin and tonic to celebrate, but a stiff Scotch would have probably been more appropriate. "Things like this just don't happen to people like me. I never win anything. "The best thing I've ever won before this was a doll when I was nine years old. "This definitely tops that and was worth waiting 70 years for." She said that the home is 'breathtaking' and looks like 'something from a film'. 6 The home has lavish furnishings Credit: Omaze 6 It was designed to look like a home in the Hamptons Credit: Omaze

AC/DC set to play first Scottish gig in ten years as thousands descend on Edinburgh
Tens of thousands of AC/DC fans are set to descend on Edinburgh as the band return to Scotland for the first time in a decade. The rock giants will take to the stage at Murrayfield Stadium on Thursday evening as the only UK performance on their ongoing Power Up tour. Originally from Australia, the band has a strong Scottish fanbase thanks to Forfar-born member Bon Scott and brothers Angus and Malcolm Young, hailing from Glasgow. Scott spent his early years in Kirrie before his family emigrated to Australia. He died in February 1980 and was replaced as AC/DC frontman by Brian Johnson. Angus and Brian will be joined by rhythm guitarist (and Angus's nephew) Stevie Young, drummer Matt Laug and bassist Chris Chaney. Stevie initially joined the fold to fill in for Malcolm when he was diagnosed with dementia. Following his death in 2017, Stevie remained with the band. The tour comes in support of their latest album by the same name, released in 2020. As well as the latest release, the band will be playing their iconic rock songs including Back In Black, Hells Bells, Thunderstruck and Let There Be Rock. Fans will be able to head into Murrayfield from 5pm. Support will come from The Pretty Reckless – an American rock band from New York City fronted by Taylor Momsen. View this post on Instagram A post shared by AC/DC (@acdc) The band are reportedly due on stage around 8.15pm with the show wrapping up by 10.45pm. Gigs in Scotland announced that a limited number of tickets were released on Wednesday ahead of the show, so those without could still be in with a chance. Michelle McManus records new hymn for SCIAF anniversary
The Glasgow pop icon, who once sang for Pope Benedict, joined SCIAF staff to record a brand new hymn, titled Because. The hymn was written especially for SCIAF's anniversary by Scottish hymn-writer and Church of Scotland minister John Bell, best known for Will You Come and Follow Me? Michelle said: 'SCIAF was founded in Rutherglen in 1965 by a small group of Catholics who were united in their goal to reach out in love to the world's poorest people. 'And today, 60 years on, they're still doing that vital work, helping people to transform their lives. 'I was delighted to be asked to record Because with them. 'I grew up with SCIAF – at school, in church and at home – and fondly remember the WEE BOX every Lent. 'It's a charity with humble roots, but an incredible reach. 'Church is where I started singing, so being asked to serve as lead vocalist on Because for this special anniversary just felt right.' Michelle said: 'What's also so special about SCIAF is that while it's rooted in the Catholic Church, it helps people around the world, of all faiths and none. 'No questions asked. 'It's based on need, not race, religion or beliefs. 'Having such a well-respected writer as John on board makes this even more special.' 'The hymn is based on the teachings of the late Pope Francis, who was devoted to caring for our planet. 'I can't tell you how delighted and excited we are to have Michelle on board to record our special 60th hymn. 'One minute she's duetting with Robbie Williams, next she's joining us in the cathedral to make this historic recording. 'It's an important moment in our history, so this really is a memorable day for all involved.'
